Bobby Kotick asks for minimum salary as Activision addresses toxic culture

None of that here.
I'm not entirely dismissing your point but what are you doing to change that?

How is any change going to happen if the user who disagrees stops trying to go against the current (as hard as the tide may be coming) and stop trying to make better discussions?

What I'm saying is that you shouldn't be so easily discouraged, come in here and have a good take and try and not be what everyone else is. Be funny, have fun, and have good takes as much as possible because nobody is perfect.

It sucks but you ain't changing anyone but yourself and that's all you can hope for if you out your best foot forward.

JUST SAY BO TO DRUGS!

If it were that easy, everyone would stop preordering, everyone would stop buying the same fifa game, everyone would stop supporting shitty corporation practices but year after year company does some PR move and gaf as well as a lot of the idiots around the world (sometimes myself included) buy up thier excuse, buy the enxt big game and repeat every year. No amount of increased smart conversation has managed to sway user X from buying skins in Call of Duty or other dumb ideas that feed their pockets.. Hell, even I got the battlepass in Warzone when I played it for 2 years but its a f2p game at least so theres that.

But what about his bonus and stock compensation structure?

Salary means little to these big wigs. Steve Jobs took a token $1/yr salary but had shit loads of stock options worth billions.

Hes a business man, sure i hate what hes done to the company but his job is literally to make dollor, what would you rather he lay off some staff or go totally bankrupt so that everyone loses there jobs?? Thing is it may not look it but call of duty games cost a fortune to make, now theres 3 main developerswith 3 year development cycle so cost has went up even more, cod makes money but it aint gta money
Mate, that year was record breaking profits, he laid off 800 people and he got 150 million $ in bonuses. "Go totally bankrupt". Get your mind out of the gutter.

He also said that he won't be awarded any compensation or bonuses on top of this basic salary

For the people wondering about bonuses.

Also a lot of you really salty about this guys pay. Firstly, he doesn't choose his own pay, he negotiates and accepts it. Or he can work anywhere else just like any other employee. If people get laid off, that doesn't mean he's using their salaries to make himself richer. It just means they are optimizing the business by getting rid of people they no longer need. If they were needed, then it would ultimately negatively affect Bobby's compensation and will upset all the stakeholders putting Bobby job at risk. Bobby gets his money regardless because most of his compensation comes from stock that they "put aside" for him. Not from the cash they would use to pay salaries. And even if they do layoff people while he gets a big payout. It's two separate things. Activision does not exist to keep people artificially employed or to distribute profits to the people that work for them.

Bobby Kotick is already the largest individual owner of Activision Blizzard stocks. He doesn't need to be given a few more stonks for him to feel rewarded if they go up.

Lol, yeah, I bet that salary will hurt SO much when you're literally sitting on millions you've made over the years. This guy's such a twat.

Some may say " why even get any salary?" well thats easy because his basic monthly bills probably ammount to 60k a year and well he cant loose money right?.. that would be crazy!

The whole thing is bullshit though.

I can understand people wanting to take Kotick down, but not like this.

Look the whole premise is horseshit. Obviously.

On one hand the claim is Activision culture holds the wimmin' down, but if that was the case why wouldn't there be more of them in the organization? Why is Bobbo saying he's going to "increase diversity" when we know all he cares about, all has ever cared about is $$$?

Its been blue-hairs vs old guard douchebags, and handing the former a victory is going to solve nothing culturally as the people who step up into the newly vacated positions of power are just going to establish there own cliques and hegemonies.

As per usual, nothing much is actually going to be changing just the chairs will simply be switched around a bit.

Oh, and no doubt the new "power" will be looking to seal the deal by shoving their politics and cultural outlook into every orifice of the product.

The founder of the company I work for used to split his salary between all of the staff at the end of the year. He was basically a millionaire and had income from other places as well I would imagine so he gave his yearly salary to us.
Unfortunately he left the company a couple years ago and the new CEO doesn't do this, understandably. A multimillionaire like Kotick being paid the minimum wage for a while ain't all that big of an effort from him.

He got the haul of a lifetime last year by being compensated $150 million and now he wants to act humble lol. This minimum salary thing will last 12 months max and then he'll reverse it when no one is looking.

He'll be back next month sweating and asking the board to reverse the decision. I've got yachts and planes to fuel goddamnit!!

I dont know how accurate this 2020 Kotick compensation breakdown is, but it doesn't really matter because as long as his annual pay is something like this, his salary dump makes no difference.

