Demon's Souls screens

I would love more jrpgs with a dark theme. Apparently versus has to some degree, but it is following a more flashy tip (which I also like)

Same here. That's partially why Versus is more appealing to me than vanilla XIII.

Holy crap, there were 4 King's Field games?! I played the first one and it has a special place in my heart. Many late weekends were spent during my youth on that one.

As for Demon's Soul, I cannot wait to see gameplay videos! Bring it on.

You forgot that SONY is helping them with some devs and money. It's still a SONY game
No, it's a From game. It's going to play like a From game. Why would Sony work with From if they wanted anything else? The company does have its fans.

Third, Versus looks like a nice change of pace.

I am one of those weirdos that liked King's Field. I always loved the feeling of mystery and exploration in the games.

yes! The vids better not disappoint. I hate getting such a good vibe from screens like this...seeing a jrpg with art that resembles berserk, and having it look crap in motion.

Yes I would also like more Dark themed jrpgs or with a more mature cast and story, would be nice but yeah it's nice to want things.

Surprising responses since Enchanted Arms seems to be universally hated. I happened to think it was pretty decent. I also loved Chromehounds. Couldn't stand the Armored Core games..

So I'm not sure where that leaves me. I guess I'd like to look at some clips and get more info. The graphics definitely look up to par (As has been the case with all their games).

I personally am excited for this mostly because I expect it to be nothing like Enchanted Arms, going by the King's Field connections. And even in screens it's very clear the tone of the game is completely different as well. From Software makes such a wide range of games, and some I love (Otogi) while others I loathe (Armored Core)... they're almost always worth checking out though.

Am I alone in not thinking the King's Field games were really RPGs? I know there are RPG elements but I think of them as more a first-person dark fantasy action-adventure. Admittedly, it's been a very long time since I've played one.

What's prohibiting them from expanding their fan base?

I mean that's in every companies interest.

This did kind of came out of nowhere, did it? And yes, readin description and looking at the screens, how can you not get the "Oblivion of Colossus" impression?

Because King's Field has looked like that since the series' inception? The use of scale in the series has always been amazing, even on the original PSX. The colour palette has always been dark and dreary, bordering on the long-used joke of "all brown" that western FPS always seem to get lobbed at them.

This looks like a 3rd person (not sure how I feel about that) King's Field game.

Therefore it looks awesome.

no. all but one of the main series games have been released in english. i believe that the NA king's field 1 is actually king's field 2.

Oblivion? How about King's Field?

People comparing this game to non-From games implies they have never played a From Software game before, but are interested in this one. Castigate not those seeing the light for the first time.

Three of the four games in the main series have received official English releases, and the one that hasn't has gotten an unofficial translation. The only ones you can't play in English are the PSP games and the mobile phone games.

Never got the chance to play King's Field, but I would kill for a new Wizardry one made by Sir Tech and one by the Busin team so I can relate to this.
Is Ancient City for PS2 a good KF title to start with?

MorisUkunRasik said:
so this pack would be english freidnly?

That particular collection is 100% Japanese. There's no collection for the English releases, so you'd need to buy them individually. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get the entire localized series for less than twenty bucks.

No, i was just joking. The Dark Side Box sold like 500 copies in Japan. I just wanted to post it for awarness sake. (I made a thread about it over a year ago)

It is not and will not be translated.
But you can get King's Field 2-4 here. And Shadow Tower.
(Am I the only one who played Shadow Tower??? It was awesome).

Of course, they also released Eternal Ring here in NA, which is by the same peeps, but its too clean for my tastes. I couldn't get into it. Too sunny and not as immersive. Just my opinion.

King's Field 1 never made it to NA, King's Field here is actually KF2.

And KF4 they released it here as King's Field: The Ancient City.

I can't even tell you which one is the best. KF1 had the most impact on me as a gamer for sure considering it was like, the best release in 1995. Unlike anything I'd ever played. KF2 is just better overall I guess. I loved the world and the openness of it. But I'd say if you wanted a fresh start on the series, try to find The Ancient City on PS2. It holds up the best.

edit:
I know we keep talking about KF, but really, the artstyle here is way more in line with the Shadow Tower series. Which really, is essentially King's Field, but different story and much darker and gothic

While this came out in NA, I STILL feel burned we never got the PS2 sequel!!!

