I would add Alpha Centauri... it is so sad (u_u)

I'm going to say 2k only because that would be the most disappointing, and these announcements are always disappointing no matter how big they say they are. But of course I'm holding out hope for either EA or LA.

MS has already been eliminated.

It's Take 2, EA, or LA.

This article came up in the discussion @ GOG for a case of why EA (Wing Commander) will be on GOG.

I should add, there, Ultima Aiera (mentioned in all the blabber) is the ultima fansite guy I indicated in my earlier pinch of salt post.

Edit: Ah, it goes on to cite the 'coyness and winks' I mentioned later :-)

Origin made some great games.

That being said, if the announcement was that it was EA releasing specifically Origin's games on GOG, I would be a little disappointed. I'd definitely re-buy both Ultima Underworld games, probably a few Wing Commander games, and probably a few Ultima OG games, probably both Crusader games... but System Shock without SS2 would be a tragedy, and EA without Bullfrog and Maxis would be equally so.

I would so replay System Shock 1, Bioforge and Wing Commander 3. Those 3 games were my first PC games, all in one awesome package box.

Are there *any* Looking Glass titles currently on any download service?

Edit: Pinch-of-salt tweeter has explicitly named EA, now. Do remember that his source is "a friend who heard from a friend", mind.

The closest thing would be Thief: Deadly Shadows which was made by quite a few members of Looking Glass when they moved on to Ion Storm.

So I guess to answer your question, no.

So worst case scenario we get Take2... what games would that bring? I'm trying to remember anything they had that was memorable and drawing a blank. They bought out Gathering of Developers right? Most of the GOD stuff that was good is already on GOG so I really don't know.

EDIT: Just looked through Mobygames list of Take 2 published stuff and that is one sad ass library, let's hope it's not them.

Some or all of this, and some or all of this might already be on GOG:
GTA franchise
Manhunt 1
Freedom Force 1/2
All the post-acquisition Firaxis stuff (Possibly Pirates! although Atari might still have the rights, Civ 4, Colonization)
Imperialism
Railroad Tycoon
Hidden & Dangerous
Max Payne 1/2
Prey
Airport Tycoon
Mafia I
Vietcong series
PB Winterbottom
Possibly the Irrational SWAT games, maybe not
Possibly Empire Earth, maybe not
Bungie's Oni

Take 2's holdings are a bit weird. They acquired a meaty number of PC developers, but generally those developers made games for other publishers before the acquisitions, and I wouldn't be able to tell which rights they have and which they don't.

Nocturne (and possibly the Blair Witch games), Oni, and Rune are the only three games that were published by GOD that would probably be of any interest, and that assumes that the original devs don't hold all the rights to the games (which I think was a big part of GOD).

T2 isn't nearly as "pure" as LA or EA in rights-holding, so what they'd actually bring to GoG is really questionable.

Not much, especially when you remove everything that is already available on Steam and GOG.

I'm still thinking it's gonna be EA, just because they don't really have any kind of DD outlet for their old catalog, at least that I know of. Lucas Arts on the other hand has quite a few titles already available as well as the remakes of MI 1+2, plus they're managed so bad, it's just hard for me to believe that they would do anything smart, not unlike SEGA in that regard.

I'd also like to point out that the EA lists posted mostly represent their 90s output/holdings. EA has a lot of games going back to the early 80s, all the way back when they sold games on 5.25 floppies in cases that looked like vinyl record cases. They released what would basically be the precursor to the Total War games (Centurion), they published Boulder Dash, Chuck Yeager flight sims, 7 Cities of Gold, M.U.L.E., Skate or Die, and Wasteland.

GOG hasn't really dipped much into pre-VGA era games in general.

And I can't say I blame them. ;) Trying to play, for example, Life & Death in CGA is just vomit-inducing. L&D2's VGA by comparison holds up well even today.

Who has rights to thief 1 and 2?

OK: EA releases Origin games
Good: LucasArts
Better: EA releases their whole back catalogue.
Best: Both release their whole back catalogue.

All I want from EA is to give me some way on out-of-the-box Win7 compatible download of Dungeon Keeper 1 + 2... PLEASE.
They both already are. DK1 with DOSBox and DK2 runs fine on W7 out of the box.

Origin-only, IMO, would be better than LucasArts unless getting LA actually means all their back catalog and not just what's on Steam. Plus the implications for future sub-catalogs like Bullfrog or Westwood.

It's gonna be a huge letdown if it's not EA. While there are some real gems missing on digital stores from LA, I want a lot of EA's back catalog badly.

I'm cool either way, but EA is definitely the stronger of the two.

Then again... TIE FIGHTER.

XWing vs Tie Fighter says no.

Come on EA. Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 + System Shock 2. I'm rubbing Shuichi for ya!

I'm kind of pissed they are toying with us and the two most obvious/in demand choices >_>

I'm about equally pumped for either one! Guess I'll need to buy a joystick whichever one it is. Man, I miss space sims!

Narag said:
Either way I think I should be pricing sticks for space sims.

Damn, that's a good point. Not used a flightstick in years. I think every good analogue stick I still have uses a joystick port, and I don't have one of those any more.

EA has GOT to know they're sitting on a goldmine, don't they? I mean, just the fact that the two System Shock games have been at the top of the GOG wishlist forever now should be some sort of indication, right? For how relatively under-the-radar it is, the System Shock series is quite popular. I am absolutely convinced both games would do big numbers on GOG, especially with word-of-mouth. This goes for a couple of EA's other series.

It seems silly to me that EA is so reluctant to budge on this.

That is pretty much a given if it is LA. A release of games already available is not worth of the title "biggest announcement ever."