In 2020, his total pay package was $150 million. But only $1.5 million was salary. A tiny bit was bonus. And almost all of it was stock options.

People nitpicking CEO pay always look at the wrong line in the pay packages. Not that the average person would even know because most people dont think of stocks or know anything about stocks. They just see a $ amount and think Bobby K is getting $5 million every two weeks on his pay stub. Wrong.

These things are so performative.. dude is likely nearing billionaire status, and it's not just all in Acti/Bliz stock or anything..

He SOLD over $300 million in stock in 2016 alone.. his current stock worth over $300 million. He's likely sold hundreds of millions of dollars of OTHER dollars in Acti/Blizzard stock all totaled, considering he has dilluted his ownership so significantly.

Yeah, obviously taking minimum pay vs. the $50 million he was granted is a big chunk of change.. but he's trying to maintain his position, and if he doesn't start doing more PR wins or get the stock price up he very likely could be getting the boot next year.

Maybe hire people based on merit and not immutable characteristics. Y'know, don't be a racist/sexist cunt.

Also work on making the games you have *good* instead of continuing to damage/destroy them.

It’s nice to see the rich willingly take less money, but how does this solve the problem? Also, how much is he making in shares still?

His small part in Moneyball was good. When I watched the money for the first time a couple months ago, I thought it looked like him. But didnt believe it was really him. It was. lol

not defending the way activision/blizzard staff were treated but people here acting like if you was in his shoes you wouldn’t accept millions each year is funny :messenger_tears_of_joy:

What difference does his salary make if he’s still a moron that allowed all this to happen in the first place? I’ve not gone out of my way to look into it all (I got bored of it on ERA) but is anything being done to address all of this? Change of processes and policies for example and actively putting safeguards in place for women?

Pretty much this, look at how much the goalpost has moved because armchair champagne socialists on Youtube and Twitch have had their income increased.
People like Hasan literally mocked people in the past and went on big rants about how buying a 3 mil house is unbelievable and horrible, and well...
Now he's a multi millionaire and it's fine?
Suddenly being a multi millionaire is not the problem anymore, now it's billionaires ( billionaires who his streams are benefiting and underpaid employees who he doesn't pay himself who make his stream possible ).
At first it was celebrities, then these people became celebrities so it became multi millionaires.
Then they became multi millionaires and now it's billionaires.

What's more frustrating about it too is that they don't put their money where their mouthes are at all, they hoard it and only really spend it on themselves and whenever they donate it's like 1k for the upcoming presidential election they make more while afk:ing on their stream for a couple of hours.
Hasan doesn't even pay his mods and didn't pay his Youtube editor.
And all of these Youtube socialists have the most flamboyant and wealthy aesthetic and don't hire employees and spread their wealth at all either and they pretend like they're poor and just want to pay their student loans off and pay rent.
Meanwhile they're part of the wealthy elite and only socialize with celebrities and only come out of the woodworks when it's something they can personally benefit from like the AOC streams.

It's just disgusting, I don't like Bobby either but holy fuck people are so insanely brain-dead when they worship and follow all of these Youtubers and Twitch streamers and make excuses for them.
Those people are perfect examples of how money corrupts and the funny thing is that Bobby and Bezos does far more to spread their wealth than they do.
People can criticize them for underpaying and not doing it enough, BUT AT LEAST IT'S SOMETHING INSTEAD OF LITERALLY NOTHING.

99.9% of people who pretend they'd be these noble souls in his position wouldn't.
It's like how everyone believes they'd be that one exception in Nazi Germany who'd stand up for what's right, truth is they'd probably be the first one to heil.

Lol, such a generous man. Truly letting all that money trickle down to us. What an age we live in?

What's next? Bobby actually doesn't circumvent taxes or moves his money from the cayman islands back to a US bank?

I'm excited for the future!!! 🙃

I wouldn't. Ten million is beyond plenty to retire comfortably with little worry, especially if you know how to invest. Believe it or not, many people do proportionally support their employees as much as their own needs. My family has done it for years with our businesses.

Didn't he just get a 250 mill bonus? Who gives a shit about salary? 98% of these cock suckers make all their money from company stock/bonuses. His salary is >1% of the bonus anyway.

He could have donated his salary to a charity dedicated to toxic shit in the workplace.

Instead, he reduced only his salary to $1... the company just makes more profit instead because they're not paying him. How did this work on anyone here? Wow.
