Beyond the Colors of Time

Release: Currently in Closed Beta
Developer: BattleState Games
Platforms: PC

Escape from Tarkov is a hardcore and realistic online first-person action RPG/Simulator with MMO features and a story-driven walkthrough.

With each passing day the situation in the Norvinsk region grows more and more complicated. Incessant warfare in Tarkov has sparked massive panic; the local population has fled the city, but those who stayed are looking to improve their fortunes at the expense of others. Having accepted the new reality, savage Tarkov locals - "Scavs" flocked into well-armed gangs and started the redivision of the city. Nowadays, Tarkov is separated by unseen borders, controlled by different groups. Gain-greedy gunmen would go to any length to have their way, including the murder of civilians and direct confrontation with the two private military companies.

The players will have to experience living in the skin of one of the mercenaries who survived the initial stage of the Tarkov conflict. After choosing one of the sides – USEC or BEAR – the player’s character starts to make his way out of the city. Tarkov is sealed off by UN and Russian military, supply chains are cut, communication with operational command is lost, and in these conditions everyone has to make his own choices of what to do and how to get out of the chaos-ridden metropolis.

Escape from Tarkov is a PvPvE realistic First-Person Shooter which incorporates several modes for the players to play: online PMC raids, scav raids (short for "scavenger"), and a temporary offline mode. In these raids, players can choose to play solo or go in groups and spawn on one side of a variety of maps to choose from in the game. Once spawned in, the players are given an extraction point on the other side of the map, and must fight against other players and scav non-player characters (NPC) to reach that point in order to escape. In addition to combat, players can also find loot in these maps such as firearms, equipment, armor, etc. and once extracted, can store their loot in a stash to use in future raids or can be sold in a flea market.

When players die in a raid, they lose everything, including loot and the equipment they brought into the raid. Players can insure weapons and equipment they brought in to increase the chances of getting the gear back if the gear is not taken by other players. As mentioned before, players can also play as a scav in a raid, where players are given a random loadout to use and do not lose anything from their stash when they die as a scav, making scav modes a learning source in the game, If a player dies as a scav, there is a cooldown timer until the scav mode becomes available again for the player.

While not in a raid, players can sell their loot to traders that are provided by the game or on the player-driven Flea Market. These traders can provide a variety of quests that players can fulfill to increase their trader loyalty to get access to more items that can be purchased from the trader and more quests as well. Players can also settle and upgrade a living area called "the Hideout," which is an underground bomb shelter that once upgraded with the materials needed, give the players in-game bonuses and crafting options.
The game also features a very robust gun modding system.

How do I gain acess to the Beta? Is the game on Steam or any other platforms?
Buying any of the editions will give you acess to the beta. The game is currently sold only on the official website.

Does the game go on sale?
Yes, usually when there is a Russian holiday.

Does the game have microtransactions, lootboxes etc.?
No. Nikita, the main developer, went on record saying that Tarkov will be "a traditional, full purchase" .

What about the different editions? How much of an advantage do I get from that? Do I need to shell out 140$ to be on the same level as everyone else?
The gear that you get is pretty minor. The biggest advantage is having a bigger stash and a bigger secure container. Both of these can be obtained in-game but they require quite the grind.
Neither of those will win you gunfights but it's still an advantage you have over other players. Whether you consider that P2W is up to you.

If I join solo will I be matched with people that are also solo?
No, the game will put you against other players regardless of their skill, playtime or group. Grouped players need to coordinate as there is friendly fire and there are no UI indicators to show you which character is friendly or not.

Do factions matter? Which one do I pick?
There are plans in the future to expand on this feature but right now the choice is mostly cosmetic. Besides visuals, USEC has English voice-lines while BEAR has Russian. Different factions also get different starting equipment but they don't matter that much. Pick whichever suits you but be aware that if you want to change it you have to reset your account or wait for a wipe.

