Just ordered the final part for the build, the 4670K, feelsgoodman.jpg. Should hopefully have it up and running by this time next week, providing there are no delivery/fault part muck ups. I might put a pic up of the final result, if any of you would like to check it out.

What is wrong with the Extreme 4?
.
Low-quality D-PAK MOSFETs, which have a tendency to overheat and wear out with high overvolts
Claiming to have a digital VRM which is actually analogue
Under-reports voltage, which can be very dangerous for your CPU
Looks like an 8-phase VRM on top, but they actually parallel them in pairs so it's only 4-phase.

Hazaro

relies on auto-aim
Really? I got the Extreme 4. ;/
And my response:
A bit more information (I'd still buy something else):

I learned about DPAK Mosfets. Serviceable and cheap, not going to fault them here, yes they should have used something else, but remember these boards were 'better featured' for a long time at ~$105 and crept up to $130
Shady VRM
The under reporting CPU coltage is shady as hell, but only should become a hazardous factor above 1.30V
8-phase VRM with (iirc) what is basically a 4-phase driver, so not truly 8-phase. Shady.
Basically this stuff is all shady and the only real problems that will result are running CPU Voltage above 1.30V (Although your load temps if overclocking should reflect this additional voltage).

It's souring of ASRock's image as a good value mobo maker. Part of it was that the Extreme 4 was $100-$110 and had better specs than the Z77 Biostar or other manf.
Enough people had the boards (complaints were that PCB was thin, mostly) and it seemed reliable enough and hovered around $130 with the other low-end Z77's that it was still recommended.

If you have it, it's still an ok Z77 board, just don't push the CPU volts too high. It's an unfortunate effect of having 6-12 SKUs per maker and very few people qualified or invested enough to make these observations.

You guys think it's worth upgrading from my SLI 570's to a 780?

I really want to get back to a single GPU setup, and have been biding my time waiting for a GPU that can match my current performance. Those 570's have been rock solid, but damn if they aren't hot, noisy, and power hungry monsters. I ran out of VRAM today with my modded Skyrim save today too, so that kind of ticked me off.

What to do GAF?

Purchased the Never Settle AMD bundle on Ebay and snagged Bioshock + Tomb Raider + Blood Dragon for $20, what a steal. To anyone else who has taken advantage of this bundle did you encounter this where the Infinite key should be listed? Message: There is a temporary delay in delivery of some game keys. We will follow up soon with more information and apologize for any inconvenience.

If so, how long did it take before they sent out your key?

Friend wants to get his first PC for games. 650 Ti the best performance/dollars card? Then if he wants, can upgrade for next gen games when the 800 or 900 are released?

I'd go for the Boost model of it. Also you might find a good deal on a 660 or a 7850 too, so you won't go wrong with any of them.

Edit - For example this is probably the best value for money by far. The ASUS DCU II 2GB 7850 plus Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Tomb Raider and BioShock Infinite for $154 after discount code and rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121651 - You get 13% off w/ promo code EMCXPWW42 which ends 6/17 and there is a $20.00 mail-in rebate.

There is also the 660 with the same cooler and it works out at $169 plus Metro Last Light for free http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Hi Everyone,

Gonna need your advice again.

I bought a pc last year to play games and make music. Now I regret that choice. I want to take out my gtx680 and build a gaming pc. I want to use this pc for my music only.

I want the cheapest build so I can add my gtx680 and use it for gaming.

Thanks!

Define cheap for us. What sort of budget are we talking?

Looks like a solid build. How much are you paying for it

edit: just saw you are asking how much its worth :p. I'm not so good with that, but that PC is good!

money is not the problem, but I don't want to overdo it (I am not the guy who wastes his money). I already have the most important thing, the GPU. maybe in the future gonna add another gtx680.

-->>It has to play all the game for the next 5-6 years. <<--

I also don't play full screen since it's connected on my TV. So I use lower resolution.

I am confused. What resolution is your tv? If it is 720 a 680 is overkill.

I went with the 7970 GHz Edition. Way better value for similar performance.

50% more VRAM. Both the XFX and Sapphire ones are less than $400 now after rebate ($382 and $370 respectively). And the value argument just goes out the window once you factor in the potential resale value of the 4 games you get for free with the AMD card. Nvidia is just not competitive in terms of value at that tier.

ASUS GTX 770 DirectCU II OC 2 GB
SAPPHIRE HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB GDDR5 VAPOR-X

These 2 GPUs cost exactly the same at my local store so it's mostly a matter of performance. I've read some reviews that give an average edge of 0.7FPS in favor of the 7970 but say that it overheats easily and makes a lot more noise.

Also, do the free games come inside the box or do I have to redeem them? I just can't find any information page of the GPU in the store's website.

I'm buying an 1080p 60hz monitor (Asus VX638h) and I'm planning on having a good nextgen experience on PC.

Sorry. i should have been more clear .

I meant problems with SLI configurations with cards we have now today EX. two 680s.

The only "problems" I can think of is that some games don't support SLI, and some are so terribly CPU bound that SLI isn't of use.

What would be a good gpu if you're doing most of your gaming through a 720 TV? I was thinking a 650ti.

