Doctor Who Season 8 |OT| I will always remember when the Doctor was me
Best line of the episode. He went smiling into regeneration. Pure awesome.

The only two things I really actively disliked were the 'explanation' of his name, and the Time Lords apparently firing a regen at him as a means to explain how they're going to get around Matt being in-story the 13th. I know we're never getting his name. Maybe like, the final episode when the BBC is killed off by an insane Conservative government in the future, but until then, we'll get whatever fits (nothing, 'John Smith', etc), but "He's the Doctor, that's all you need to know" did not fit the grandiosity and importance of the scene/the storyline. As for how they're redoing the 12 regenerations problems. Capaldi is not only 12 he's also 14 and 1 all at the same time, with only a brief explanation for 'how' it's going to work eg we kicked the can down the road - good luck to whoever has to do this all over again in 20 years.
Those lyrics always made more sense for the Doctor regenerating than Akhaten waking upEnding it off with a bit of music from The Rings of Akhaten was perfect.
If Moffat has any sense in him, he will use this opportunity to keep Doctor and Clara in the TARDIS in s8e1. Perfect timing to show us for the first time directly how the TARDIS changes from one Doctor to another.![]()

It seemed like a really big waste of a genuinely decent story arc. How does a Timelord approach life when he's used up all of his regenerations? We saw how the Master dealt with it in the 80s, but how does a good man like the Doctor deal with it? How does his thirst for adventure and excitement, his putting his ass on the line every time the universe is in danger change when he knows he's just one mis-step from the end of the road?
But no, let's just casually mention the regeneration limit for the first time since Who came back, retroactively make the Eleventh Doctor the Thirteenth and throw a deus ex machina at it to make it go away in about ten minutes.
I pretty much disagree with a lot of this thread because I ended up loving the episode but just came in here to say that
"I will always remember when the Doctor was me" was a way better final line and it made me feel much more emotional than "I don't want to go".
Yeah Lem was entirely River Song.
Flirts with the doctor.
Gets called a psycho by him.
Can fly the Tardis
Was in the Mainframe....now who was put into a Mainframe?
Also there is the fact Lem is Mel backwards.
You can't get much more on the nose than that.
I wonder if because he now has a new set of regenerations, he might have to relearn a few things, like flying the TARDIS, coming from his "Do you know how to fly this thing?" remark. Or maybe I'm just looking into it too much and he's having a memory blank because he just regenerated.
Handles was thebest thing about that episode though.second
And tumblr delivers

Can the doctor be in the tardis while it regrows?

Having a problem with it is fine but immediately chalking it up to "Moffat ugh!" is over the top imo. I think something to keep in mind is that just because it changes the events in The Name of the Doctor doesn't mean it wasn't planned. If anything, this is actually not what people call "typical Moffat" since it's not a trick. It's not a situation where something happened that you didn't see. It was a legitimate changing of history, which should be expected in a show that features time travel so heavily. That's why I don't consider it a cop out. I mean standard rules of time travel typically mean that you can either change something or you can't. In Who, it seems to me (and correct me if I'm wrong) that anything that isn't time locked can be changed and there's nothing that's been said that I've seen that would lead one to believe that Trenzalore was time locked.

I hope the amnesia is temporary and more as a comic effect to start a new doctor. After all that speech about remember things would be dumb the new doctor start from zero.

Well, we know he will remember things because of:

Doctor Who finishes second for the day in overnight ratings with 8.3m.
Which is fantastic for the show. For non UK people Christmas Day is quite the TV battleground, and so to be the second most watched show of the day is a real achievement. Even better, it beat out Coronation Street on the other side which has always been a bit of a rival.
Massively low ratings compared to previous Christmas Day's across the board to be fair, but still good for Doctor Who it's able to beat out the soaps.
Given Doctor Who's massive time shift ratings it could possibly be the most watched show of the day in the end, which would be an amazing achievement as well.
Mrs browns boys is the unfunniest pile of shit I've ever seen, THAT was number one on Xmas day?Who would have got ten million had it been opposite Emmerdale, as normal. In fact, it had a big peak for the regeneration, with Corrie having finished early.
Mrs. Brown's Boys was always likely to top the day. It's quietly and subtly become the biggest comedy on the air- it was top for Christmas week last year without actually being shown on the day itself! It timeshifted monstrously, too, so don't expect Who to overtake it.
With that said, timeshift should be really good for Who as well. VOSDAL viewings (viewings after the first showing and before 2 in the morning of the next day which contribute to the overnights) are much less of a factor, and Doctor Who normally does a lot of business in the VOSDAL. It was basically a score draw with Coronation Street, too, with very similar ratings, which undoubtedly damaged the potential ratings for both shows. Corrie will timeshift, but far less than Who will.
Honestly, when all is said and done, I could see a final figure for TTOTD heading towards the sort of rating that The End of Time Part One got, give or take a million. Considering how much more promotion that episode got than this one... well, that's not bad at all.
It's massive in Britain.Mrs browns boys is the unfunniest pile of shit I've ever seen, THAT was number one on Xmas day?

I've never seen Mrs. Brown's Boys but I assume its basically 'When the Whistle Blows' from Extras.

I know, my in laws love it. My wife and I were looking at each other with confused faces last night thinking what the hell is this? LolIt's massive in Britain.
There's no legislating for taste.
When the regeneration is taxing on the body, he will have temporary amnesia. It happened with 7 into 8.
Regeneration is very unstable as it is, look at 9 into 10...he was asleep for hours. 5 into 6...he went crazy.
I would highly expect it to be temporary.
I do like Twelve's little leitmotif at the end. Dunno if they'll keep it, or if it'll just be an initial concept like The New Doctor was, but I like it anyway.
Also, it absolutely killed me when they brought back Four Knocks.