Highlights of the "TarkovTV" podcast-DevBlog #009

● The wipe will take place in 0.12.6, however, we will save the progress of examining items and weapon presets.
● Before wipe, for 3-4 days, there will be pre-wipe events, info about them will be reported closer to the point.
● After the wipe, at the flea market, you will only allowed to sell items that have found in raid status.
● "Run through" status-will reset the “found in raid " status from items.
● It is planned to rework loot on locations, its spawn locations, and the loot pools themselves.
● Random places with loot are planned. Also, it is planned to introduce a feature so that the AI will protect places with valuable loot.
● The first part of skill system rework will be in 0.12.7.
● Regarding Steam Audio: the developers of Hired Ops asked BSG for a module to implement in their game (HOps). Positioning already works cool, it becomes clear where the enemy is, not just on the left or right, but also behind and above your position or in front and below. The game will have Steam Audio in 0.12.6. You can check this feature out already in Hired Ops.
● A new caliber will be added to the game .45 ACP and several weapons samples are planned for it. In 0.12.6 there will be Colt 1911, later UMP and Kriss Vector.
● Almost the entire team of level designers is working on a new location — Streets of Tarkov. Nikita confirmed that there will be up to 40 players on the map. Developers like the idea that you can get lost on location. The screenshot showed a helicopter flying near one of the high-rise buildings.
● Work is underway on new equipment for the scavs-cheap, bad-looking-something like survival gear.
● It is planned to rebalance various thermal imagers after adding more of them.
● New boss for the Shoreline location, name: Sanitar. Not much of a fighter, who uses stimulants. Also, he will have various unique stimulants in his inventory. One of them is MULE, for carrying weights and another with interesting effects called " Obdolbos”, the development of the Sanitar himself.
● Customs expansion is planned for 0.12.6. One of the new buildings will be the base for Reshala and his crew. Perhaps there will be an underground level at the new part of the location, or at some building.
● In 0.12.7 or 0.12.8 it's planned to add a USP pistol in three variants at once.
● Demonstrated more detailed customization of weapons on the example of Colt 1911.
● Demonstrated a work in progress video of the PPSH. The introduction of PPSH in the game looks logical and realistic, since there are many military warehouses on the territory of Russia, where a large number of PPSH is stored.
● About cheaters: every day from 1500 to 2000 dishonest players are banned. Approximately 50,000 dishonest players were blocked in March. This month it is expected that there will be more of them. The team is constantly working with the BattlEye developers.
● The game will have a system of reports: both on suspiciously acting players, and on all sorts of exploits, bugs, and obscene nicknames..
● Items taken from players in raid will still not have the "found in raid" status.
● Barters for dogtags will continue to be added. Conditions for bartering with dogtags are planned to be revised (quantity, levels).
● About the cultists: Nikita refused to talk about it, the players will see for themselves when they are added. In which patch? In any.
● Unity is scheduled to be updated to version 2019. This will give devs even more tools for optimizing and developing the project.
● They work with spawns on maps all the time. Bugs are being fixed. Spawn points are edited constantly, including the ones based on feedback from players. The following patches will also bring changes for spawns fixing.
● With the wipe, there will also be changes in the VAL/VSS characteristics.
● In post-raid treatment, you will be able to see statistics on damaged parts of the body — injuries (where, how, and with what cartridge). More detailed reports may be added in the future.
● Customization of armored rigs and plate carriers is quite a big and serious feature. Most likely it will be added in patch 0.13, along with Streets of Tarkov .
● Compass: possibly in 0.12.7.

I tried this game last year, and thought it was so hard that it wasn't worth the effort. I said so in multiple posts.

I reinstalled it about a month and a half ago to give it another try; and, well...

The servers are wiping in about a month, too, so now is a really good time to jump in.
Be warned, though. Until you figure out what the hell is going on, you're going to die a LOT.

I will wait...

It's worth it right now. The game already runs very well.
Admittedly, it is notorious for random micro-stutters; and I have doubts whether they'll ever actually be fixed due to the Unity Engine, but the game itself is fantastic.
I haven't heard anything about it coming to Steam at all. If that's your limiting factor, you may be waiting for quite a while.

Be warned, though. This game is not for the faint of heart. It has absolutely zero tutorial, and is far more demanding than your typical shooter.
If you don't look up the meta, you'll never figure out what the hell you're doing. If you're into looking stuff up regarding games, though, it's a treasure-trove.

The devs said this could come to nextgen systems when the game is much closer to finished, like 3 or 4 years from now. Its an intense game to watch on stream.

Oh wow forgot about this. I bought it like 3 years ago and probably last played it 2 years ago. It was pretty fun even back then, will have to jump back in and see how far it's come.

Hmm thinking of picking this up. I've got a question, why wouldn't someone shoot at a PMC? I don't get the difference in why you would shoot automatically at a scav as a scav but not a PMC?

Great OT Helios Helios . Game should be right up the alley of a lot of gaffers, based on my time with it.

T Twinguistics You don't always want to engage against enemy PMCs for a number of reasons. You could be outnumbered, as PMCs often travel in squads. You could be outgeared, in which case the ammo you're running might not even effectively penetrate their armor. You might be running a short range loadout and be looking at a long range engagement, or vice versa. You might be stacked with loot and have no good reason to risk it all in a difficult PVP encounter.

