Doctor Who: Time Of The Doctor |OT| 11's hour is over now... The clock is striking 12

In retrospect, I think the most disappointing part of this episode was finding out that the Silence are just genetically engineered weapons of the Church.

I think 11's final words didn't have the impact of 10's. There was nothing like as good as his speech to Wilfred either.

I'm kind of disappointed with it to be honest. It just didn't have the emotional weight I wanted from 11 leaving. :(

So if I've got it right, this is the timeline for the Silence:

The only question I have in this is that they were on Earth since the stone age to influence Earth growth to get the space suit. So did the church send them back to the stone age to get the suit for Melody?

That ending. Such feelings. The middle was slow, and it really could have benefitted from another half hour to flesh it out, but whatever. The end was the important part.

And the way he went. There was no absorbing energy out of his companion. No absorbing radiation to save another companion. Nope. This time it was
old age
. Interesting.

Question about that though. Why did Eleven
not age at all during the 200 years he was wandering around trying to escape from inevitability. But now suddenly he ages after like 300-500 or so years of fighting a war in one place
?

And that
bowtie drop. Shame he didn't grab a fez for his last moment and keep the bowtie
then regenerate into Capaldi so he could be wearing both for a single minute. Would have been hilarious.

Also, am I supposed to wrap in spoilers? I never know. So I did it just in case.

As somebody who's currently drunk as fuck due to Christmas festivities that was amazing. I'm sorry to all of you who weren't drunk as fuck and are picking apart a Doctor Who episode.

Just finished watching with friends. Haven't digested it fully yet or stopped to analyse the minutiae but honestly this was everything that I wanted in a Matt Smith send-off. Cried like a baby too.

.... I wish it was better.

I did love that they made use of Matt's new hairstyle, and Matt's performance was pretty good. But it felt like a mess of an episode.

The callbacks to moments/level of quality that I associate more with RTD makes it all show runner quality almost seem cyclical.

He said about the show in which the main character regenerates.

Look at it from the angle that by this episode he's adding another 300 years on top of the 200+ he's already lived. Let's say he's in his 'relative 20's' in S6, late 30's after those 200 years, then late 50's by the time we see an older him in this ep. The difference between how you look in your 20's and 30's is arguably less than as you enter the latter stages of your life. If that makes sense.

If not, let's just say he got some Gallifreyan touch ups after S6.

Relative to the show generally- it wasn't too bad.

Relative to Christmas specials- it was one of the better ones. Nice ending, unique idea for a regeneration, and a nice look back to his past adventures.

I would have liked the town of Christmas to have developed though during the Doctors tenure as sheriff though. What started out as his standoff to protect a seemingly insignificant village (in typical Who fashion) ends up putting more people in danger through his actions.

I still stand by my opinion that Smith deserved another full proper series though given the shoddiness of his last one.

Watching Time of The Doctor just after An Adventure in Space and Time brought lot of feels.
I think it was better than End of Time, the story would have been good even without Eleven regenerating. I was pleasantly surprised with the return of "All the Strange Strange Creatures" in the soundtrack and disappointed with the absence of an equivalent to "Vale Decem"

I can't remember what made me sadder: Ten's regeneration or Eleven's. I didn't care much for Smith during his run but now I think I like him much more than before, maybe it's due to his last performance, I thought it was his best.

I'm wearing a wig

The lack of exposure to the time vortex caused him to age quicker than he would normally.

I have no idea, it bothered me aswell.

Edit: Overall, it was a solid Christmas special. I've not been loving this season but this was good.

I can't believe people didn't like this episode. It was easily the best Christmas episode of Doctor Who and I thought it was a great send off for Matt Smith.

Two other things:

Goddamn Amy looked beautiful.

It's kind of sad that Clara is basically throwing her heart out at him for the last half of the episode and he's kind of oblivious to it. LIke I said earlier, felt like a Martha thing. Then he kisses the Dalek lady, has a brief moment with someone named Amelia that I'm very shocked he's never brought up to her and now he's old and has kidney problems. :p

So will the next series focus on the doctor trying to get the
universe to accept the time lords back because right no one wants them back.

Best Christmas episode is still Christmas Carol in my opinion.
But this was a great send off. And love Capaldi with only the few seconds we have.

