Found a tutorial and now it's copying the files. This is a known problem, so I got lucky and found out very fast, what I need to do.

Didn't stop him from opening up the shipping box and then taping it up when he decided he didn't want a processor and motherboard, so I wouldn't be surprised haha. The thing was battered, and the CPU box was a bit iffy (mostly minor tears and scuffs, though) but still had the factory seal on it. The guy that actually delivered it said that they'd already referred it to the manager and he had me look over everything in front of him. But I just noticed the bent corner a few minutes ago, slipped right by me. Even the die is bent.

It'll probably still work, but I don't want to take the chance.

Who was it you ordered from in the end? Amazon?

Your Current build: i5 3570k (210€) / 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance LP 1600mhz DDR3 (68€) / Asus p8z77-v lk (131€) / asus 770 directcu 2 oc (400€) / xfx 650 (85€) / fractal define r4 (108€) / WD Caviar Blue 1TB 64MB 7200 3.5 (60€)
Budget: 1100€ (without display) / Portugal
Main Use: Gaming - 5,General Usage (Word, Web, 1080p playback) - 5, Streaming games in HD - 2, programming - 3
Monitor Resolution: I wanna play at 1080p and I need a new display. I'm moving my tv which I use to play Xbox to another room and I currently have a laptop
List SPECIFIC games or applications that you MUST be able to run well: I'd like to run current games and 1st nextgen ones at 1080p with 60fps at least
When will you build? I'll buy it next week
Will you be overclocking?: Yes I guess, but this is all new to me

I would like to buy the SSD now but I think that spending those 100€ on the GPU is better in the long run, while I wait for the SSD to get cheaper. The hyper 212 evo is cheap but I dont know a thing about OC, so I was planning on buying him later with the SSD.

About the display, I like the Benq X2411T and the Asus VG23AH, 2 really different options. I'd like to use the display with both the PC and my console but I saw that the Benq has no speakers, so what would be a good solution? I have headphones but I dont like to wear them 24/7.

Going to build a PC in the fall for 3-5 grand, what kind of tech can I get excited about? I know Haswell is not what everyone expected, but maybe a refresh will fix some of the problems. Is Nvidia releasing something amazing in the fall?

Just wondering if there was any amazing tech coming out around Oct-Nov.

For that kinda budget you will be looking at Ivy-E which should launch later this year.

New AMD cards later this year, don't think Nvidia 800 is coming out until next year.

Thanks, I had no idea Intel would release an update possibly as soon as September. Hmm kind of a shame Nvidia 800 wont be coming till 2014. What is the best card on the market in the fall? I really don't want SLI.

Titan. Smokey is selling one.

Add a Maximus V Gene Z77, and then the rest of the parts from the Enthusiast build in the OP. Corsair H60 if you want to push an overclock, or the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 if you just want something quiet. For the power supply, Seasonic X660, or Corsair AX760 if you are thinking about the possibility of a second Titan at some point.

Will look into this tomorrow, thank you!

You're sure you want MATX and not ITX for being small? Case choice is a personal one so if you love the 350 then you love the 350 and that's fine :)
I'm actually not 100% sure. ITX cases are tempting, but I'm worried about them being too small for a titan and such. Thanks for the bluetooth advice too!

Most itx cases will hold a Titan. They are waaaay better designed than they used to be.

Hey guys quick question.

I'm running an i5-2400 @ 3.1Ghz with the stock fan.

I'm looking at my temps in the bios right now and its running at 72C (161F) for the CPU and 37C (98.6F) for the system overall. It's been on for over a week but idle all day.

I've never been good with the temps stuff. Isn't that on the high side? Note that I don't have any problems with the PC per say but I've been wondering.

Thanks!

Well, in the end, building a PC was really like lego. Just need to install the basic programs, that I will need and my Haswell build is finished. I will post pics tommorow, because it's 1 in the morning and the lighting is bad and because I'm tired. Thanks for helping, as usual. :)

Citylink. I'm not sure if the bent CPU was them or the manufacturer but the shipping box was torn open by them.

They're a fucking shower of cunts, make sure you tell Amazon what they did. I don't understand why they persist with them, maybe they're just very cheap.

My haswell CPU over clocked at 4ghz is idling at 37ish. Yeah. That isn't good.

Sure you got thermal paste on and that the heatsink is properly locked in place?

Finally after two weeks I got my replacement motherboard. Everything seems to be running now. The file explorer was acting wierd in the beginning and would periodically restart. I've been copying over my steam files for half an hour and nothing's acted up so hopefully everything's fine.

