Deep Fear is a really solid game. Voice acting is worse than the OG RE but the gameplay in Deep Fear is solid, great graphics too. I have the Japanese import and a burned EU copy. Haven't finished the game but need to.
As for favorite non-Capcom survival horror games. The first that comes to mind is ZombiU, that game is frigging amazing. It's such bullshit that the game was largely trashed by reviewers. ZombiU came out like a month after RE6, that was the videogame landscape back then and reviewers trashed it because the melee felt "too repetitive." The developers made it more than clear that they were aiming for old school survival horror and they acheived it in spades as far as i'm concerned. Definitely not a AAA title but who cares, the games lacks a bit of polish but it's still an amazing gameplay experience.
The Padre on the PS4 is a super charming RE/AITD throwback. It plays more like AITD and is totally worth checking out if you're older and have patience for old games like that.
Currently playing through Fatal Frame 5 and I must say that I am really enjoying it. The mysteriousness of the story, combat mechanics, and sound design make this game worth playing. It's like if the PS2 era was in HD. Game feels old but it does enough things right to make it worth playing.
