Thing is, would Superbot put in so much effort for one character like that?

I would. If I was president of Sony. I would remove Playstation Home, in order to switching to Sackboy Friends to battle against Mii and Avatar.

Also it would be worthy to make him more dynamic character by absorbing their hat or features with one move. I know clone of Kirby, but Sackboy have potential.

In what way could sackboy be the kirby of this game? Sackboy really only uses the costumes as decoration and nothing else, contrary to kirby who actually absorbs his enemies to use their powers.

I guess he COULD be made to use his enemies powers but that would be going apart from the original character, I think Sackboy could have enough abilities of his own from the gadgets he uses in LBP2.

Yeah, the Sackboy costume idea is cool but nothing like that happens in LBP. Maybe they could pull it off, but he'd easily have plenty of moves with standard slaps, the popit, the various guns and the grappling hook.

By that logic Solid Snake shouldn't have been in SSBB.

Snake is a weird fit in Smash since he's never really had a big presence on Nintendo consoles, but Cloud represents a massive betrayal of a third-party that helped push many other third-parties over the edge into ditching the N64.

Final Fantasy was already a major series that was historically exclusive to Nintendo consoles and had been shown off as an N64 tech demo before they switched development to the PS1. Metal Gear wasn't even a very big series before MGS and had no real historical connection to Nintendo consoles, just a crappy port and a crappy original game for the NES.

While they both represent the success of Sony, Cloud also represents the downfall of Nintendo.

My biggest worry was about Sackboy not being in the game, so I really hope Superbot figured out a way to add him as a character.

I think Sackboy is pretty much guaranteed in, so I wouldn't worry. It shouldn't be hard to figure out a move set for him. He uses plenty of gadgets in the single player levels, he could use the Popit to spawn things - which presents pretty much limitless possibilities - and of course there's the aforementioned Kirby idea.

You may be setting yourself up for disappointment if you are gonna treat this game as some type of a historical record of PlayStation history.

The inclusion of Cloud in this game makes more sense than Sora.

Indeed. VII is -THE- PS1 game for many, and if it's about paying homage to Sony's stars, third parties included, it's a no-brainer.

I wonder if there's gonna be a WTF character. Ya guys think they may place a character not known for fighting, a la Captain Falcon?

I saw Drake hit the edge and bounce back.

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUBQ8r-ll8U

Looks like the characters stop at the edge.

Now that I'm on board with the KO system, one thing I really wish they reconsidered is ring outs, but after hearing Omar saying they're definitely not doing that, I guess I should just give up now. It seems they really are limiting it to only supers for KOs, period, nothing else.

The Jak level is a perfect example of it - you could let people get rung out if they get knocked outside the area's limits, instead there's an invisible wall on each side... curse invisible walls..

Final edit: I just feel like Drake's face is off. I can't explain why, it just doesn't look right. Am I crazy?

I think both Nathan and Kratos look bland.

Speculation time: Say there are a possibility that atleast 1 character from each major publisher will make an appearance, who will make the cut??

Ubisoft: Ezio
Square: Cloud
Capcom: Dante/Ryu
Namco: Jin
Ea: Isaac
Activision: Crash
Valve: P-Body and Atlas
Warner Bros: Scorpion
Konami: Snake

Ubisoft: Ezio or Connor
Square: Sephiroth
Capcom: Jill Valentine
Namco: Jin
Ea: Isaac
Activision: Crash
Valve: P-Body and Atlas
Warner Bros: Batman
Konami: Snake
Take 2: Big Daddy
Rockstar: CJ or Tommy Vercetti

Fat Princess and Parappa are already pretty WTF characters who aren't known for fighting, and Sweet Tooth is basically the same situation as Captain Falcon.

I'm personally kinda hoping for Robbit from Jumping Flash.

If they wanna get really WTF, they could get Vibri from Vib Ribbon.

Crash, Snake, and one of the AC dudes are the only ones I agree with here. The rest are nopes.

The weird thing is, Drake's portrait at the bottom is perfect, and I feel like Kratos looks great, while his portrait looks insanely bland, like it's the portrait of a cosplayer or something weird. Maybe it's that whole thing where footage is looking hazy/washed out, while people playing it in person are really satisfied with the color and way the game pops.

Also, Drake has a zip line move, to get back to a platform? Come on, that's just teasing. If characters have actual recovery moves, why even bother walling off the levels? Sigh..

I've taken a big interest in this game over the past week or so. I guess it's mostly to do with the fact I grew up with the OG PlayStation as apposed to the Nintendo/Sega era like the majority of GAF (I'm bias; get at me). When it was first revealed, I, like many of you, was cynical about Sony's attempt at a mascot mash-up brawler, but the positive impressions and the potential this title has has drawn me in.

Personal wishlist time!

Wander (Shadow of the Colossus)

Fav game ever, etc. Obvious sword attacks for close-up encounters and his bow for mid/long range stuff. For Supers, I'm thinking:

Lv. 1: Uses his sword to catch the sunlight (much like when he uses it to find his way/vital points) to hurt/stun enemies.
Lv. 2: Summons Agro who charges across
the stage and hits anyone on ground level.
Lv.3: Transforms into his (SPOILER)
Dormin-possessed
form and tears shit up before being sucked back into the light.