So Gaf I am currently trying to upgrade my PC. I haven't really kept up with parts all that much.
I plan on spending 1-2k on it. All I need is help with what cpu, mobo, ram and gfx card to get.
I got everything else I want in my cart. Would like it to last 2 years.

Right now I am running i7-2600k with 8gb of ram and a Nvidia GTX 460. Any help would be awesome!

Fortunately, your CPU doesn't warrant an upgrade. Haswell is a really minor bump, and is actually inferior in many ways.

Since that gives you a lot of wiggle room, buy a GTX780, and you're pretty much good to go.

Oh, and get a 120hz/144hz monitor.

Really? lol I got this 2 years ago :( I plan on using this PC parts for my gf rig. Thats is kinda why I am upgrading because hers is dying.

I've got an i5 2500k and 8gb ram and just upgraded my GPU from a 465 to a 770. I had hoped on it lasting me about another 2 years. Do you run at crazy resolutions or multiple monitors? I'm single monitor at 1920x1200 and couldn't be happier with my setup. Sorry, don't mean to criticize so much as tell you that I think you've got a pretty nice setup as is, minus the GPU.

What mkenyon said, also, OC that 2600K if you haven't already.

Haswell is a really minor bump, and is actually inferior in many ways.

When you say things like this you're giving the impression that people in the market for a new PC now and in the foreseeable future (until the shrink), would be better off not getting the Haswell.

What I've been reading suggests that's not true.

Can you provide some concrete data for your "inferior in many ways" claim?

It overclocks like a turd.

She does, plays all the same games I do. I wont be overclocking going with stock cooling.

That's you problem right there. Like many of us, you could have been enjoying 2600K @ 4.4-4.6GHz for the last 2 years and beyond. It's stupidly easy to OC. Any CPU, running at stock, you buy today or near future will get its ass handed by that 2600K OC.

Missed my motherboard delivery, but got a slip saying they'd attempt again tomorrow. Delivered by Yodel, so I hope it arrives in one piece. I'll put a picture up whenever I put it all together.

Well shit.
The last time I built her PC I got her an i5 760. Think that will hold her over still or should I go ahead and get something else. I would like to get a new cpu mobo and ram just so I can easily give her this one.

So far I got BenQ XL2420T monitor, MSI N780 gfx card and SAMSUNG 840 500gb ssd.

Yep, overclock that i5 to 3.8-4GHz and she will be sweet. It's still a very potent CPU.

Anything I need to know before installing? I've taken out my GPU before but never installed a new one.

Yep, OCing is so easy to do (and with basically no downsides realistically) there isn't a reason no to.

It really is great with the K-series processors. I just got my 3570k up to 4.4GHz on stock voltage with almost no effort, so basically a free 30% performance boost. I knew they were supposed to be easy to work with, but this was easier than I expected.

Can the same be said with GPUs? I barely remember the last time I oc'ed a gpu (4200 ti iirc) and freaked out at the first sight of artifacts lol.

To be honest with something like a 780, I don't think I would need any more processing power for the meantime but if its as easy as oc'ing sandy or ivy chips in the CPU world, I would probably give it a shot again.

I'm only familiar with AMD ones but it is very easy too.

Ok, question:

So my 570 had just been connected with the two 6 pin PCI-E cables shown. This is extremely nooby but I imagine I have to match both the 6 pin and 8 pin adapters? As in I need to plug in both a 6 pin and 8 pin?

Mirk

Okay here is what I am keeping:

ASRock P67 mobo

i7 2600k

What I am upgrading:
Nvidia 460 ---> MSI 780N

G.SKILL 8gb 2x4gb DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) ---> G.SKILL 16gb 2x8gb DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)

128gb Crucial C300 SSD ---> 500gb SAMSUNG 840 SSD

Look good?

Yes. 6 and 8 pin required

My last C2D I got away with stock cooling and overclocking. If you have a decent internal setup with fans you can get quite a bit out of the system granted the motherboard doesn't suck.

As others said not ocing especially with a cpu is just throwing money out the window.

Ya I plan on doing some OC on it now. Idle right now is 37c what kind of temps should be safe?

So currently my computer doesn't recognize that there is a graphics card in it. CPUID doesn't show the card, GeForce Experience doesn't open, nor does MSI Afterburner.

What do I need to be doing that I'm not?

EDIT: Think I'm a tool. Installing drivers now haha.