I had the a little look at the famitsu article online about the game. No much new stuff, but there a few small tidbits:

You make your own character for the story. The story is about a lost country/home full with mysteries and how you get there. At the start you select a name, gender (yes!), face, hair and more stuff to your liking. And then your exploration can begin. The controls are very responsive and the attack button is put at the right place. When attacking, you have to keep guard and search for weakpoints like enemy's arrtibutes etc. There will be all kinds of weapons throughout the game. You have to think which weapon to use at the right time and don't just use all the weapons the same. There might be cases where a weapon is suited for certain places more etc.

I have to admit I never played King's Field game. I'm farthest I can possibly be from an RPG fan so that probably explains it. I just compared this to what was familiar to me.

You don't like male main characters? :(

Just kidding.

So far it sounds pretty good, the only problem I have with From Software is the style of their storytelling which consists mostly of (voiced) text without action of the main character at all. Enchanted Arms was pretty barren but I liked that approach.

King's Field 1, original PSX. Old as dirt, (ignore the stupid words on the pic), but this bad boy was 20 feet from the start of the game and mocked the shit out of you protecting that cave.
How many times had I tried to tangle with him way under leveled? :lol

Open world type games with huge bosses at the beginning (i.e., you can fight them whenver you want - good luck trying to win before at least 10 hours fo leveling though) back in 1995?

Yea, King's Field has a l w a y s been underrated.

I think I love you

Oh, I like some male characters alright...:lol

But females improve connection with the player (from the same sex). I feel more in control and more myself you know? When I play with guys it's like I'm following their stories and look at their bodies?

Seriously though, if you can select a gender, this doesn't sound like a deep story . I hope they'll think about that one. WNC also has character creation but looks to have a deep story so far.

No idea, they didn't really state which button it was.

And you're welcome :D

I wonder would the game have NPC? Seems he is pretty lonely so far.

The game was just announced. I'm sure they are still hiding a few secrets from us. There are still many things we don't know about. I hope NPC will make an appearance.

I'll call it right now: if this game is First Person like every damn one of the games this is the "spiritual successor" to and is announced for NA market, I will change my avatar to this game.

And that's a big deal.

I'm actually more excited about this than most anything, but its TBD. It appears to be third person combat, which is disappointing, but maybe it'll be a hybrid like Oblivion was. Heres hoping it stays true to the roots!

Dude screw my avatar I will tatoo my ass with LYLE PRINCE OF DARKNESS!

I like the little sign forbidding photographs and filming in the video. Adds a touch of danger.

You can also see what looks like some later areas in the demo and a bit of a menu if you watch the mostly-obscured screen in the background.

Animation really looks quite nice. Likin' the third person camera.

The video shows some framerate problems, and it seems a bit too slow, but other than that I like what I saw, even if it was very short.

Bingo. The style looks great, but gimme a solid first-person option.

It definitely looks to have issues in the early goings, but as was said earlier, it showed some promising signs too.

yeah, it looks like an incredibly early build...no game can run like that upon release haha

What happened to Gamersyde? I mean why even release videos without sound. It's like half of the game is missing and just feel really dull....

Anyway the framerate is terrible at the moment. Other than that looks a bit like The Witcher.

The fact that they're From. Have you played any of their games? Were you around for other From announcements, like the Armored Core 4 reveal, where people unfamiliar with From got similarly hyped? This is going to be the same deal. The game will come out, get terrible reviews, and no one will buy it but From fans.

I dunno about this third person stuff. Doesn't look nearly as depressing as King's Field!

Looks veerrrry King's Field (if King's Field were third person). Note the stat screen, the realistic armor, the customization, the slow pace of the combat, the bleak environments. I like the floating HP bars for enemies.

Someone will still come in here and call it Oblivion of the Colossus, and I will promptly put a watermelon up their nose.
I was going to say, Oblivion meets 10 fps...
Game needs a ton of polish, those fighting mechanics aren't looking too hot either.
