Bravely Default for the Sequel Microtransactions; Completion time cut from 70h to 30h

Huh. I wonder if the IAP stuff will be present in the Western versions, considering that Nintendo is handling it instead of SE.

Hopefully there won't be any annoying BUY DRINKS NOW!!! notificiations like in so many iOS games. As long as the "Bravely Second" mode is just on top of the original, I don't care for one bit.

However, it sets a sad precedent for the inevitable sequel. I fear that that one might be full of IAP stuff.

What's the point of the SP stuff if you can just slide down to easy and plow through bosses and obstacles at any time?

The satisfaction of MAXIMUM DAMAGE, I guess.

Also, I don't think you can tinker with the actual difficulty. You reduce the random encounters, but if you always set it to low, you might end up being terrible under-leveled? If so, the feature might come handy if you exploit the encounter rate too much.

The way some JRPGs flow so poorly (especially coveted PS1 era JRPGs), you could easily make mechanical upgrades to the various game systems without cutting any content to cut a typical completion time in half. That's certainly what it sounds like they did here, which is awesome, no game deserves seventy of my hours for bloat and poor design.

I'm not exactly sure why people are upset over this.

Oh, so that's what the trademarks were for? What is Bravely Third then?

Also I don't understand the outrage over the IAP thing. You can put your 3DS in sleep mode to recover SP if you really want to use the Bravely Second move (which may not even be that useful). Or you can buy them. This isn't different from how Namco makes money and item DLC for Tales games. It should be safely ignorable.

Also only 20% of the people reaching the true ending is pretty sad, though not that surprising. I don't really mind that they made some storyline stuff optional as I plan to do all that stuff anyway.

It's not just mechanical fixes they made. Some parts originally part of the main storyline are now simply optional.

Seriously, sounds like they've just increased the number of options you have in how to approach the game. Don't like microtransactions? Don't buy any of that crap. Leave the difficulty sliders appropriately high, etc. You can now blast through or play slowly.

Microtransactions.

As I've said before it can be omited it just an easy way to win a battle, a cheat nothing more. Yes it can lead to shit in future games but for this one it's not bad just a way to earn quick buck from lazy people.

I just wanted the original Japanese game except in English. Am I'm I wrong in thinking that is not what is going to be released here. (please say yes).

We're getting the upgraded version of this game with many new additions/fixes. It's better than the original version.

Bravely Second is a new feature that allows one to pause time in the middle of battles, using SP, and attack their opponent, according to a report in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. SP is gained while your Nintendo 3DS is in sleep mode.

What? You can pummel the enemy while they can't fight back? That seems unfair. I'm not 100% sure what they mean with this.

You'll be getting the Japanese version, except improved with additional options (like a slider to control the amount of random encounters), additional scenes, improved background graphics and apparently modified pacing.

Whether or not the IAP feature will be present in the Western version really remains to be seen. It's practicaly a Nintendo game over here and I'm not sure if they support IAP like that or not. We'll have to wait until the European release to get more info on that, I guess.

Edit: They actually released a list with a lot of changes a few weeks ago. It's important to mention that most of the time they really took fan feedback and fan requests to the heart, so it really seems like they mostly just responded to criticism.

....the game was built without microtransactions in mind. just ignore them, and the game will play identically to the way it was before. jeez, people. so reactionary.

The hell does that mean, nothing was cut? What occupied those 40 missing hours?

A whole lot of battle menu fiddling. A ton of random encounters. About 10 hours of you literally repeating the same thing over and over again after the first ending to get the real ending. If they smoothed out the battle menus, eased up on the random encounters (and adjusted exp gains accordingly), and tightened up that post-ending nonsense, I could see them easily cutting 20-30 hours.

Basically, from what I understand, just don't touch the encounter slider, avoid Bravely Second and do all the quest. You should then have the same game as the japanese one.

Why are people moaning about 40 hours of grinding being cut?

For people who think this was a bad move go back and try and beat the DS remake of FFIII. This makes the game even more appealing for me, now let's just hope the dubbing of the game isn't as bad as the trailer made it out to be.

70 hours? I'm 50 hours in and I still haven't finished chapter 4. I think I wasted too much time trying to get the
Job Point Up
support ability for all four characters :/
Also, both Bravely Second and the SP drinks sound completely optional and useless if you like some challenge.

There's absolutely nothing to be depressed about.
S-E introducing one of the most heinous F2P monetization schemes in a retail title is rather depressing to me.

Yes yes, the game wasn't built around it, so it's optional. I know. For now.

I wonder what this means for the next Theatrhythm. That seems like a game they could easy built around this.

I'm much more worried if they start to add this IAP model to their home console games, like the next Deus Ex, or FFXV/KHIII.

20% of players seeing the true ending actually sounds pretty high all things considered.

For a random example, Only 13.7% of cave story + players on steam have seen either of the real endings, and if you limit it to the true ending, it drops to less than 2.5%.

And cave story can be completed in an afternoon. So if a "70 hour" long game has a 20% completed rate, I'd say they did well!

Yeah it's the first step of inevitable step towards destruction. Now I'm wondering if FFXV will stay safe.
