A new gameplay reveal of Ghost of Tsushima shows developer Sucker Punch's at the peak of its powers; exploration, combat and stealth are all shown off across some beautiful landscapes. It's an entirely new direction for the team after the cityscapes of its Infamous series - but so far the promise is being lived up to.
John ( D dark10x ) and special guest Tom Morgan sit down and discuss the footage shown on Thursday
- Trailer footage was PS4 Pro
- Sucker Punch's history on PS4 have has always been technically impressive
- GoT's aesthetic a marked departure from inFAMOUS' cityscapes
- Trailer gets to show SP flexing their "foliage muscles"
- Not a lot of visible pop-in, draw distance/LOD are far enough for impressive level of immersion
- Realistic/natural lighting combined with realistic movement on blades of grass is a nice touch
- Seems to excel way beyond what Witcher 3 could do environmentally
- Trailer shows scenes full of particles and volumetric lighting, a lot going on visually in areas that even great looking inFAMOUS: Second Son couldn't deliver on, a real "density" to the air
- only downside is is John doesn't notice much interaction between Jin and the environment, water doesn't seem to kick/splash around Jin, foliage doesn't seem to move/push around his feet
(edit)
I just went back and found that portion to see if I misunderstood him the first time
timestamped link
He says he doesn't see foliage pushing and moving with Jin's feet, and then Jin doesn't cause any ripples or splashes as he is walking through water
- gameplay seems like a mix of Tenchu mixed with Far Cry
- Tom seems to find the HUD elements popping up in combat a little immersion breaking
- John really likes having to use environment to explore instead of just waypoint markers
- animations are big step up from inFAMOUS: Second Son, lot of potential there, even the physics on his cape/cloak look great, even little details like white ribbons flapping on shrines show off the work
- photo mode seems incredible, includes full animation cycles and physics you can tweak in the shot
