Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
PS5 low supply :(
I wanna see a PS5 game in the top 10..

It's just ridiculous. Even when the DS was exploding, we didn't have just DS in the whole chart, week after week.

I'm happy for Nintendo, but it's also a little depressing.

DS is first in digital sales since launch in Japan... if I’m not wrong only January it was 2nd.

Hopefully this will stop people saying that Rise isn't going to do better than World in Japan.

I thought Nintendo stopped manufacturing these. Or did they and they've a little bit of stock left over?
There must still be some stock in the supply chain. I wonder how much is left.

We will next month hopefully with Nier and Village. Plus some PS4 games should chart in the top 10 over Summer.

Switch sales look pretty low for normal.

Why are people buying Splatoon 2? 3 comes out next year.

Where do you find digital info?

Rise will certainly outsell Monster Hunter 4 by the end of the year; with digital it's already around 2.75 million, basically meaning that it needs just 1.4 million to surpass the lifetime total of 4.1 million achieved by Monster Hunter 4.
Lifetime the game has a very decent chance to surpass 6 million just depends on how well additional content is received and hype is maintained. It has a lot of positive factors going into it's favor compared to past MH titles; outside of additional content it's basically the biggest third party launched on the Switch thus far; Nintendo will continue to invest into marketing it via directs, their own games and on their eShop. Capcom will be able to use sales to stimulate digital purchases during key holidays through out the year(Obon/Christmas), and most importantly this will be the peak year for Hardware sales on the Switch.

Overall this is not suprising:

Monster Hunter Rise is definitely a bigger draw in Japan than Breath of the Wild 2. It's probably going to be the biggest launch on the system with a user base of 20 million I expect it's launch quarter to be somewhere in the region 3-4 million with digital in Japan.

Anyone surprised by the performance of both Nintendo and major third party titles at this point, or thinking things will bomb due to a low initial shipment isn't reading the room.

The main thing is to look at the growth Capcom will achieve compared to Monster Hunter World in rest of Asia, as I won't be surprised if Rise manages to see x2/x3 growth in places like South Korea, Taiwan and through gray-market sales in China if it doesn't launch officially this year. As I've noted on many previous discussions on the topic, Japan isn't as much of the problem for Sony as these emerging markets. As both countries are following similar trends to Japan and signify an underlining problem for future growth for Sony in the region. Unlike Europe and North America it seems Switch is definitely disrupting PlayStation's position in East Asia in the past 3 years. Microsoft is obviously a non-factor there for now but basically they are getting squeezed on two fronts

I don't think Splatoon 2 sales will be impacted until the first global test-fire for Splatoon 3 - which I don't think will drop this year.

I really can't understand how we have never seen a ps5 game in the top ten. The software sales are none existent.

Thankfully Switch has more supply than it did this time last year, when it only did 25k

Third parties are reluctant to move on from PS4 yet. Village on PS5 should hit the top 10 though.

Rise is killing it. Also Switch vs Switch Lite ratio is almost 1:1. Switch must be supply restrained.

The return of lotteries, is upon us

Still this Quarter should beat last year's result without much trouble, the figure to beat is GBA Q2 2001 at 1.29M currently the Switch is at 231K, so a little over 1.06M to go with 11 weeks left - an average of 96K per week is needed to become the third best Q2 of all time in Japan. DS reached heights we aren't likely to see repeated without a huge launch in Q2 which we are lacking in 2021.

At this rate MHR could potentially become the best or 2nd best selling Monster Hunter game in Japan after MHW lackluster ltd sales which is around 2.9M units for base game.

Total shipments (including digital sales) of base game without discount version sales ltd.

MHP3 - 4.9M
MH4 - 4.1M
MHX - 3.3M
MHW - 2.9M
MHR ~2.7M

It's kinda cool they produced one last batch to satisfy demand for another few years. They could have cut it short and it would be hard to source them for fans.

Mr. Community
Monster Hunter Rise is fantastic and deserves success. The only blemish is that technically it isn’t finished (COVID 🤮) and it’ll take a couple months to ship the necessary updates.

No major changes to the Top 50 until Pokemon Snap & Resident Evil: Village launch,

April will be mostly about how well Monster Hunter Rise is able to hold. Capcom/Konami/Marvelous combined are about the same amount of market share as Nintendo so far this year. With Rune Factory 5, Baseball Spirits, Monster Hunter Stories 2 launching these three companies are likely to retain their position in the ranking for the foreseeable future.

Behind them we have Square, Bandai, Microsoft making up the second tier. Square will be launching Nier shortly, while Bandai's big Q2 game is Scarlet Nexusm both publishers will hope they are able to score hits on the sluggish PlayStation ecosystem but personally I don't see it, as the rapid decline of software on the PlayStation ecosystem is pointing towards difficulties for exclusives. So it's all about the performance of these games outside of Japan.

In the next tier we have Atlus & Koei Tecmo but it seems they are only going to see movement in Q3 with Samurai Warriors 5 & SMT V.

Disappointed to see just 15k Ps5 this week. Will take 2 weeks to pass ps4 at this rate.
Have to imagine Sony is prioritizing shipping consoles to bigger markets atm. Any chance someone in Japan can say if it’s in stock anywhere just chilling and not selling?

#3 on amazon Japan but it's sold out. RE8 out in 3 weeks so they'll be desperate to get their hands on it but sadly Sony have no chance of meeting demand. Expected problems for the fastest selling console of all time.

Yea so simply put Sony is putting the ps5 in Japan on the back burner for now while they are struggling with meeting demand worldwide. Not that shocking.

Japan is getting its fair share. Why should it get special treatment over other countries? All main markets are equal in terms of importance.

I’m not disagreeing they are getting their fair share. I responded to someone talking about the low sales for the ps5 in Japan this month. I’m just saying since it still seems to be selling out it just means the low numbers are due to low shipments, not the death of the brand in japan.
