Demon's Souls screens

There's no mention of voice chat? Japan devs surely don't like putting those features in the game.

No mention of voice chat, yet. It might not be there.Though, I think they did this on purpose as being a soul. Instead of that, a player can leave hints that will be apparent on the map. For instance a player leaves an illusion on the ground next to a rock. The other player will think ''hmmm, there might be something behind that rock", at least that's what they want to convey. They want the gameplay to be more about hints etc.

Does it mention if I'm relocated to random players or allow me to find my friends off PSN list?

They haven't mentioned something about that yet.

what if say i died, go visit a friend, they die, do i leave or do i hang out with him even after death? ;o

This too. The network tab isn't too extensive and just gives general info.

no mention of what skills/power/attack the souls have [or is it basically the same as if i was alive?]

As a soul, you become a phantom. I bet a phantom plays different than a normal character. Look at the first screen, that black armoured thing is probably the phantom.

LOL. you don't have to answer these. ;P

I tried my best ;)

EDIT:

2 players max play online.

The network details aren't very clear .... the way the official site describes the whole thing, many things are still vague.

After going through a few times I think I get the picture - network play is not exactly MMO, but there are some MMO-ish systems. Most of the time online players play in their own "local online copy" of an area (no explicit mention of co-op online yet, but I won't be surprised if it's there), but they can interact with other players that are playing in their own "local online copy" of the same area in interesting ways.

If a player perishes, he becomes a soul entity. He becomes visible to other online players as a soul sign. Other online players in the area can summon the deceased one as a phantom. A maximum of two summons. The phantom player that is summoned can cooperate with the "living" player to be resurrected (no details how). Then they can co-operate to clear difficult areas.

You can also see the images of other online players. That is you may be practically in an area alone - but other players who are online and playing the same area may become visible as "ghost images". So players can aid other players by actually writing and drawing messages and hints on the map - and these appear as ghostly words/images to the other online players. Players may also see images of others disappearing into a wall - giving them a clue that there's a secret door.

If a player perishes, he leaves a blood patch and other online players will get the blood patch. They may also see a ghostly replay of the deceased player's demise. This serves as another interactive warning system - "uh this place is full of blood patches on the ground..."

Under game system, the 'soul' currency system is introduced. 'Soul' is the universal currency for leveling-up and purchasing items. Ten character classes are available. Knight, magician, thief and cleric are explicitly listed so far. Class determines starting stats and equipment.

Unless I'm mistaken, it seems that your weapons and shields change so when you get new gear you can actually see the upgrade ala Dragon Quest VIII.

I don't understand why so many games (mostly RPGs) still aren't like this, and even less that people seem to accept it. This isn't 1991, devs.

some network play details

In network play, multiple players can enjoy adventures in the same world. The theme tying all this in is "mutually helping each other". During network play, if you due, you go into a condition called "Soul Body". In this condition, if you release a "soul sign", a player who is still alive can summon you, allowing you to still participate in the game. The system is designed so the living and those deceased and existing as soul bodies can cooperate and progress through adventures together.

One player can "summon" up to 2 "soul bodies"

Players can leave messages on the map for other players as well (could be used to indicate where treasure chests might lie, where enemies might be hidden, etc).

I was a HUGE King's Field fan back in the day. If this game can replicate that game's feel I would be extremely happy. Another PS3 game to keep my eye on.

Also, Gametrailers' 'TGS 08: Castle Crashing Gameplay (Cam) HD' and 'TGS 2008: Raiding The Castle Gameplay HD (Cam)' videos for anyone who may have missed them:

i think the game looks really good graphically (even moreso considering how large the castle location appears to be), i like how everything appears to have real weight to it
my complaint visually is that white outline kinda glow around the character, a lot of games have it, and it's horrible

Happened upon a copy of Fami PSP+PS3. Quite a lot of never-seen-before screens.

Most impressive is probably that of an attacking dragon - it will already be present in an early area. This is a beast that you won't be taking on any time soon, and probably a special boss type that has to be dealt with in a special way.

Several screens showing the thief class performing a backstab. Hopefully this mechanic works well. The thief also has a special parry move that can counter-attack an enemy. The thief will also be able to use magic at higher levels.

It is revealed that although a knight has great combat prowess, his luck rating is low, and will find it difficult to find items.

Oh yes, traps will also be present.

Still no mention if you have the option to first in first person yah?

And has the story been revealed yet?

Either way, it's likely mine, but these are good things to know about KF games.

Ohh, you picked up that issue. Slightly OT, but was there anything else interesting mentioned on the other games featured on the cover?

No mention to date, but it's safe to assume no first person at all.
Story has been revealed quite long ago - nothing fancy. This will probably be more of a dungeon crawl type of game.

Anyway the story is generic: A great kingdom of warriors - but the silly king went and woke up an ancient evil in the icy regions of the country. Demons overran the kingdom and a mist covers the whole country. Into this mist the protagonist goes... That's the short summary, as generic as it gets.

Well most of the other game info already covered by the regular Fami threads. But the best thing about this issue is that it contains a simple, but complete events chart for Samurai Dou 3.

I'm now concerned about how everything shown so far seems to take place in and around the same ruined castle. If it is only this one location, there needs to be some really good level design.....

Holy fucking shit that YT trailer is insane!

Could this be the secret BBC game?

Edit: Oh, no it isn't :lol

looks really cool, reminds me of Monster Hunter, 3rd person action rpg with big monster, classes with different weapon and feel beyond just stats. at first I'm kinda turn off since it's not a story centric game, but if it's something like Monster Hunter games, than I want to at least try this.

Shadow Tower was one location and the game was pretty kick ass.

Combat looks clunky in 3rd person so far, I would have preferred a first person view.
Yeah, pretty much what it looked like back at TGS, "early". The game is coming out in February, so hopefully that's enough time for them to get that sorted out. It does look like it could still be good overall(even without the fixes). I'm liking the nice variety in bosses, size included.

I wouldn't expect combat mechanics to change too much honestly.
The battle system looks like a direct translation of King's Field's system from first to third person.

If you've never played it, look up some videos of The Ancient City combat. The wait time, the stamina bar, the singularity of the attack motions, etc, it's all there.

I agree that I would prefer this game in first person. But at this point it looks too awesome to not want it.

I cant help but feel that feb 09 is just a few months too early. from what i have seen more time in the polish machine will do it a world of favours and currently there is 0 hype/knowledge form this game so sales are going to be very meh.
