Hrm, fair enough. To be honest, it's been ages since I've played either so I can't remember how they played. 3 was a huge time sink though... man...

Anybody?nincompoop said:I have all of those M&M games (except Heroes Chronicles) on disc but I've had trouble getting some of them to run in Vista in the past. Does gog update the games in any way to ensure their compatibility?

Err no, aside from the obvious difference that HOMM is entirely turn-based, it also includes a huge strategy component that is missing from King's Bounty. In HOMM you have to acquire and manage resources other than gold, develop your starting castle, capture castles, towns, mines etc. to expand your territory, and hire multiple heroes and split your armies amongst them so as to keep your ever-expanding territory defended from enemy attacks. While in King's Bounty you're pretty much just one guy running back and forth solving quests for people while amassing an army. The battle systems are mostly identical, though.PantherAttacks said:Very similar. Gameplay is pretty much identical? Art, etc. is different obv
MeBecomingI said:Compatibility Mode in Win 7 should work around the issue, should it not? I played the old disc based version in Compatibility Mode and it worked... unless there is something else at work in the software.
EDIT: Scratch that, it just works. I just bought it and I am using Windows 7 x64 and it just runs fine. I didn't even have to use Compatibility Mode... sure, it makes your taskbar disappear, but that is barely a problem when you get to play Rollercoaster Tycoon! The taskbar comes back after you close the program.
Yeah, King's Bounty is the RPG, HoMM the strategy game. That's basically how it works. I like HoMM more, because it's got more depth and because I love strategy games...nincompoop said:Err no, aside from the obvious difference that HOMM is entirely turn-based, it also includes a huge strategy component that is missing from King's Bounty. Minsc said:RCT runs totally fine for me, played it for a few hours. Taskbar doesn't even disappear (not even briefly)! Plays windowed or fullscreen equally well, I just run it windowed now, you can easily drag the window out to be whatever size you want to, which is nice.
MeBecomingI said:Regardless though, the great news is that you can play RCT just fine on Windows 7 x64! Hurray for all us x64 users!

Buy Grand Inquisitor people. It's a masterpiece!
Here's a tidbit from wikipedia.mclem said:
1 + 1 =The Windows version of the game was intended for simultaneous release with the PlayStation version, targeting the 1999 Christmas season. However, while the PlayStation team had been working on their version for several years, the Windows team was given only 7 months to generate a full-length game's worth of assets and retrofit an existing first-person shooter engine to handle third-person combat.

I don't remember specifics, but for some reason my mind associates that name with a steaming pile. I think I read bad things about it back when it came out.mclem said:

How does it compare quality wise to Grand Inquisitor? I know it's darker, but are the puzzles and story good?
mclem said:Nemesis really doesn't feel very Zorky, but once you get past that, it's a rather good Myst-esque adventure. I'd recommend it.
A review from Andrew Plotkin (who himself is a somewhat notable amateur adventure designer): http://eblong.com/zarf/gamerev/zorknem.html
Some thematic spoilers in that, but not much in the way of specifics.
Minsc said:Hopefully one day GOG or someone gets Sim Golf too, I remember just playing the demo or a bit of the game when it came out, and seeing the screens from the thread a little ago reminded me how unique a sim it was.
