Does a Direct has such an affect on sales? People saw Mario Wonder/RPG, and they are pumped.
And can Switch actually catch up to last year? It does have a stronger lineup this year.

Dayum, those FFXVI numbers! 🔥

@ Luminoth-4545 Luminoth-4545 can you include in the OP or make a separate post in this thread with the previous first week sales of more recent FF mainline games? FFXV and FF7R should suffice I think.

Edit: If the digital ratio is 50% then that means it moved around 700k copies in total in Japan. Considering the PS5 install size, that's very good I'd say!

Actually is pretty bad…. One could assume FF VII r digital in Japan was dramatic in 2020 due to covid….. so 336k is very low.

Seems like SF6 lost its legs pretty quick.

I watch a channel on youtube where people still pretty much play Ultra Street Fighter 4 and still awesome.

Anyway good start for FF I guess, though lets hope it remains in there for a time(I don't think it will remain in first for long though).

Also ToTK doing gods work I see. I don't think any game can really beat it at this point.

About what was expected for FFXVI launch week numbers, it’s going to be very interesting to see where it will land next week. FFXV and FF7R both had huge second week drop-offs, hopefully FFXVI will do better than that.
The Direct clearly boosted all Switch hardware and PS5 also saw a good increase to hardware.

Surprisingly bad ff16 sales. Will digital help salvage it?

Even more surprising that switch outsold ps5 hw this week.

It’s not surprising. PS5 is performing horribly in Japan. This number is only for physical sales, not digital. The true number is higher.

It’s still the fastest selling PS5 game in Japan, which puts into perspective how PS5 is doing over there. There’s a reason CBU3 aimed to appeal to western markets.

Got this from Installbase. (Digital is probably assumed to make up about 40-50% digital at best in Japan).

  • Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 2013) - 301,181
  • Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3, 2011) - 605,660
  • Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 2009) - 1,516,532
  • Final Fantasy XII (PS2, 2006) - 1,840,397
  • Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2, 2003) - 1,472,914
  • Final Fantasy X (PS2, 2001) - 1,749,737

Nice. About what I expected with the 300K~350K range for physical FFXVI. I'm curious what it is combined with digital and how long it'll take to hit 1M domestic. Word of mouth is good, so legs should be decent...

Only thing I'm confusing me is how the boost wasn't enough to pass Switch.

Not really surprising, the company were more or less expecting it.

Lol crazy that the switch is over 100k when nothing notable was released on it this week. Most people (myself included), had PS5 pegged to be number one in sales this week with FFXVI releasing. Fly little switch, fly!
