Forza Horizon 2: Resolution (1080p), Framerate (30fps), Music, & More Detailed - IGNF

Key words: "up to 200km". It'd be downright stupid to model out 200km worth of terrain when you never see it because there's a mountain in the way that no point on the track can ever see past.
I guess you can't always believe what the developer of a game says then. That would go for devs of all games, right??

You honestly believe that they modeled out 200km worth of terrain and that when you will be playing the game all those 200km are being rendered constantly just so you can have a pretty vista to look at?

It does. I'm sure we all remember Bungie on Halo 3's draw distance. Make a model of something, scale it to be hilariously large and place it very far away (not exactly a difficult task for a 3d engine). Boom... you can now claim X hundred miles of draw distance.

When is Horizon 2 coming out? It's being revealed fully at e3 but a mate said it was due this fall?
He can't be right surely?

He's not wrong. It's due out this Fall. Microsoft has a long history of debuting games at E3 and then releasing them later in the year.

#11 - Each location has a draw distance of up to 200km to the horizon and even simulates the curvature of the earth in both skies and terrain. Distant landscapes are built out and fully modelled, instead of ‘painted on’, to ensure that they support the dynamic, volumetric nature of the skies and lighting.
Are you having trouble understanding the bolded part??
This is probably the reason for the delay. They had to detail all that shit we wont see.

Damn this game looks so swank. I'm surprised anyone is disappointed at the teaser in terms of how much we saw - E3 is like, what, five seconds away now? We're gonna see much more I'd wager :p

Man I am so pumped for the full trailer now. That weather sound at the end, hollyshit.

It really does look like it will be great from the brief snippet we saw...

My player would be 1/2 Gordon Gekko, 1/2 Tommy Vercetti.
The game must have 1st person gunplay while in the driver seat doing 200mph... also snorting coke off of escort's boobs while wearing a white linen jacket, suspenders, and no shirt.

I motion to change the game's name to "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"

do we really even need the cars...lol :) one day.

Three times the drivable area, which considering how much was closed off in the first game could end up being roughly the same size.

I was honestly hoping for something much larger.

Once the 1000 Club content was added in, I thought the play-area and event density seemed right where I'd want it to be, but you're totally right about drivable area vs game size. People will probably want to keep that in mind.

I'd be interested to know what exactly they mean by "drivable area", because the intuitive answer (total area of all roads + off-road areas in Horizon 1 vs total area of all areas you can drive on in Horizon 2) wouldn't seem to make sense - a road-side field, for example, could easily have dozens of times the "drivable area" of the road it sits next to, by that definition, since roads are generally extremely narrow in comparison to fields, so 3x the drivable area by that measure would make the overall map significantly smaller than the original

So I figure they must mean something else. Maybe total area enclosed by the outermost limits of the area you can drive on?

Looked great, of course im not expecting that lambo to be that detailed ingame, and those trees could look better. IQ is nigh on perfect.
Bring on mondayyyy

I wonder how they will limit the play space this time. The edges of the map in FH1 were basically defined by the mountains and also the road barriers. With the new game being in a different region the terrain could be quite different with less surrounding mountains.

Also FH2 is apparently free roam, go everywhere so it's more difficult / awkward to use barriers as restriction.

It's already confirmed there are coastal roads but I wonder if the entire map is an island this time. That would make it easier to 'contain' the play area.

Are you serious right now? That was a god awful teaser. We didn't even get five seconds of actual footage...

I'm still vexed over how bad the teaser is...

Yea it was pretty pathetically-short. I think they get a pass just because we know more is coming on Monday. But, if they had they released that a few weeks ago, though...

Eh its a teaser. I was hoping for something more but its understandable, they want to rock E3.

Speaking of which..
The game might even be..gasp...PLAYABLE on the showfloor ?

I don't think they should get a pass. This was just poor after how well the Sunset reveal was handled.
wut... SO got a CG trailer and gameplay only months later.

