GTA VI on Switch 2 Rumor Thread

Ehhh. I'm in no rush. Even if it launched on the SW2, I'd likely still wait to get it. I'm just not hyped for this game like I used to be. I remember doing the midnight launch to get GTA4. Now, I'm not even sure I'll buy it in it launch window. Maybe wait for a few patches.

If there is an intend, Take2 will wait until the SW2 install base is big enough.

Fake news, GTAV & RDR2 hasn't even come to the system yet.

I think Take2 is in a weird spot where GTAV is tied to GTA Online and they want this brand perception, that's why we never got GTAV on OG Switch, it could run the base game like PS3/360 did but it can't handle the online experience.
And I guess if they bring GTA to Switch 2, then it will be GTAVI to not muddy the watters.
Just my 2 cents.

lets not compare a corridor tps story driven game with a full open world with lots of npc, cars, planes, boats, dynamic weather, day and night cycle, physics, fast paced action, traffic simulation and top notch tech, at least LordOcidax LordOcidax examples made sense.
Let's not compare Fromsoft with Rockstar. As fine as the artists at Fromsoft are, their technical ability is miles behind what Rockstar were able to achieve in the past.

Would be funny if the 'omg downgrade' screenshots of the past few days were from the Switch2 version of the game :messenger_grinning_sweat:

But in all seriousness, I'd buy GTA VI for Switch 2 in a heartbeat if it ever came to the platform, same as Crimson Desert.
The latter one will even implement cross save, I somehow doubt we'd get that with a Rockstar title.

Let's hope that's not the case, I only say that because they straight up killed GTA Online on Steam deck with a BS reason. My theory is to sell the full package on Switch 2 as some form of deal done under the table with Nintendo.

Consider the CPU situation, it will cut a lot, basically a different game (dlss can reduce GPU pressure, but CPU-bounded situation will still be CPU-bounded)
  • how the in game event generated need to ben changed,
  • the lighting solution need rewrite in RAGE engine
  • the world logic (i.e. simulation complexity) reduce: how NPC react, how ploice system runs in the game
  • cut lot of objects in the game
  • cut special effect
  • frame rate cut to 10~15 fps (current gen console 30fps, pro may feature a 40 fps mode for 120hz display)
  • reduce lod a lot
  • ...
People use some game as example, do you think these game has the same complex open world design.

You'd better expect RDR2 (original PS4) and GTAV (from PS3->PS5), or a Cloud version of GTA6 in the future.

GTA6 is basically GTA5 or RDR2 but prettier… Theres nothing revolutionary like some people think. It's going to be the same as Cyberpunk or AC Shadows on PS5 vs SW2… Less NPCs, less cars on SW2 and done.

I'm gonna repeat what I said a dozen times: they didn't port GTA 5 on switch, which was basically a ps360 title so that port wouldn't have been that hard to make. It would have been easy money for them but they didn't do it. So why would they port the next one since we know that Switch 2, while honestly powered for 2025 10w portable, will struggle a lot to have this game running on it?

Gta6 wouldnt look like gta6 anymore if they ported it to switch2, ofc given extraordinary sales continue port becomes more and more likely (i say if switch reaches 50m before next gen aka holidays 2027) it will be worth it for rockstart to do it.
But game gonna have nasty cuts across the board and still wont hold even stable 30, switch cpu is almost 2x weaker from series s cpu and who knows how artrocious even series s version gonna be...

GTA6 is running on Series S already… Have you seen Series S vs Switch 2 comparisons? Especially for open world games…. Also, the Switch 2 is going to have a bigger install base than the Xbox Series when the Switch 2 version comes out. Is simple logic and a bit of 🔮.

So do you think the open world compelxity of GTA6 is same with GTA5 or RDR2 (RDR2 is lack of density, it mostly some towns). Also you example of games, are the game world logic complex as GTA6 or even GTAV

  • The State of Leonida: The map is described as the largest and most ambitious map Rockstar has ever made. It will feature Vice City alongside beaches, swamps, and smaller towns.
  • Living NPCs: Non-player characters are powered by advanced AI, giving them their own daily routines and organic random events.
  • Dynamic Weather: Storms and weather conditions will impact world physics, such as vehicle traction. [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • In-Game Social Media: The in-game phone allows players to watch viral videos, follow local influencers, and discover hidden side quests through the network. [1, 2]
  • Advanced Graphics: The game will feature ray-traced global illumination and precise reflections on water and cars.

If you really want play GTA on switch 2, the best expectation is GTAV (game logic is building according to the PS3 cpu horsepower), your reasoning of less NPC, less cars may not enough, because GTA6 unlike the games you posed, it totally base on current gen (i.e. all game logics need a least a 8 core zen2 CPU) and it does not consider the wide sepcs of low-end PC in the initial development (low-end PC may have better CPU)

Lol, since GTA3, all the GTA games are basically the same thing but prettier and bigger… Same from RDR (GTA4 had amazing physics) Like i said, some of you are expecting a revolution and is not going to happen. Cyberpunk is already on SW2… Still, going to tag some people here when the official announcement happens.

It'll be real funny if GTA VI comes to switch with a GKC and be the only version with resale value lol.

I think it comes with the PC release just due to the nvidia architecture and the need for a PC version to be scalable anyways which does a lot of the work for a S2 port.

Just for the meltdowns 😂

It doesn't have to just be GTA 5 world complexity but also there's a huge gap between PS3 and a Switch 2.
Without mentioning that GTA 4 was even more complex physics wise than GTA 5.

That's asset storage in the end. Bigger map is not gonna stress the streaming more than say GTA 5 because you're not gonna go Mach 10 in a car suddenly. Switch 2 I/O is also modern.

  • Living NPCs: Non-player characters are powered by advanced AI, giving them their own daily routines and organic random events.

I feel like its the same description as RDR 2?

  • Dynamic Weather: Storms and weather conditions will impact world physics, such as vehicle traction. [1, 2, 3, 4]

GTA 4's Euphoria physics engine had that. I'm sure its iterated upon but really these descriptions are so vague that its a nothingburger.

  • In-Game Social Media: The in-game phone allows players to watch viral videos, follow local influencers, and discover hidden side quests through the network. [1, 2]

A game mechanic. I don't understand how that would be a showstopper. Surely the cellphone from GTA 5 on PS3 was not the bottleneck.

  • Advanced Graphics: The game will feature ray-traced global illumination and precise reflections on water and cars.

Right, that's probably gonna be the tough part, but not CPU related. Reflections will likely fallback on SSR for a Switch 2 port, hell even Series S I'm not sure it'll be fully fledged out RT.

I sure hope your explanation for why its current gen is not the above bullet list?

The only thing I see Switch 2 struggle here is DENSITY, and we see consoles have already cut back from the reveal trailer. RT is also a major hurdle. The hair would also be cut back more than likely.

You don't see how putting a game on the best selling console is going to recoup the costs?

How much do you think it'll cost to port the game? Really break it down for me.
Most people don't buy Nintendo consoles to play downgraded 3rd party ports. A massive Nintendo console install base sounds great on paper but the attach rate for heavy 3rd party AAA games is generally poor. Sales data and publisher reports have reflected that for years. I'm not coming up with something new here guys.

Most people aren't multi-console owners, contrary to GAF belief.

they will buy it for the much better Nintendo made games and buy the downgraded ports because they are 95% the exact same game.

If they really spent 2 billion on this, they're going to want it on as many systems as possible, and Nintendo's stealing Xbox's lunch money.

Have you seen the sales split between PS5, Switch 2 and Xbox Series in UK?

Here's a small sample…
