VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

1GB memory certainly a good start. But because of some patches, should really be more. But it's a decent start anyways.

Unfortunately the Vita is not a product that evolves on a monthly basis. So "a good start" is pretty meaningless. It's either enough or it's not, and in the case of Vita games, it's definitely not enough. Some games have one gig patches.

yes I know, but it will get cheaper faster with an LCD screen versus OLED in addition to the internal improvements that Sony is known for.

Hmmm....after almost 2 years, I wonder if they have smaller chips inside than the 45nm that they launched with. Maybe something like 28nm.

I feel good about this. I don't feel like I need to rush out and get this revision, because it just doesn't look as premium. And, certainly, the lack of the OLED is big for me, as that's a MAJOR selling point of the Vita IMO, with it's insanely vivid colors. The only things I wish my current Vitas had that this does is micro USB, to be the same thinness of the new one, and I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have the built-in storage, though I personally do not need it.

Good to hold, bad when you played games with high-frequencies of input like action or fighting games. It will gives you a massive cramp after 1 hour of playing.

I wish Sony and Nintendo would give ergonomity higher priority than design for gaming handhelds. :(

This kind of makes me want to jump on an OG Vita before they phase it out. Had they allowed the new model to use SD cards, I'd be all over it though.

Don't people know that they have to feel the same way as you about everything? GEEZ!

the only thing you could like about LCD over OLED is... wait, I don't know what you would prefer about it.

OLED is measurably better in basically every way. better contrast. much better response times.

part of me really hopes the LCD technology improved sufficiently the past few years
the Vita 2000 has some really nice changes/improvements

I might end up having 3 Vitas, I'll get the current one with the TWD bundle this weekend, I'm definitely getting the Vita TV because you know, PS Ecosystem, and I might check this model out in 2 years or something, just to have a spare one I can take anywhere and I also like the improvements this new version has.

Ok so is this going to be the second Sony platform in a row where the launch model remains superior?

PS3 launch units = PS2 backwards compatibility

Vita launch units = Superior OLED for Fancy Living

So glad I have both the 1st gens. I don't understand the oled vs lcd switch though. The galaxy s4 did the same thing with the s4 active

It's hard to please people. The OG vita released almost two years ago. People didn't buy it, Sony dropped the price, people still complain it's too expensive and they need one with internal memory, Sony released an even cheaper one with internal memory and ditched the proprietary cable people are still complaining. If you don't want the lcd screen, purchase the old vita asap while supplies last. Sony has given you guys 3 choices to be able to play vita games. There's no excuse now. This is the best time to invest in PlayStation.

How much were launch units compared to slim lined versions again?

This isn't an opinion thing. This is a 2+2=4 thing. OLED is superior to LCD across the board. If you disagree it's because you don't know what good visual quality actually is, ergo you're wrong.

Seems like a case of "one step forward, two steps back", with the step forward being the micro-USB cable support.
I'd imagine Sony counts their bill of materials going down as a pretty important step forward as well.

OLED was the price anchor holding the PSV back from more aggressive pricing. That wasn't looking to change as everyone else in the handheld device market is running away from OLED destroying it's chances to hit an economy of scale resultant price drop.

Sony's only option at this point to offer up a $150 Vita in the near future is going LCD, and they've got to get to $150. The majority of consumers clearly aren't willing to pay the premium for OLED. Sony will keep current MSRP at launch of the new version because new colors = new sales for all hardware, rolling out a lower price now would be passing up free money. After it's had a half year or so of time on the market they'll likely get much more aggressive with the pricing.

Sony has the core Vita hardware + 720p/1080i upscaler + ethernet at $100 retail in the Vita TV. That gives you a good idea how much the guts of a Vita actually costs sans-OLED because they likely aren't talking any kind of real loss on Vita TV.

Man the lack of OLED is awful, not a deal breaker I suppose, but rough to say the least.

I always show my friends this image on their phone, and on my Vita at the same time to show the differences in OLED vs LCD

The LCD's tend to flood it with white space as it can't reach the same color range :( Nevermind LCD's poor refresh rates, and typically awful black levels.

I felt like the only thing that justified Sony not including a 3d screen in the Vita, was that it chose a vibrant and responsive one instead. This update is so meh to me. :(

Holding on to my OG Vitas forever.

Ugggh, so mad about my With OG Vita getting stolen now. It's even more desirable now that the 2000 has been announced.

At least I have my Black OG. :(

so DAT OLED is not that important now? cmon guys, some of you were clamoring it as the second coming and heralding its greatness as the reason to buy a vita, but now suddenly people are defending the LCD just because the new vita uses it -_-
I know, it's insane.

Echoing everyone else, NO OLED!? I was gonna preorder one too.....but then again. I already invested in the Vita docking station which won't work with the new Vita.

OLED LOOKS SO GOOD! The Vita has the best screen in my house.

RIP in peace OLED. The world was not ready for your splendor. I will continue to marvel at mine while the LCD plebians make do with their scraps.

It really needs to continue evolving.

LCD is difficult to beat simply because most people don't give a shit. To them, it's "good enough". The market for high end video equipment is gone, unfortunately.

What are their phones? There is a vast difference between LCD screens, which is what accounts for the varying opinions in this thread. I'd love to see that image compared side by side on a Vita and an HTC One for example.