PSA: this is on sale in about ten hours for 24 hours I think.

Pretty sure I'm gonna take the plunge. Not sure if it's a good idea or not but I want to try it, it looks awesome.

Anyone run this with 8gb ram? I know 16 is the recommendation but I've read it should be ok?

I tried but I had a lot of stuttering. After I upgraded to 16 gbs they stopped. For the most part at least, some stutters from time to time are right now to be expected regardless of your setup.
Your perfomance may vary, especially since my ram was ddr3. The game also includes an auto ram cleaner in the options.

And downloading! Way more expensive than I expected, even with the discount. The price wasn't including tax and so it's ended up being more than I thought without a discount! Bit annoying to be honest.

A quick offline raid went fine and it seems to run ok. Result! Killed 2 scavs but then died just randomly running around.

Going to try my first online Scav raid now - wish me luck!

Game is incredible. I recommend everyone picking a map to learn and then finding were the extractions are. Soon you’ll notice that PMCs spawn in a handful positions and the same for scavs. This design method transfers to all maps ... this is very basic but has helped a lot for my buddies get into it who were intimidated. Then you can start to learn the meta and best loot runs.

How does this compare to Vigor?
I had never heard of Vigor until you mentioned it.
After watching a few videos on Youtube, I'd say they're significantly different. Other than both being first-person-shooters, they don't seem to be similar at all. Vigor also seems hella-janky compared to Tarkov and other modern shooters.

I'm hoping they fix this, actually. There have been a small few situations (like 10, total) where somebody immediately ran to me after I spawned and sniped me while I was trying to figure out where I was. Mind you, that was during my early time in the game. Nowadays, I already know where I am when I spawn. It still seems like something that could be solved, to help out new players.

If any of you folks are playing Tarkov, I'm totally down to team up. Just shoot me a PM.
I tend to Rat more than Chad, but I've been known to wreck some Thicc Bois in my time. With the wipe coming up, especially, I'm devoting all of my funds to going full-Chad mode.

Hope you're having fun. The game can be very daunting at the beginning and there's a steep learning curve.
I think I've made a big mistake.

The stuttering with only 8gb is awful and I've had 3 or 4 hard crashes already (complete locks, same as I always get). Not great. Why is it such a RAM drain? With this laptop being what it is, I dunno why I thought I'd be able to play this without it locking up. One good thing is that you can rejoin a raid after a crash as long as you haven't died. I did that on a scav run and extracted which was cool.

All in all I've managed to extract 3 times as a scav on customs but died 3 times as PMC. Not killed anyone yet. Steadily losing all my starter gear, is that to be expected? I only go in with one pistol now due to gear fear lol.

What happens if I lose everything? I think that's gonna happen to be honest.

Overall, game is great but performance is not. I might ask for a refund but I don't hold out much hope. Also it's a shame the game is so expensive. £35 after a 20% discount? Yikes.

Made it through a one hour session without a crash. Tons of stutter but no crashes which is an improvement. Just had to lower settings dramatically so it looks rough now which is a shame.

Had a blast though, two PMC and 2 scav runs. Didn't extract from either but killed two scavs. Man it's tough! I'm gonna run out of gear at this rate.

So I need to kill 5 scavs for a starter quest and I've managed 1 so far lol. I can barely hit any shots with my pistol, even up close. I think to hit 1 or 2, I need 15 or so shots. Any advice on aiming in this game? It's hard to tell where I'm missing, Perhaps I need to aim lower to adjust for the kick or something? The scav will just stand there and I'll still miss so I'm not sure what's happening.

There's bullet drop so you have to adjust to that. Also pressing control while aiming will steady your weapon. Other than that I think it's just the weapon. Most pistols in this game a pretty weak, even more so if you're using bad ammo. Try to do an offline raid to get yourself used to the shooting.
Also try learning maps one by one. You'll probably want to learn customs, not because it's a good map for beginners (although it's quite simple) but because it's used in a lot of the early tasks.
For Scav runs I've always prefered reserve (unless I get a shotgun scav and than I go factory). It's an easy map to learn too since all the building are labeled after chess pieces and has easy extracts for scavs.
Over time you'll learn what to loot, where and how much it's worth selling.
Once you get a bit of experience learn the different types of ammo and what the armor class/penetration values mean. You don't have to get too in-depth, even looking at a basic chart found on google and going with the budget options can be incredibly helpful.

