WOW. I've never played Shadow of the Colossus, but that is some powerful stuff!

There are but two or three games I say this for:

You MUST play this game. It completely changed me as a gamer, and if you think the awe-inspiring soundtrack is good, you need to see the context of the gameplay when it's playing.

^As for a Demon's Soul character, I thought the same thing, but figured it'd be a waste of space simply because of a lack of name recognition. A Demon's Soul's stage would fit right in, especially a boss as an environmental hazard. Again, Wanderer is the Link of PlayStation, his bow & arrow and sword are a fun combo for a fighting game and there is so much potential with his supers.

Shadow of the Colossus needs a stage, let us be riding on top of a flying colossus.

It would be criminal to not have this as a stage.

As awesome as that is, I wouldn't put money on it. As iconic as Ico and SOTC were, I think the lack of The Last Guardian is going to deter the developers from putting in a SOTC or Ico reference.

Even if it would be awesome.

Regardless of the mess that has been TLG's development, Team Ico's games are far too iconic to ignore. It would be like ignoring Drake or Kratos.

There definitely needs to be at least one stage, though you could easily make an argument for both games getting one. The windmill from Ico is pretty iconic, but fighting on the back of the flying colossus would be too brilliant to ignore. Hmm... maybe they could combine them? Have the flying colossus fly by the castle Ico takes place in?

And although I still don't think Wander or Ico could really contribute much as playable characters, I think they deserve a character as well. Some people have suggested the Dark Queen from Ico, which fills the villain and female roles. I still like my idea for a scaled down colossus, but that may just be my personal preference for big heavy characters.

Maybe they could have the
bull-thingy
colossi. It was probably the smallest one in the game.

I wasn't quite so convinced I could imagine Wander working in the game, but...

Lv. 1: Uses his sword to catch the sunlight (much like when he uses it to find his way/vital points) to hurt/stun enemies.
Lv. 2: Summons Agro who charges across
the stage and hits anyone on ground level.
Lv.3: Transforms into his (SPOILER)
Dormin-possessed
form and tears shit up before being sucked back into the light.

^ This would actually make a lot of sense. Hearing him shout "Agro!" when he calls Agro would be awesome, although I think calling a Colossus down to wipe the field might be a bit more tasteful than spoiling the game every time he charges up to level 3.

Alternatively, wasn't there a picture of Yorda up on a computer screen in one of the studio photos? Yorda, even acknowledging Fat Princess, is probably the closest thing to a Peach or Zelda Playstation has. It would be adorable hearing her talk in her made-up language, and would also add another female to a roster that is sorely in need of them. Her supers could involve summoning/exploding one of those magic blocks, calling Ico for help (and watching him comically bat opponents away), and her final could be turning dark and casting a huge spell.

The nice thing about the Team Ico games is all the potentially interesting things they could do with them to build stages, so even if we don't get a character we'll almost certainly see them around. How cool would it be if Yorda and Ico wandered through a stage as a hazard, and if anyone touched Yorda they'd proceed to get bludgeoned by Ico? Or a Colossus stage that went something like Pokefloats, where you fight on the backs of several Colossi as the stage moves around?

Big Daddy was a genuine surprise to me, so I'm hoping we get some more curve balls in future announcements. Some PSX love would be great, but I'd be happy to get some more love for the Japanese series too, especially since we only have PaRappa in both departments. The stranger the better!

That's right, we saw them modeling Yorda in one of the office cams. I don't she'll be a playable character though. My bet is that she'll show up in the background a ICO themed stage.

As much as Yorda's supes sound good especially ICO bashing everyone for hurting her xD But I just don't see her as a fighter. She's so fragile and innocent.

They have to include SoTC somehow in the game. ICO is semi-confirmed from this image a member in this thread made way back.

So many good characters can be plucked from Demon's Souls.

  • Biorr of The Twin Fangs
  • Garl Vinland
  • Miralda the Executioner
  • Ostrava of Boletaria
  • Satsuki
  • Yuria the Witch

Never happening, but anything Demon's Souls in this game will make me spas out.

Am I the only one who treats the Team ICO games like sacred cows? :/

It's not even that i'm not feeling it, but it just doesn't feel right to me is all. Like the wrong TPO.

I rather have Shadow of Colossus be a sort of stage instead, maybe make a mash up with demon's soul

Sounds like a match made in heaven but it might be combined with something like uncharted. The only stage thats totally random is the god of war/ratchet stage, the others at least all have something in common or mesh well.