Rewatching the episode now, I still think it's terrific. I do notice that the truth field was actually broken right before it gets mentioned for the first time, the Doctor talks with Clara about using a fake name ("Right, we're a couple from the next time, my name's probably Hank or Rock, something like that") which obviously he shouldn't have been able to do. Nevertheless, the plot holes weren't as glaring as in other recent Moff episodes - the biggest one probably why
the Time Lords didn't come through the crack when they knew the Doctor was on the other side, as was their original plan
- and I was happy enough with the explanations for all the lingering arc threads. Clara also looked stunning throughout.

The reason I believe they didn't come back is that
they realize its not safe for them to return. Half of the universe doesn't want them back and if they did come back it would just restart the time war. So they gave him the power to regenerate in hope that he can one day make the universe welcome them back in peace

Also, Jenna and Matt's acting was fucking fine form. I will say that I believe up to now that Matt is the best ACTOR to have played Doctor Who at LEAST in New Who. I expect a lot of great things from him.

And Jenna was fantastic. That moan right before I'MFUCKINGCAPALDI broke my heart.

Man, I loved how quick and sudden it was. No bullshit, just straight to it. And the look on Capaldi's face was awesome.

I was still waiting for him to scream "FUCK!"

I loved his last lines, but I didn't expect them to be the last. When he jerked back I was expecting it to just be the first major regeneration pang then HOLY FUCK IT'S CAPALDI.

I was literally expecting Matt to pop his head back up.

Also, the guy and lady they first meet answer differently about whether you get used to it or not. Could be that they both have different feelings on it...or that one is lying.

:lol, my thoughts exactly. The quickness of Capaldi's appearance was - for the second time now - the biggest surprise of the episode.

I get the distinct impression Moffat probably won't bother with a 'finding Gallifrey' arc (maybe a future showrunner will, mind.) I feel like he closed a lot of that off tonight, in a sense. They're lost in another universe, and they were banging through (a lot like the Void Ship in Doomsday, eh?) to try to get through, but the cracks appeared to snap closed in this.

Moffat has said he doesn't like Gallifrey and other Time Lords as series regulars, and I'm with him, and I was surprised he bought them back at all, really... but having seen this now I feel like he's accomplished what he wanted to, which is retconning that the Doctor committed genocide, and using them to reset the regeneration limit. I think there's a fairly strong chance of Moffat ignoring it now, other than the odd "my home is lost, one day it'll turn up," line.

Raggedy man...goodnight.

OH MAN.

Saw this and my heart stopped. This is where the actual tears fell after threatening for the last five minutes.

Amen. Same thing happened to me. I liked the little speech about how we have to keep moving in our lives but remember our past selves.

Early nomination for Series 8 title:

Doctor Who Series 8 |OT| Just one question: Do you happen to know how to fly this thing?

His ending speech was fantastic. Talking about how he'll remember every day of this regeneration, "every single day" and I'm like trying to smile, but someone's cutting onions in the other room and it's hard...

Well fuck, how long do we have to wait for new episodes?

BBC's not saying anything, but filming starts in early January, so we should get a picture of Capaldi's costume fairly soon as they'll be out in public. Based on generally how long a series takes to film and get in the can, we're probably looking towards a late 2014 start time - August or something. There have been rumours (that I sadly think are fans wishful thinking) that they'll rush Capaldi's first episode through and air it at Easter as a 'special' stopgap.

Second commercial break, I'm still liking it.
The key in the wig was hilarious, as were the "delicate" eyebrows and "your ears look like razor fins" "I know :D"
.

Does anyone happen to know what
Capaldi said before asking Clara if she knew how to fly the TARDIS? It was hard to make out with the noise the TARDIS was making

The lines are:
D: Kidneys! I've got new kidneys! I don't like the colour.
C: Of your kidneys? What's happening?!
D: Ah, we're probably crashing! Oh!
C: Into what?!
D: Stay Calm. Just one question... do you happen to know how to fly this thing?!

Think the accent might indeed cause a problem for some in the US, but they'll get used to it, I'm sure.

Every time I see a regenration a question pops in my head and yet nobody gave me a good explanation for it.

The whole Gallifrey blowing up thing .... why did the Time Lords vanished ?

Didn't the planet blowing up would only kill then once and then they would regenerate ?

The speech before his regeneration about remembering his past and the people in his life is such a nice contrast to him in The Day of the Doctor, being "the man who forgets."

Brilliant. I'm watching it again right now.

Can't really regenerate when you're vaporized with the planet.