This is the card I'm looking at:
http://www.dospara.co.jp/5sp/shoppi...=1&br=31&sbr=213&ic=361523&waad=hX0TUucV&lf=0

A 650 Ti BOOST gets you a lot more performance if you have a few extra yen down the back of the sofa.

Any opinions on crucial memory?

Edit: oh it's 1x8 GB stick. Maybe somebody building 16 will want it.

I have the 2x8GB kit version of that, and while I haven't tried overclocking it (since it's being used in my FT-03 Mini Hackintosh), it works great at rating speeds/voltage, and the small size is great. I've always been a big fan of Crucial, as they are actually Micron Technology (one of the biggest DRAM producers), and though I've mostly used them for standard (i.e. non-performance/overclocking) RAM, I've never had a single bad experience with them.

Okay guys, so the below is still happening. I Uninstalled and re installed all my drivers and all my setting have been put back down to stock. Its happening less, but still happening.

If I try to return my card to Newegg for a new one, will they know I messed with the core clock? Does that even matter?

Okay, so yesterday I overclocked my 7950s core clock to 1150MHz. Games run fine and using Heaven Benchmark runs fine. All my temps are fine.

However, every time I try to play any video, I get this:

and then once that goes away, this keeps happening until I restart(its hard to tell, but there is a line on the top of the monitor(its noticeable if you look above the Recycle Bin to the left).

This only happens to the one monitor(connected thru HDMI) my other monitor(connected thru DVI) is fine.

Is my card dead? Are there any steps I can take to try to remedy the situation?

So; I start up my machine everything works fine until I try to play a video, then the above happens. If I restart everything if fine again(games, etc) until I play a video, whether its a downloaded video or Youtube.

Maybe i should reverse my plans and get X1 this year and burn $1k on a complete new desktop next year. Instead of doing partial upgrade for $700 this year and get X1 next year.
Seems like it would offer me best bang for bucks.

I know i can't resist the new tech anyway ddr4 and 8 core intel cpu so that would mean 2 upgrades in 1 year time period kinda waste of money.

The only "problems" I can think of is that some games don't support SLI, and some are so terribly CPU bound that SLI isn't of use.

Here, let me refresh your memory:

1. SLI adds 1 frame of latency per GPU added.
2. SLI has sporadic instances of microstutter.
3. SLI makes animation rougher.
4. VSync pretty much cures 2 and 3 but adds more latency.
5. SLI adds annoying flickering visual artifacts to some compatible games like Hawken and BF3 with no solution (last I played).

Guys, I uninstalled the drivers for my old 570 and installed the ones for the 660. Games run fine but browsing online, flash videos, it's all bad, choppy. Anyone know what's going on?

1) If it does occur, it's not an issue for 99% of players, in my opinion. Only eSports professionals would need to worry with that. I personally have never noticed it, and I'm extremely sensitive to input lag and things like vsync.

4) VSync adds latency and input lag on even single-GPU systems. Also, most people with SLI don't enable VSync
5) I've never experienced that, and I have hundreds of hours invested between the two games.

What? 760 launching?

Several e-shops in Eastern Europe already has the card in the database, but out of stock (most likely awaiting shipments). There is no specifications, but they have manufacturers code:
GV-N760OC-2GD (Google the code for hopes to find any information)

The card is priced about 8-14% higher than the 660Ti. About 3-8% less than 670. I think this means that 760Ti is replaced with 760.

The latest videocardz.com nvidia graph has the 760 as a bit slower than the 670 and the graph was right about the performance of both the 770 and 780 which makes me think the 760 could possibly be faster replacement for the 660 Ti. Also, the initial articles detailing the leaks of the 780/770/760 Ti specifically mentioned the Ti part and those articles are not that old, I doubt that nvidia would have dropped the Ti suffix in such a short space of time which makes me think that the 760 is not the rumoured 760 Ti.

Andy, I had 2 Titans in SLI and a GTX 690 before that. I have extensively tested both in single and SLI configs. I think it's a fallacy to attribute the latency problem as an issue that only the esports pros will notice, because I'm not and I do notice it. Latency aside, which can be somewhat negligible when you maintain framerates above 100fps, the animation roughness without VSync is something I cannot deal with.

Even with VSync on, Tomb Raider exhibited random hitches when looking around compared to running it on a single GPU (60Hz screen).

Also Andy, let's face it, you're not going to say anything bad about SLI now are you? When peeps buying extra GPUs is good for the bottom line :)

In other news, my 3770K @ 4.6GHz and OCed Titan may prove too much for the 450Watt SFX PSU. Playing Warframe on a moderate 100MHz overclock and 25 mV over voltage shuts my system down and reboots it.

I think I'm just going to order an S3 so I can use an ATX PSU...

So should i have problems with SLI or not?

Iknow Andy is probably gonna say no but i am all ears for a second opinion.( no offense Andy )

Do the pros of going with SLI outstrip the cons as noted in that list ?

I currently have a PC with the following specs:

- I7 920 quad @ 2.67 ghz
- amd ati 5770
- 6 gb ddr ram

I don't think that I will want to replace my rig until 1-1.5 years after the launch of the next-gen consoles.

Is there any possibility to, via a relatively small investment, increase the performance of my current setup? I am aware that the graphics card was a performance/cost related concession.

Overclock that CPU. All it will cost is the cost of a good cooler like the Hyper 212 and some time.