They've been working on it, so it's much better than it used to be, but there's still a sliiiiiight issue with FoV and aiming.
If you have your FoV set to the max setting, your aim is going to be a bit off. Set it just one point lower, and the glitch goes away.
If you have your FoV set lower than the max, and you're still missing, then it's all your fault. :messenger_winking_tongue:

If that's not the case, it just takes practice. Headshots are more important in this game than in any other I've played. You can go for leg-meta, but I wouldn't even bother looking up what that is until you've had some experience in the game.

Shoot me a PM if you want. I'm totally down to play with you and show you some of the ropes.

Sidenote: It's "Alt" to steady your aim, not "Ctrl."

And recommending Reserve (and Factory) as starting points is just cruel. :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Thanks, yeah I'm learning Customs at the moment. It's the only one I'm running and I'm getting there. It takes a few minutes for me to orient myself after spawn (or blindly stumble on a landmark) but then using the map on my phone I'm just about ok. I'll bear the alt tip in mind, same with bullet drop. Maybe I'm trying too long a range for a pistol or something. I do have better weapons but scared to use them lol. I'm thinking I'll strip then and sell them for more pistol loadouts. Not sure if that's a good idea though as a better gun will help me to kill scavs. Decisions!

I think I lowered my fov to save on Ram and minimise stuttering. I'll check though but I'm sure it's just my bad aim, it sucks on Apex Legends too.

Yes, some raids would be fun. I'm UK time though and pretty limited. Around 9pm UK time for an hour or so works for me. Invitation goes out to anyone reading this too :)

right. I always forget which one it is, even in game.

ha, maybe but that's how you become a man. No, but seriously I had a lot of luck with scavs on reserve because by the time you spawn as a scav most chads are already gone or waiting for train. Besides, shoreline and woods are right now just sniper simulator. Especially with the thermals.

Had one 'good' scav run tonight when I didn't see anyone and found a 313 Shoreline key that's work 200r I think. Other than that, it's been pretty much a disaster. Why is it I do infinitely better as a scav?

4 runs with my PMC and 4 deaths to bullets that I didn't know where they came from! Getting a little tied of that. Also, I'm still stuck on 1 scav kill which is crazy. My shots just do not hit and/or kill them. Whereas one hit to me and I'm dead. At this rate I won't even have done the first 2 quests before the wipe! I also need 5 selawas and so far have one (and that came from a scav run).

I am loving the game (I think), but, man, I suck horribly. The only thing I've done is learn the map a little better. Any combat? Forget about it. I take a pot shot up close, miss, run off for another angle, lose the dude, die to an unseen bullet. Over and over again.

Seriously, this is getting ridiculous now. How on earth do you kill a scav? I had a pistol and the scav was just standing there right in front of me, hardly even shooting at me. I line my sight up with him and shoot … and shoot again … shoot again … and shoot again … and shoot again. Little higher, little lower. NOTHING. I took 25 shots to land 4. FOUR. And he didn't die and eventually the AI thought enough is enough and killed me.

He wasn't that far away from me, maybe, say, across a street distance perhaps.

What am I doing wrong? It's ridiculous. It's like the game is bugged or something. I'm not moving, the scav is not moving, I line up my sight, pull the trigger and nothing.

Someone please help me figure this out. I don't have time for offline mode but I think that's what I'm going to do next to try and figure this out.

I … I just can't anymore .. seriously.

Just had the weirdest raid with my PMC. I'm on Customs, at the sub station, and there's this PMC just running around with no gun. I didn't see him at first and he meleed me when I was looting so, I chase after him with my pistol … and miss .. and miss … and miss … and miss. I wasted 16 round doing this and he's still just running around and around, kinda of dodging me but not running away. I then think, f this, I've got a knife and so I rush and stab him. I'm stabbing him like crazy but then I die to a punch.

WTF

I repeat … WTF?

Firstly, how'd I die when I had a knife and he just had fists and secondly, what on earth was this guy doing?

I landed 4 of the shots btw. I thought 'even the worst ammo can one shot in this game, it's totally realistic and balanced' yet none of my shots ever do. Also, why didn't my knife work?

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH if there was a refund button I'd be smashing the heck out of it right now. I'm not even sure hit detection works in this dodgy game.

Seriously, no one here wants to enter into a conversation and maybe offer a little advice?

Still stuck on 1 scav kill. Man, this first quest is the hardest quest I've ever faced in any game. They just don't die.

Getting a little better at hitting shots though. Hit a scav with 4 out of 8 pistol shots. He didn't die though! Is the starter pistol really that weak? Also, they are magicians and always disappear only to pop me in the head from location unknown.

