No-one's surprised, but still ouch. Probably for the best to separate this thing from the console launch if they're expecting mixed/bad reception. Nothing screams "this game really isn't very good" more than pulling it three weeks from launch and reducing the price from $70 to "free".

I guess that it means that you'll have two months to claim it, since the other scenario that you describe had never happened with a PS Plus title IIRC.

Even the standalone version of GTA Online that will be available to PS Plus users during the three months following the game's launch on PS5 in 2021 will be yours forever if you claim it during that period of time.

This is the best move Sony could make for this game. Putting this thing out in November for $70 would've killed it on arrival. No one was going to take a chance on this for that price. Putting it out in a less crowded window and on PS+ gives it the best chance to become something.

This is the opposite of sending a game to die. This is Sony letting a studio put out what they want, realizing a traditional rollout won't work, and adjusting their strategy to give the studio it's best shot possible. Stop coming up with bullshit

Pre-order numbers were probably abysmal and Sony realized it was going to crash and burn. November is insanely busy, and Destruction All-Stars would've been a casualty.

Glad they decided to not kill this game from day-one, now could even be a success. I trust the devs and for what I've seen the game seems really interesting (outside of the horrible art-style), so now I'll play it for sure.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking - that placement will also to be cover a gap I think in that area for any games relasing, which might hint at 1st May before we potentially get a surprising drop like GT7 or H:FW or GoW2