I'm on my phone right now, but I'll post some more later. I really hope that Sony/Superbot digs deep and brings out some stuff that hasn't been seen for a while (I think someone mentioned Jen from Primal a page or two back).

Hopefully this will end up being the SSB for the Sony kids like myself.

I just hope none of you flood in here with hate comments when Cloud or Sephiroth don't make it in. I'll be more than happy to eat my words later on if I'm wrong, but set realistic expectations. We don't need another train wreck up in here.

If they do bring Cloud in, make it lego Cloud or bust.

Ringouts causing KO's wouldn't work at all in this game. If someone is sent flying it is because the move the person used was designed to make them do so. For example say I used Forward Triangle and it sent your character flying and you died. I could just wait till you re spawn and use the same move again because it was designed to make you go flying everytime I use it. Smash on the other hand differs where every move can potentially send you flying but it all depends on how much damage you have taken.

I do agree with you however on the invisible walls thing I hope they address that

Alright I have a good question for people who have played it:

Does Drake's and Colonel Radec's cover summoning thingy work as a down+block? If so, then that's AWESOME! If it's a special move or something, so lame. I can only see it working as a down+block. I noticed Drake shooting from cover in one of the gameplay vids so that actually got me excited to see it more in action.

Also an edit:

True thinking about it now, it won't make any sense if there's no health or damage system, now we're back to square one. I mean, they could go off of how much damage and knockback each move does but.. it'll be hard to balance it without people just going for ring outs. That's one of the things Omar was really sticking to in interviews, they're not going for ring outs at all.

I could be alone in this but I like not having ring outs, though I do think it would be awesome to have an optional mode where those were possible. However, watching the videos there is great tension built up seeing a player getting close to a Level 3 Super and others are holding onto 1's and 2's and you are just waiting to see who can time their super and who can counter. Ring outs would completely degrade the value, strategy, and tension built from having Supers. Also Ring Outs could cause even more lopsided fights where one person is getting a lot of ring outs and building meter and then unleashes a Super for even more kills. Not having ring outs I feel tightens up the match and creates a lot more drama if you will.

Again I could be alone in that, but I feel ring outs would do nothing but help the best players. Rich getting richer, poor getting poorer sort of thing.

Which Chimera would you like in this game?
IIRC Chimera is more like a parasitic thing that doesn't exist in one practical form or another, so the potential for transforming it into interesting stuff for specials is pretty good I think. There are the little rolling critters, big huge chimera monsters, etc that he could transform into.

As for the character itself, I'd just want one of the familiar Chimera from Resistance: Fall of Man with a bullseye. The image we all associate with Chimera (which I believe is a converted human soldier lore wise?). Light attack could be something with the bullseye, and for heavy attack he could use the auger which would be a slow shot, but can move through objects and hit multiple people.

I agree it does make the matches look a lot more intense and frantic compared to SSB. I think it's something I'm REALLY used to in SSBB matches because most of my friends are insanely skilled at that game, the matches are almost PURELY fighting for control of an edge or something and knocking people off and taking advantage of the situation. This game will eliminate that.

Hmm... now that I think about it, I actually really like this set up now, it's the best of both worlds in terms of 2D fighters. Frantic, 4 player fighting and a focus on skill and fun, not controlling ground like in SSB.

So many useless 3rd party characters would just kill the game for me, Im not even happy about Big Daddy using up a character slot but as long his the only random one it's ok.

If any Final Fantasy characters make it in, I understand Cloud and Sephiroth being obvious...but I think a Moogle would be really cool. Vivi is probably one of my favorite characters, but a Moogle would sort of represent the whole series. Although I'm not sure what moves it would have.

Cloud and/or Sephiroth would make a difference in sales though.

We have enough characters with guns unless they go with what u say and make with morph into different enemy types. It could be cool if they put Daedalus or Leviathan

Any bets on a Colossus being a stage?

As awesome as that is, I wouldn't put money on it. As iconic as Ico and SOTC were, I think the lack of The Last Guardian is going to deter the developers from putting in a SOTC or Ico reference.

Even if it would be awesome.

That is a very good question.
In a machinima interview they said that they consider PBR a franchise and want to continue it because that's all they know. So hopefully this means they take the title very seriously and give us a worthy new IP that lives up to expectations.

Wander as a playable character, the windmill pond area as a playable stage.

And you know how everyone joked about having a playable Skyline as a fighter? Well why don't we have the High Speed Ring as a playable stage, and instead of normal cars, we have ships from Wipeout racing around on it instead?

BOOM

If SuperBot was hand picked to make this game, what are they doing after they finish PABR?

I'd love for them to make a sequel then grow enough as a studio in which they can house two teams and then make a new IP fighting game. Basically become Sony's Fighting Dev and they can juggle IP's kinda like Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica

Would be awesome to have a colossus attack, I really think Wanderer is a perfect fighting character. It'd be a massive blow if he doesn't make it in.

I am curious as to what the other modes are, I know there is a stock mode, and a tag team mode, but I hope we see some other ones. I am very curious about SP and really hope that they can include some of the fun mini-game concepts from SSB.

I rather have Shadow of Colossus be a sort of stage instead, maybe make a mash up with demon's soul
