Killzone Shadow Fall (PS4) announced, launch title [1080p/30fps]

Not a big tech guy here, but 1080p at 30 fps? Isn't that not impressive at all? Current gen. consoles are capable of that.

They aren't for a game like this.

What's impressive about KZ is not just that it looks visually better, it's also running at over double the resolution of 99% of PS3 games. A resolution bump alone eats up a fair bit of power they have to work with.

Did Killzone 2 or 3 have suit abilities? This one quite clearly has bullet-time. Whenever he activates it, the bottom of the screen turns blue.

Uh...many? Rayman is 1080p at 60 fps.

Very, very few 3D polygonal games hit 1080P this generation, and the majority that did were either games with very simple geometry and/or downloadable games with limited scope. Certainly nothing like a game of this kind. Showcase games of this sort were lucky to run at even 720P last gen.

Looks awesome, but i wish to see an RPG type game or a fantasy game with those graphics to get really hyped :O

Finally every npc looks different, hair seems to still be an issue for next gen tho.

And nope not the capcom one, i want to believe but i can't, that thing looks so good is beyond everything i could imagine, if that game is real i..i ... nah can't be! D:

What's not impressive is that it's not THAT much of a leap above what PC gamers are seeing at this resolution or higher.

It looks nice. and 30fps I'm not as much of a stickler for as long as it's solid locked. But many people will not see a huge difference between this and PS3 tbh.

I am extremely excited about their MP. I can't wait to see the different environments in the SP, but I love GG's sense behind MP design. I can't believe MP shooters didn't copy KZ2's seamless mode transitions. No booting out and in between sessions on the same map. Also, their play with classes, progression, user connectivity, etc. all came down to an impressive final product.

E3 can't come soon enough.

To me GG has a problem with trends. They cant seem to come up with their own unique design. We all know that KZ2 was the shit because of the multiplayer, but kz3 was absolute garbage from top to bottom. And what they showed a few days ago looks like crap except for its graphics.

It looked like COD imo.
Remember when KZ2 was first shown, jaws hit the floor. When I saw KZSF I was not impressed.

I remember the first time we saw KZ2 too. I really dig the graphics but the guy playing this game is way worse than me on FPS genre (and I'm nowhere near good at it)

Er, whats in kz2 demo thats so different than cod other than graphics, they're both linear shooter with kz2 having 1st person cover mechanic and looks a bit slower. We dont get to see how it control until we tried it ourselces whan the game is released.

This demo shows a lot more gameplay mechanic than the old kz2 demo

No man, it's clearly all staged, lol! I can't believe people were really saying that

Clearly they had one pre-rendered video for the event, a second one to upload to Facebook and claim it came from the live event, and a third uncoordinated one to show on Kimmel.

Well besides the lack of meaningless explosions, instant attention grabbing atmosphere, gunplay, and overall detail. I can see how you would confuse the two.

We dont necessarily need to play it when we can clearly see whats going on onscreen.

I was just stating that KZSF reminds me of COD. The random big explosion, the dumb ass dude-bro jump off a building and latch onto a rope (instead of just throwing a grenade, yes mind blowing, I know) of a jet scene.

GG just seems to be influenced rather than innovate/do their own thing. We saw a lot of this in KZ3.

They clearly had a rendering farm backstage.

What's with this misplaced bitter snark?

People (including me) wanted confirmation if it was realtime or a target render or in engine pre recorded or something.
Noone said it couldn't possibly be real time (maybe one guy? so you all point your snark at one guy, ok then).

Also wow, GG are throwing away their marketing dollars on crap like that falcon show...
That was endlessly painful to watch.
The idiot didn't understand what the share button was, he calls himself a gamer but clearly never held a joypad before , then the bodybuilder black guy takes the controller and stares at the floor and the wall for 20 seconds while feigning enthusiasm...
Then as the (visually) best bit comes they cut the camera back to the presenters?

Guerilla people must be very unpleased with that embarrasing display.
They set up the demo just to make sure it would take them less than 20seconds to get to the rope part and they still fucked it up lol.

You do understand that Sony/GG doesn't need to advertise KZ:SF to someone who frequents a prestigious video game forum on the internet in their spare time, right?

Jimmy Fallon gets good ratings in a key demographic for the system, an audience which was probably pretty unaware that the PS4 was announced this week.