Since there's been complaints about the bland UI (it's probably placeholder but whatevs), I doodled this:

Wow, that makes the game's UI look much better in comparison.
I kid, I kid! it's good.

Looks really good except that I loathe character wheels, they don't give you a good overlook of all the characters and I hate navigating them. This could be the selection-screen to the singleplayer campaign otherwise.

I wanted to steer away from the cliche tile layout but I guess you don't fix what ain't broke. Favourites/filters options could help but they'll only help people who have already played the game I guess.

What I'd really be down for is a comprehensive tutorial mode. I suck ass at fighters; I've always wanted to get into to them but I've been scared off. Although this probably isn't as "deep" as SF etc etc, something to help get me up to speed would be great. Maybe they'll cover this in the story mode.

Fat Princess and Parappa are already pretty WTF characters who aren't known for fighting, and Sweet Tooth is basically the same situation as Captain Falcon.

I'm personally kinda hoping for Robbit from Jumping Flash.

If they wanna get really WTF, they could get Vibri from Vib Ribbon.

If you ignore the obscurity factor, Robbit would be an ideal choice for Battle Royale. Jumping Flash! was there for the PSOne launch, Robbit was one of the earliest candidates for console mascot and all three games (1, 2 and Robbit Mon Dieu) haven't appeared outside a Sony system. Being a hefty-sized mech, he could be one of the more laborious-moving characters like Big Daddy, but with a handy knack of evading attacks quickly via the use of his triple jump. Throw in the vast array of attacks at his disposal - his dual rockets can fire cherry bombs, rockets, roman candles, laser beams - and you've got yourself a character practically made for an all-star brawler. Obscurity be damned.

Vibri I'm really hoping will make the cut as well, but she's a more difficult character to conjure up a move set for. Maybe Superbot can make use of how she can transform into an angel, frog or worm, but I dunno... that would be a tricky one.

And anyone who has never played Vib Ribbon owes it to himself to listen to this song...

YES! So this! Both of these things need to be in this game.

Though how awesome would it be if a Colossus came in and attacked the field of play like the Hydra, and this kicked in:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DggH6CReCNA

No. If there is a Colossus stage, a majority, if not all, of the time would have to take place on one of the colossus's backs. That is what that game is about.

How about it all taking place on one of the flying ones, and mash it up with having some warhawks come in and start fighting with it?

I thought it'd be fun to go through the Sony owned IP list on wikipedia and organize it into something more readable relating to this game by sorting it by (subjective) relevancy.

Link

Funny thing is I was going through that at multiple times after the game was officially confirmed. They have so much to pool from, I really hope the actual Sony owned stuff outnumbers the third party stuff. To compare, SSB is almost entirely Nintendo owned stuff. I think Big Daddy looks awesome and everything, I just hope there are more representatives from Sony's owned IP rosters to really show off the varied library they've had.

Also I'm not letting this ring out topic die. I still really dislike there's no ring outs. I know it's been asked and discussed before but are stage environmental deaths (like the fish) actually confirmed, like from Omar or whatever? If that's possible it's at least a step in the right direction.

Also I think this was my post that made me a member! WOOO! Most of my posts were in this thread hahaha.

I forgot about the existence of the Genji games, I know they aren't that popular but if they can't add Cyborg Ninja Raiden at least let there be a Samurai

Also, Folklore would be nice as well. They need a loco roco stage (would be great to mix with patapon but that's take already)

Regardless of how well it sells, I think Sony would do really well to have a sequel of this game as a pack in with PS4. With the way Playstation exclusives haven't been able to gain much popular traction, I think this would be an absolutely perfect thing to have as an introduction to a bunch of franchises for everyone who buys a PS4. Plus, I think the ability of pack-ins to sell systems has been pretty underrated- especially when the game likely includes a character that the buyer is already familiar with.

I don't think cross over games should have the norm dev cycle like all other games. Games like PABR are a celebration of ips and should get a sequel when many more ips are added to the portfolio. Obviously not a 10 year gap like marvel vs capcom 2 to marvel vs capcom 3, but 3-5 years should be the minimum imo.

Changing my whole post so it's on topic.

The sequel should definitely be on PS4. It shouldn't be milked, it will just sell worse.

A game like this should only have one iteration each gen (just like ssb). If they want to increase the longevity they can add more content through updates and DLC.

I can't add much to Drencrom's comment, but I have to agree. I'm thinking that if Nintendo couldn't pull off DLC, Sony can. Sorry, I'm finding it hard to talk about this game without comparing Sony to Nintendo.

