WWDC12 Thread of iOS 6, Mac OS X Mountain Lion and iCloud

Haha it is really terrible. Its critical for my work so I had to resurrect this old PC of mine. It still sucks since I will be in PROCESSING for the rest of my life on apples site apparently.
I bet it worth it. :)

I bough the Sony vaio t13 with the free ps3 promotion the other day. So hopefully I can test this out and get some profits out of it. What I'm really afraid of is the buyer giving me a hard time by changing their mind and want to return it.

Haha I sent a friend request the other day to Craig Frederici (the guy who is in charge of OS X) after seeing his Game Center name in the WWDC conference and he accepted.

GAH! Still processing!

I'm using my new MacBook Air and I'm loving every minute of it.

So what's the deal with the Mountain Lion Up-To-Date request? How do I make the "request"?

As mentioned earlier on twitter, the added support for Bluetooth MAP suggests that Bluetooth devices (such as the Pebble smart watch) will be able to get SMS data from the phone.

There's been some discussion on MacRumors and elsewhere about new MBPR not being able to drive all the UI transitions smoothly :( Especially with built in intel 4000. Things like going in and out of full screen mode in apps, and even just two finger scrolling in safari being laggy and jumpy. Apparently forcing the discrete GPU helps some but does not eliminate the problem in higher resolutions (simulated 1650x and 1920x) I was dead set on buying the base model of this thing but this is making me reconsider. I don't want to end up with another 1st gen Air which started off a bit laggy like that on Tiger, only to become practically unusable by the time Snow Leopard rolled out.

This is apparently what things look like when using intel 4000 which is what OS uses by default: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VvaaLAfISU

This kind of crap is exactly what I was worried about. I wonder if things would be better with more expensive 2.6GHz model.

Hey guys, I have the option to buy a new Macbook Air 2011 for $900. Do you think I should spring for it or just go all the way to the 2012? Will I see a huge difference in performance? Resale value?

1st noticeable issue with my Retina MB Pro...just put my old v 2.0.2 Twitter App on the machine and my god the text looks terrible...I guess old apps are really going to be a problem at first

TwIsTeD, would you mind doing the iPhoto fullscreen in/out test like in that video and see if it looks as choppy as there? Then if it does, try forcing discrete GPU, restoring mating and try it again?

all old apps will be a problem.

only updated apps will be acceptable.
Not all - I think only those that use custom text rendering engine. Everything that goes through OSX text API should at least end up with text looking great, even if icons don't.

You are correct. If you used the standard API, you're good to go outside your non scalable/vector images. If you used something that could scale, you have absolutely nothing to do. On the game side, people have pretty much started ditching fixed pixel icons and such just to avoid the PITA of having to resize them everytime you get a new device (though granted this is mostly for Android issues where its like people just shit out a new resolution every 3 days).

I think it has something to do with the app...its slightly noticeable regardless.

I hate the new versions of the Twitter app but will now have to update.

On a side note only Google Chrome Canary supports high res text for 3rd party browsers...but honestly as of right now Safari is just fine until Google catches up. Tomorrow i`m putting Win 8 on board and giving it a go with some Battlefield 3 action

There's some reports of people saying that scrolling appears laggy on graphics intensive pages in Safari, yet in new Canary it's all much smoother.

I'm just worried that the machine is filtrate constricted when the OS is using embedded GPU. I like expose and other such things to be as smooth as possible.

Nice that Chrome is getting a retina version asap, but...

I had to repair my Windows partition today. It's not even funny how much better Chrome is for Windows. Damn it Google!

Its interesting how owning a Retina MB at this moment feels very "bleeding edge" with software modifications required to take advantage of the new display.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Mountain Lion has a reworked graphics rendering system, and is much smoother than Lion on my ~3 year old system. I expect that this is generally the case with this new MBP as well.

Actually thinking about it some more the latest version of Chrome for OS X has been pretty crashy.

Chrome is faster and better extensions.
Definitely pretty much everyone who notices the scrolling lag on new MBP retina under Safari has been saying that the lag is non-existent with newest Chrome Canary at least.

It's definitely been recently. I suspect the newer builds of flash may have something to do with it. However, there are some things that seem specific to the program itself.