I shoot a bit, then run to the other side of whatever I'm using as cover, to change up my angle. Oh he's gone, where'd he go? I frantically look around and he's no where to be seen. Bang. I'm dead again. This happens all the time.

Someone please tell me how they managed this first quest. What gun did you use? Did you wear armour? How long did it take? etc. I'm struggling here.

I dont know why you are having such issues. I will say that the gun doesn't matter as much as the ammo. You are probably using PS or PP ammo which is trash. Spend some money on better ammo and see if that helps. I recommend downloading the Battle Buddy app for your smartphone. It has the ballistic charts in there.

Also this game has bullet drop and velocity. All characters have 5 different hit boxes. 2 Arms, 2 legs, Thorax/head and stomach which adds up to 450 health not including armor. PP ammo is 46 per hit which is only 184 with 4 shots landing meaning you are no where near the 450 to kill them. Headshots will kill with one shot if you are are actually hitting the head only if the scav/PMC is not wearing a helmet. Armor adds a whole other layer.

As for the PMC with no gun, they are called hatchlings. People enter raids with just their knives/hatchets to get loot and get out. My favorite hatchet run in Interchange at night.... I can do a run in 7 minutes and get out with some good loot.

Also, on Customs stay away from the buildings when trying to do this quest. PMC are usually always geared in Customs because that is where most of the quest are located. Run around in the trees and you should bump into some Scav that you can kill without others getting in the way.

I played this game like 4 hours a day for months and then randomly got banned. Cant access my account or get a reply from BSG. Im out like 160$
BSG needs to address previous ban waves and hackers before I think about getting invested again.

I got to 100 mill net worth on the current wipe, so I'll probably give the game another crack when they implement Steam Audio and the Streets map on the next wipe.

Looks like we have ourselves a Gigachad over here.

I only had about 15 mil before other games took my attention. I only logged in a handful of times since they added the weight system. I am also waiting for the wipe and new map to dive back in. I just built a new rig that should run this bad boy like a dream.... or as good as Tarkov can be ran lol.

Thanks man, I appreciate the help honestly. With that info about the damage the bullets are doing it's no wonder I'm not getting many kills. Think I'll have to go for better ammo or maybe just use a mosin as I've heard that's good and I did kill a scav offline with one. I just hope I don't run out of money as they are 33k each I think.

Also thanks for the hatchling explanation! Wish I hadn't died to him, dunno how my knife didn't work.

I got to around 30 mill and a fully upgraded hideout, I love the core design principles of this game, but they need to layer on additional progression and perhaps more importantly match making.

Also, they need to re-balance the ballistics and armor systems, I find it very pointless to wear anything above armor level 4, cause almost all the ammo goes through level 4 like butter also goes through level 5 and a lot of it also level 6. And once you get hideout up and running most players can easily produce or can easily afford to buy 995 ammo a plenty and that cuts through everything anyway. Not to mention how incredibly powerful and cheap it is to just go in with a Mosin with 20 bullets and nothing else and come out stacked.

Knives are the same concept as ammo. The default knives do either 16 for a chop or 21 stab damage. If you are not headshotting with the knife it will take a lot of stabs. There is no punching in this game so I assume he had a weapon and it was just not rendering on your client side.

Also, Mosins are great because all the ammo does around 70 per shot and they are accurate. Easy to head shot people or do a tons of damage without worrying about whats in the clip/chamber.

If you find yourself hurting for money watch this:
.

The map has changed since this came out but the main extracts are still there. You will want to ignore the KIBA part until you find or buy the keys. You can still get lucky from the tech shop and find some good loot. I am sure there are better loot runs for people hurting but this is always what I have done when broke.

Online for an hour. Anyone want to run Customs with me? I need scav kills and selewa kits.

I'm having no luck solo. Killed two scavs offline which was nice but jumped online and got headshotted by the next scav I saw.

... And the next one. What is it with the ai in this game? Man, they are tough. He wasn't even that close and I barely peeked round the door and boom, headshot.

It's like I'm playing on insane mode when everyone else is playing on normal.

And finally on tonight in Tarkov I finish the evening with a completed scav raid and got some nice loot. Didn't see anyone the entire run. At least that went to plan I suppose.

I always get the run through penalty but don't think that matters much?

Awesome. Really pumped to have a level playing field, my first 30 hours in the game at late wipe have been rough. I'll be behind the curve in a day though no doubt. Fantastic game.

But Tarkov has an offline mode anyway? Is this a way to keep gear and XP earned offline?

If so then man, that's pathetic.

Edit, oh I think I get it now. You keep the stuff but only for this offline version ( I hope).
