VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

if Sony uses the good LCD tech, I think it will be a lot better than current OLED which is pretty bad in current OLED standard.

But if they use shits like ones used in Xperia Z, than yea no thanks.

Well, I felt a bit cheated seeing there was a new model out but I feel like I'll enjoy having the OLED instead. It is impossible for something to look bad on the OLED. The quality and colors on the OLED Vita are the best I've seen.

Anyone have a larger image?

I'd saythey are replacing dat OLED with some Xperia Z screens, which are nothing to write home about.

Also, no mystery port in this model.

Must be cheaper to manufacture so who knows.

Well according to them LCD actually contributes to make it lighter and thinner than OLED.
I guess if everyone used OLED then tech should have evolved that it becomes competent against LCD for many aspects, but unfortunately that's not what happened :(

I'm still interested in the new model, since it's lighter than current one. If IPS LCD can keep up with what I currently have then I'm more than grad to move on to the next model.

I don't think the switch to LCD is necessarily bad, it depends on the quality of the LCD.

If you have used a retina iPad or some of the latest smart-phones, you know there are very high quality LCD screens out there.

Vita OLED panels will not last as long as an LCD panel, and the blotching on dark black scenes is also an issue (but only noticeable in a very dark room).

OLED is better for response time/input lag though and of course black levels.

Still, LCD screens can look very good and it is silly to pretend like LCD automatically means washed out budget TN panel from 5 years ago.

Of course, if Sony went with a cheap panel, then they really made a mistake IMO.

use the LCD tech thats in htc phones, that shit looks amazing.

Held that in hands... Only brain surgery could make me think that shit looks amazing next to AMOLED...

One important thing that they didn't mention was that it contributes to make it cheaper, than OLED... =(

I haven't read far enough into this thread, but will the 2000 replace the OLED 1000 or be sold in conjunction for the foreseeable future? Gotta act soon if I want to get a VITAOLED if it's going "bye-bye"!

Because it's cheaper, thinner, lighter, has improved Start/Select buttons, bigger rear grips, better battery life, standard MicroUSB connector, an extra 1GB of memory for game storage.

All significant improvements - the only technical 'downgrade' is OLED to LCD, but whether that has any real-world downsides remains to be seen. (Personally I'm interested because I find the OLED too bright at night, and I'm expecting the LCD to go much dimmer).

Yeah, this is an upgrade from the original, but some people might only call the Vita-2000 "NOLED" Vita.

So is it better to wait for this new model or to hurry and buy an OLED one cause pretty soon there will be none left?

I'm going to wait for some comparison videos, and if there isn't a huge difference between the two I'm getting the new one.

Remember this is October for Japan only as of right now.

Weigh your options:

PCH-1000:
Guaranteed to have better blacks.

PCH-2000:
Thinner, lighter.
1GB internal memory.
Probably has a brighter screen, especially outdoors.

I wonder if the new model will support 5ghz wifi. If not Sony missed the obvious improvement that would make remote play better for a lot of people (like in apartments where 2.4ghz is crowded)

I think that's the first time they actually made the screen "worse" in a revision.

Still... OLED has lots of problems though.

Again, if OLED was popular among electronic appliance vendors then it should have evolved, to the point that it would be as cost effective and space effective as LCD retaining superb color presentation. However it didn't happen :(

Based on the PSP's history, they'll stop making 1000 model Vitas, but retailers will still sell them alongside the 2000 until their stock is gone.

so DAT OLED is not that important now? cmon guys, some of you were clamoring it as the second coming and heralding its greatness as the reason to buy a vita, but now suddenly people are defending the LCD just because the new vita uses it -_-

Is there difference really that big?

I have a question GAF. As someone who has used their Vita avidly for a little around a year now, and loves it. Will this be worth it the upgrade? Or should I just grab a 64 GB memory card and save the rest of my money?

I'm certainly not minimizing the importance of screen quality and clarity. OLED provides that. However, I'd like a cheaper Vita to be in more hands.

Pink + black will be MINE! I'm gonna import that fucker.

I can't imagine the screen will be noticeably worse than the original system. I usually play on the bus so if it works better in daylight I'll be pretty happy with it.

I need high res pics NOWWWW.

First Vita is a classy bit of kit. The new one will be lighter but will definitely feel cheaper. That is how Sony does it. Keep the 1000. Higher quality screen, better build, likely.

uh, how are you going to play Vita games at those angles? If anything wont have any problems with washed out LCD due to angle, it is game console. You are going to be holding it in your hands and looking at it directly in any case or else you wont be able to control it properly.

i would like them to use same kind of display just for fun when people complain about washed out screen at some angle that nobody will ever be able to use it anyway.

I've been banging the drum for LCD in this thread but you just inadvertantly said something that has changed my mind somewhat. So, my girlfriend has an Xperia Arc, with some of the most horrible viewing angles I've seen on a decent smartphone. Here's the problem with your comment: the Vita has a gyroscope, and many games require that you DO NOT hold it directly facing you! This could be a huge issue if they choose a poor LCD panel...

With that new vita, my first thought was "holy shit integrated memory? maybe they'll also use this opportunity to allow for multiple accounts or at least DLC sharing!!"

Then I searched, and there was no such news (yet) :( Damn I got excited for nothing...

Has Start and Select buttons that are easy to press

Added another pro for the new Vita.

You clearly have not read the thread

Good news I suppose since it could certainly help sales on the system. I have the current model right now and while this does seem to have some nice additions, I think I'll hold onto mine for the time being.

Ok so is this going to be the second Sony platform in a row where the launch model remains superior?

PS3 launch units = PS2 backwards compatibility

Vita launch units = Superior OLED for Fancy Living
