Battlefield Will Return in an "Entirely New Way", Says CEO

I wonder if it was all a big ploy to have a reason to stop making Battlefield games.

Step 1: make a succession of shit Battlefield games
Step 2: watch playerbase evaporate
Step 3: oh no look nobody wants to play Battlefield! Shucks!
Step 4: divert capital originally devoted to Battlefield to some bland pvp only battle royal rogue-like arena live service GAAS experience (gotta get all the buzz words in) shooter that will be will be wildly successful but will not be what any of us (on GAF) wanted.

Hell Let Loose, Squad and DayZ are my vibe.
I don't know what a BF could give me that would make it worth not playing one of the two better games mentioned above.
Since the audience is still casuals & kiddos, a new BF will probably not be too complex, everyone can do everything and actually team play is secondary. Since it comes from EA, there will be an in-game store, battle and premium passes and "cool" cosmetics.

Nope thanks

HLL and Squad are good games in their own right but they can be incredibly slow and end up feeling like walking simulators unless you’re playing with a group who know what to do.

With that in mind, do we have a Squad or HLL group on Gaf? I really enjoy those games but usually get caught in a squad who have no idea what they’re doing.

This would get demolished in the modern market. EA is trying to make money, not run a charity.
I kind of suspect that has been their mindset for years. I also suspect that the hubris of those who felt that way will lead them straight to F2P, if for no other reason than to avoid saying they were wrong. But I do believe that the Battlefield 4 model is the way to go, with microtransactions to modernize the revenue potential and avoid paid map packs.

I think going F2P would be the worst decision they could make. The F2P arena is just too congested at the moment to be profitable imo.

Hey, EA, bring back 1942. Dont add stupid fucking shit like Call of Duty and dont make it for the ADHD crowd

Just make it simple.

Thats it.

Also, fuck off.

If the map isn't square it's not battlefield.

YOU ARE LEAVING THE BATTLEZONE

How would that be demolished? People would buy it and it would make money
You can't look at modern successful multiplayer games of today and actually believe Battlefield 4 with pretty graphics would be able to compete. That design philosophy wilted on the market for a reason.

Why did EA move on from BF4 design? Because it didn't pay the bills. If it didn't pay the bills in 2014 - 2018, why do you think it would today?

Battlefield 3 and 4 were perfect. Just make an updated 60fps build on these already amazing games and boom. Don't need to reinvent the wheel here

I don't agree with that premise. WW1 was just too far back. After that they insulted their customers time and time again.

They say something similar for basically every upcoming entry.

Enjoying 2042, but would be nice if they don't fuck up the launch on this next one.
If they do then it is over I think, for a while at least (my uninformed speculation). I shudder to think of my favorite all time shooter series ending up like that…

The series peaked on 360/PS3 with Bad Company 2, BF 3, and BF 1942. Those games were well-designed and just plain fun. All the BF games since then bored me to tears. I have little confidence in EA delivering a great BF game again, but we’ll see.

They dragged the Battlefield brand through the mud, for so many years. They lied and insulted their fans, so many times.
Most people now don't care about Battlefield. And with the market saturated with online shooters, of every kind, it will be hard to find a place for a new BF.
And with most of the original dev team abandoning Dice, the talent that made the good Battlefields is gone. We have seen the people now at Dice have no idea of what makes a good game.
I don't see this game generating the kind of interest from gamers, that it did a decade ago.

All they need to do is go back and look at what made BF2 and Bad Company so fun to play, then make a modern version.

No need to fuck with the recipe.

Everyone on the team was probably kissing his ass while he was playing it too
Letting him get kills and whatnot lol

It would be wise to not use these "buzz words". Saying "tremendous live service" is going to be a red flag for most gamers.

This just means when the new game is revealed. EA is gonna be shelling out more money to those YouTubers. More thumbnails of a gun being reloaded with big yellow text saying clickbaity things....

This has got to be the last chance the game has. I doubt the last 2 games were enough of a success for EA. Whatever, bury it I say. They lost their way and the direction they constantly push the series into will not please old fans or make new ones.

Just freaking give us an expanded bf3/bf4! All they have to do is use the amazing BF4 template to improve the graphics and especially physics(destruction etc) and it would be a massive success and fan favourite. They can experiment with new ideas after they recover some damn goodwill which is in the gutter after the abomination that was 2042.

DICE stinks, Battlefield stinks, EA has no idea what to do with the franchise, and even if they did, DICE isn't competent enough to execute it. It's joever.

Just make a game like BC2 or BF3 ffs. Focus on the maps (bf3 maps are god tier, bc2 is great too). I can still hear a sound of a gun in bf3 and i know immediately what gun the enemy is using, in BF2042 the gun sound are so bland.

Sorry about my english.