Well I guess that means no health meter/mode confirmed...To simple for my tastes

http://youtu.be/Lh1ieHmcl8w

Well, it was confirmed the main mode is the super only, super meter only KO timed mode, if that makes sense. I think a lot of us were all hoping for at least an optional health or damage based mode, but this rules that out. Now the main thing is seeing if there's any ring outs, even though it seems this isn't going to happen either.

Right now I'm trying to think of the game more of a mix of a traditional 2D fighter and SSB now, considering there's no ring outs, but the super only system definitely changes the formula up.

Also, that video has some great background audio, I'm no longer worried that the characters' voices are too muted. I was constantly hearing them yell stuff.

Sony copied the game concept, they should also copy the sales tactics. LOL. Make fans crave for the next game, then they will buy it in droves. It works for Smash Bros; the sales grow with each iteration.

I fricking LOVE the OST of Shadow of the Colossus.

This should be the main theme for PBR. The music that plays at the character and stage select screen. Lol.

But yeah, if a Colossus shows up during the windmill stage, this track HAS to kick in. It just has to...

Yeah, people love when new games are released when they could have been DLC.

If they were changing the mechanics of the game, I could understand. Brawl plays slower than Melee and (obviously) has significant graphical differences. But the Wii doesn't have much DLC utilization. Is there even DLC on the Wii store? I think people would be angry that they would release a new game instead of making it DLC.

Same here. One thing I absolutely hated about the press con was the terrible, TERRIBLE music in the beginning of the All-Stars trailer. Am I the only person who felt this way? How cheap are those samples they're using? Dear god, it was like hearing a trumpet being blown from within a hippo's ass.

I SINCERELY hope they change that music to something that's epic and appropriate for how glorious this cross over is. The music from the beginning of the trailer was just uninspired and lame in my opinion.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5BLgycbUog
This is the trailer I speak of in case you guys didn't notice the terrible music, or haven't heard it clearly yet. Also, wtf at that like/dislike ratio. We need to start spreading the likes around despite how terrible that music in the beginning is.

That music reminds me of something from like a super cheesy outdated cartoon like Johnny Quest or something when a villain comes out.

LOL! That is a Justice song of their Cross album called Genesis. Trailer music not game music.

Oh thank you, thank you thank you!!! Dear God I was worried that they were actually considering using that as the theme. The rest of the song is actually pretty cool, I thought they were two separate song clips because the intro sounds so TERRIBLE to me. Like holy shit those samples sound bad.

I literally find it almost painful that they sound so bad to me, I'm not an advanced composer but I have composed some stuff for my game design classes before and the samples I used were of the best quality I could find/afford
quantum leap samples
. I usually prefer stuff with optimal production quality and or samples/instruments as well so.. blech.

Don't be stupid, I wasn't talking about yearly releases like Capcom.

...You're stupid.

YES! Score one for me!

I get your point. I'm trying to say that because the PS3 has the capability to utilize DLC, people would want them to use it. Mind you, people would want the characters to be zero dollars or less, but I think people would be more comfortable downloading characters than having to wait for a new game to come out.

Brawl players don't have a choice. PAS players do.

The Getaway and Moto Toon Grand Prix aren't really one offs since both games got a sequel. Moto Toon Grand Prix was quite popular in Japan iirc. Other than that a nice list!

I really hope that at least one of Sony's RPG IPs will be represented in the game, even if it's White Knight Chronicles.

I want Patapon to be present in some playable form so bad!

I completely forgot about LocoRoco, it seems like an obvious addition.

I agree with you completely, but man, I just think it'd be such a great idea to have this as a pack in.

(you were being sarcastic for the wrong reason) I also get your point, but if people love a game so much, then they don't mind waiting for a sequel a couple of years later. Of course this sequel should be fundamentally different so that it doesn't make the previous game completely obsolete. Let's say they release 6 DLC characters for the first game and a couple of years later, they announce the sequel, but it only has 10 or so new characters. What would be a better bulletpoint: 10 new characters or 16 new characters?

That is, _if_ they're planning a sequel. I guess it depends on the sales whether one will be made or not. If there won't be one, then an expansion pack would be the best solution.

We're talking about Sony, though. It's best to stay skeptical.

Ah, I see your point. I'd rather have 16 new characters as opposed to 10, you are correct. Although I've always thought that more characters = better fighting game, as long as they all have distinct play styles. Changed my mind. I'd rather have a whole new game, although a handful of DLC characters wouldn't hurt this game, I don't think. Maybe multi-platform characters?