Its a first in-engine teaser, following a E3 annoucement in 3 days and probably gameplay on the showfloor, and walktrough demos on big sites... like every Forza in the past E3's.

edit: If I remember correctly, first Horizon teaser was just a bunch of videos, without any footage of the game.

What pissed me off was the 5 day build up to the teaser. They announced the game on Monday. They could have just put the teaser out then, or the next day. The longer you make people wait the more you build up expectations.

So I got FH1 on GoD. I was going to use the credit I got from the gift card I got from Best Buy today but for some reason it charged my card instead. Oh well. Looking forward to playing the full game.

This is probably the issue, more than anything else. I think the teaser is fine, but the timing was out of order. You don't announce a game with no footage, and then tease some of it after 5 days when everyone knows it's coming the next week. Not that I'm frustrated, but I can see where the frustration is coming from.

Yeah, you're right, they shouldn't get a pass. Maybe that was a poor choice of words by me. It wasn't the best teaser, and I'm not very happy about it. But, I guess my point is I would be a lot more mad, though, if I knew we weren't seeing more in a little over two days. I can wait a little bit longer (even if I don't want to)...

And yea, the SSOD reveal was handled amazingly. This hasn't been as good. I'm guessing they made the decision to save most of this reveal for E3.

IGN teasing the teaser (a teaser for the teaser...oh boy) was a bit much, too. Probably made this a bit harder to deal with and is why most are not happy about it.

I love the box art because Lamborghini have always been known for their off road prowess.

The irony is that Lamborghini (the dude) made tractors and made a lot of money. He owned a few Ferraris and Maseratis. The legend is that after an argument with Enzo Ferrari (the dude), Ferrari told Lamborgini that he didn't know anything about cars as he made tractors. Since then, Lamborgini was founded.

Here is a nice link of the history

This was actually the first vehicle that made me aware of Lambo's off road past. It was the only off road vehicle in their lineup back then. My dad had bought me a book on Lamborghinis since the Countach was my favorite car as a youth. PEACE.

I hope they have a Countach with a front wing as a barn find this time.. That would be awesome

That's on IGN. They made it seem like they had something significant to show and it was just this. Gotta get page hits somehow I guess.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
bout what i expected from the tease, but that last shot with the landsscape was nice. cant wait till monday to see more.

buuuut, i must say that what little shown seemed a bit disappointing. could be the time of day and/or weather, but lighting looked really flat. actually, it looked like forza horizon 1 turned up a few notches. hardly the breakthrough in atmospheric rendering and lighting discussed in the previews. i hate to bring up comparisons, but the atmosphere and lighting in drive club looks quite natural, where this looks much less real and solid. a bit like a painting. maybe thats what they are going for?

not passing judgment yet. we'll have more to see soon enough anyway.

They showed very little, but they definitely showed enough to properly set the stage.

That showcase lambo, looking great, kicking up mud, driving through a grassy area that'd probably have been walled off in the first Horizon, in a picturesque European locale with those classic Horizon draw distances, all while storm clouds gather overhead.

It says all the right things while also vexing us enough to be glued to the conference come Monday and any footage beyond. So yep, mission duly accomplished. Our coin purses have been collectively jingled.

The way this game is disseminating its information is making me hate IGN even more. A 5 minute interview with the game blurred out in the background, the promise for more in a couple days... only to give us 5 seconds of gameplay, with another promise of more. I hate this bullshit.

This game (or its sequel), however, is pretty much a guaranteed must-get for when I eventually pick up a used, cheap Xbone in two years. Unless Sony kicks Polyphony's rear into overdrive and they crank out a GT competitor.

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!

But what you expected from a teaser?
Some of you should just calm down, it was just a teaser, and in a very compressed video what is also expected coming by IGN. The gameplay will be shown in 3 days!

Why don't you guys go talk about DriveClub in the DriveClub thread? I thought I'd clicked on the wrong thread or something.

Can't wait to see the weather system / effects and also more about the music selection.

Being 3x as roamable as FH1 is pretty sick.

The extreme closeup looks sharp, when it shows the car in the open field it looks blurry. Obvious difference between the scenes, heck the xbox logo at the end looks way sharper.