The segment wasn't made for people like you (and me) who want to know about target renders, FPS, and resolutions. It was aimed at the handful of 20 something guys in that audience that enjoy playing Call of Duty on their Xboxes.

The dude plays video games; doesn't mean that he plays them religiously anymore.

What does any of this have anything to do with what I said?
They must be paying these clowns top dollar to get their game in their show and then they blow it like this?

He tries to explain what the share button does and gets interupted by the fallon guy who then fucks up reiterating what he said.

They want to show their game and they have some clowns staring at a wall while yelling really loud and then they cut the camera away from the screen when the spectacular bit comes.

The fallon guy says he's a gamer (he's a whore - selling his opinion for money if that wasn't a clear enough description- since he clearly isn't a gamer) and for all the money his show/network gets for advertising these games he couldn't be bothered to practice using a controller for 10 minutes before the show?

Money pissed away due to amateur fratbros ruining their presentation.

It has nothing to do with the audience.

As someone else said earlier, even conan wouldn't fuck it up this bad and his target audience isn't the neogaffer either.
If GG wants to piss away money on casual audiences then at least they can pay someone who won't fuck it up like this? That is all i'm saying.

It's organic.

Someone posted a tweet after the PS Meeting that said something like "Now go talk to your wives and girlfriends about PS4 and watch their eyes glaze over".

That's exactly what happened when I tried to talk about Drive Club with my girlfriend and the same thing would have happened if they just reiterated 10 minutes of the PS Meeting on Fallon. She verbally patted me on the back and said "that's nice honey". People want to see shit blow up, people having fun, etc. And they got that across with the sillyness and screaming.

So you're saying they are marketing this to people who really couldn't care less?If some of these people got scammed into thinking it's something they enjoy it they would put down the controller within 15 seconds when they actually try it themselves because they couldn't care less.
That sounds like a sustainable way to do business and build a consumer base lol.
Even pretending that it would be effective, we are paying for this marketing when we buy the games, I don't see how it's something you can be happy about as a gamer.

Btw even the biggest idiot watching this can see right through the fakeness of their yelling and screaming. So I don't see how it would even be effective on those 'that's nice dear' housewives and retired people who couldn't give a fuck.

Again none of this has anything to do with what I said in my first post...

GG wanted to show off their game and that fallon guy only gave them 60seconds to do it then shat on those 60 seconds. 60 seconds that probably cost them a few hundred thousand dollars.
Pissed away.

You make a football that when kicked flies off and explodes into a massive fireworks display.
Yoy pay Jimmy fallon a million bucks to show it on tv and he does this with it

I tried explaining it the first time, but you're clearly set on your interpretation of the event. An interpretation steeped in quite a few completely baseless assumptions.

Maybe someone else can word it better than I did.

Wow. Reading way too much into it. I, for one, enjoyed the shouting and screaming and I think it made for better TV.

I explained myself in one sentence (twice...) , the rest was just aimed at his 'that's great dear' audience which has nothing to do with it.

One sentence =reading way too much into things, k then.

Didn't realize this until I just watched the gameplay again. Theres a ISA and Helghast city right beside each other o_O

Did I miss something from KZ3?
Sev and Rico weren't supposed to kill Visari or nuke the crap out of Helghan. To make up for it, Vekta is housing Helghast refugees. And yes, despite never showing them Helghan actually had normal civilians too. I'm excited that they are really going to dig deep into their lore they created.

I don't understands people complaining about graphics.
Man, it's a launch game and it already blows away every console title.
Yeah, it's not a jump from big pc fps max settings, but for example crysis 3 is already out, when killzone is an alpha buid. We will see titles that use the capabilities of the hardware in the next few years , not a year before the launch.

Do you remember the GDC06? Sony showed early builds of Resistance Fall of man, motorstorm, warhawk and heavenly sword. Meanwile on PC crytek was showing the first Crysis.
Today on PC there is Crysis 3, and I can clearly see the difference between today and 2006 GDC.
If launch games can match the visual quality of modern pc games I'm ok with this, because this hasn't happened last gen.

You give me a control without inverted axis Y and the same happens to me.

I'd be in the dick
Fallon has always been abysmal at playing games live. I remember when he was playing Uncharted 3 he claimed that he had been playing 2 that weekend, but couldn't figure out how to jump. He also died looking at the ocean in Killzone 3. Hulst's face was priceless when that happened.