You know what kind of sucks?

I have ~1.5GB of wallpapers that I loved saved on my current computer (Windows desktop) right now....and none of them will be big enough to fit my new MBP.

FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU :(

Part of the reason I am not really considering getting one is because it does seem like a machine weirdly ahead of its time. There just aren't enough software assets out there to take advantage of that display. I'll be happy to wait for devs to catch up and for the retina panel to show up on the Air.

Same :(

I think it's going to be a while for me too:

It's going to be such a long two weeks...

Still debating whether to get one. My gaming computer barely gets used these days. I have an iPad 3 and iPhone 4 right now (upgrading to a 5 this fall)

I don't really see the need for my iPad if I get a MBP again though. Anyone to convince me otherwise?

Indeed its very bizarre and I cant recall the last time a mainstream retail product did seem this out of place

My Air replaced my iPad until the 3rd gen came out....now my Retina probably wont replace my iPad....I absolutely love using it but for some reason the size stands out alot while laying in bed or out in public, its not heavy or bulky just kinda big...the screen is so massive and beautiful it makes people glance over at it more than usual and for some reason it doesn't feel private.

The iPad is a good compliment to it but the Retina probably wont replace it

I find it hard to believe the HD4000 isn't capable of handling those transitions, that looks bad. I'm sure mountain lion will do something to fix them or remove/make them lighter

This is absolutely one of those times where waiting for next year's model will pay off tenfold.

Hmmmn. The verge battery and heat results are a little bit of a downer. I was trying to justify this and go "all apple" since I own a iPhone 4 and iPad 3 already but it'll have to wait.

I'll see how win8 hybrids work out along with fall phone refreshes. Ultimately, I'm getting a little tired of 2 platforms and would like to converge.

I'll say it again: It's really going to pay off to wait for Haswell with this one.

I was convinced to get the Macbook Pro (13" 2.5 GHz)... but I see I can get the retina one for €2000.. (like 250 euro student discount) man this choise is killing me!

GAF, I have to buy the retina one... do I need to?

I'm actually thankful that Apple didn't release a 13" version of the MacBook (Pro or Air) with the Retina display. If they had, I don't think there would be anyway I could resist. Now I'm in the same boat as others here. I'll gladly wait and reap the benefits down the line. :)

My MBP-R switched to Preparing for Shipment... I hope it quickly continous to Shipped.
I ordered app. 2 - 3h after the store went online again.

Edit: MBP-R and 80€ Giftcard will merge in Prague, CZ I guess my MBP-R is en route to Prague then.

Is the haswell going to have better GPU than the 650M? Because if the reports of this problem (laggy scrolling) are true, it happens even with 650M being forced. I just can't imagine that being the bottleneck, so I wonder if it's just something software based after all.

People said the same thing last year about ivy bridge when sandy bridge was out. Next year will always be better.
Basically yeah. It's a whole damn year of waiting. By then I might save up for the next best thing anyway, especially if the current one can be sold for a lot.

last year's MBP lineup didn't have this strange beast though. It's not worth waiting if you just want one of the regular MBPs, this is specifically for the retina model.

I just realized the MacBook Pro branding is gone from the bezel...it's been throwing me off since I first saw the press images.

Before Tobor has a chance to rub it in my face:

During today’s WWDC keynote, Apple gave some demos of the sharing features in the next versions of their desktop and mobile operating systems, including deep Facebook integration in iOS 6. One thing they didn’t mention, however, was the same Facebook integration for the Mac. As it turns out, there’s a good reason for that. The version of 10.8 that launches next month will not support Facebook.

According to a tiny banner hidden on Apple’s OS X Mountain Lion website, Facebook integration won’t be available in OS X until this fall. Conveniently, that’s the same timeframe given for the iOS 6 release, and the presumed timeframe of the next iPhone launch.

Oddly, Mountain Lion Developer Preview 4, released earlier this evening, does contain full Facebook integration. Why Apple chose to omit this feature from the shipping version is a mystery, since it seems to be functioning well in its current form. Perhaps Apple’s agreement with Facebook is to launch all integration in fall. For example, iOS 6 launches in the fall.
