A small SSD like that would be likely used to install the OS and other software. I thought it was obvious that they're assuming you'll use external thunderbolt storage for the purposes of video editing.

I was talking more internal upgrades over time. I believe the RAM is hard wired to the motherboard, same with the GPU's, correct?

For what you get, yes, its a nice price. Of course, there is zero customization that can be done, so what you buy is what you get.

According to the pictures you can replace the PCIe SSDs and the RAM. They talked about the SSDs being user replaceable (just gotta find one looking like that ) and the RAM DIMMs looked like regular low profile DIMMs .

It is still an Intel X79 mobo just with a custom layout.

I just find it odd they keep pressing on the read/write speed. It's not like Final Cut loads that slowly. You would expect that that was for BIG data transfers and going all external sounds like a mess.

What, do you expect Apple to build a bunch of factories and fabricate the parts themselves? I don't see how you can slight them for this. The parts required are simply not manufactured in the United States.
