Playstation All Stars Battle Royale Discussion thread [Up: Leakfest #11]

SCEJ's franchises tend to have revolving leads so it's difficult to pin some down that definitely should be in this game. Specter, or a Piposaru should be there for Ape Escape. If they somehow grab Crash they've got some bank-ability there. But yeah, Sony should be calling up SQenix for that Crrroudu.
Cole is there.
If they are only going with one character per game, that's not surprising.
New School Crash, Paul Phoenix, Sora, Ezio, Lightening. should be replaced by:
- Old School Crash not a mix!
- Jennifer Tate because awesome move list and needs more female characters.
- Rose from Dragoon, again unique move list.
- Toro Inoue. How could SuperBot forget him!?
- Rikimaru or Ayami from Tenchu. Ninja's Goddamn it!

nice to know!oh, and quick question. was the glowing aura of the characters (when the have their supers) annoying? like, as you were playing, would you constantly notice it? soooo annoying for me.

I barely noticed the super glow when I played. Some of the effects are crazy good looking, though. I think it triggers when you get a higher tier super, but there's some blue glow stuff sorta similar to XMB's background that looks subtle but gorgeous.
Yes of course Dark Cloud series needs to be represented as well. Also Rogue Galay. Screw turning this game into 3rd party cross promotion BS, it's meant to be a nostalgia love letter and that's what it should be.

I'd be fine with it to if they didn't hype it as being a celebration of Playstation. They need to figure out if they want it to be that or if they want it to be a bunch of recognizable names that may or may not mean anything to the brand.
There are plenty of Sony Japan characters that should be in, but I was mainly talking about third party characters. I think it's pretty sad that Big Daddy is in while there's very little chance that a character like Kiryu will make it. He really is a character that you associate with the brand as he's only appeared in games on PS platforms.

I didn't particularly notice the glowing aura, at least around my own character, as I was always looking at the other characters (so I could ruin their shit, of course. Lol). I didn't really pay it any mind, and it didn't look bad to me anyway. I liked it as a quick indicator of when my new super was ready, so I didn't have to keep looking away from the action to look at my meter (which I did anyway, as stated below).
I was also glancing at the meter, to see which characters had supers, so I could either avoid them, or try and keep them from pulling their off by attacking them.
One of my biggest problems, is that I never blocked. It's an issue for me with every fighting game. I'm such an offensive player, that I often forget to block and use the evades that often come with it. Lol.
I just started watching that 13 minute video posted above, and I thought it was really funny how the interviewers seemed kind of snarky and smartass at the beginning, but once they started actually playing the game, they seemed to really begin enjoying themselves and having a good time. The trash talking the guy playing Sweet Tooth was spewing was notable, especially when he got owned by Kratos while talking shit about taking him out. Lol.
It's one of those games that the naysayers will continue to bitch about, but a few of them will eat crow once they actually play it, and see it's just good fun.
I was never skeptical, but playing it certainly cemented my purchase.
The list is, while seemingly realistic, fake. When asked about the source the TC merely said it was a rumor, refusing to give one. Only saying that the same thing happened to Brawl's dojo site. He's basically riding on what happened that time. The mods over there really need to get to work, it's a damn mess but whatever.
Keep in mind, Paul Gale said that the team doesn't actually know how big the roster will be. Which may or may not be taking DLC characters into consideration.

It could also be because some of us actually LIKE the female characters in the PlayStation universe?
I love Nariko, and think Heavenly Sword was one of the most criminally underrated games this gen.
Same goes for Folklore. Ellen or Keats would be great additions to the cast. I'd prefer Ellen, though, because her cloaks could be alternate skins. And then, when you realize that each character in PBR has 24 moves, Ellen's moveset becomes potentially godly, as there are so many different Folks they could use to represent that series perfectly (and her block on L1 could easily be the Folk that puts up a shield to block. Lol).
Monica from Dark Cloud 2 is a fun character, and much more interesting than Max (I still love you, Max!).
I'm not terribly familiar with Legend of Dragoon (only played a little bit of it, but will snag it once PS1 BC hits the Vita).
I loved Primal, and not including Jen would be a horrible oversight. She's a really cool character, and she'd bring a fun and unique moveset to PBR.
It's not just about having tits and ass to represent the female component, to me. It's about not ignoring the fact that PlayStation has a strong stable of female leads that shouldn't be ignored.
I'd also prefer Ashe from FFXII to Lightning or even Cloud. Although, Tifa could be really awesome to rep FFVII. After using her in Dissidia 012, she's such a badass fighter, with a cool, melee style that would make her deadly at close range. Cloud is great, and has a sword, but I think Tifa more's unique combat wise. Some of her moves in Dissidia 012 are just godly.
What I find really funny is that so many of the haters for this game make jokes about how Sony doesn't have enough characters to fit in this game, while PlayStation fans, many of which grew up on PlayStation, or have been there since day one, are having a hard time trying to fit all of the characters they want into the game because there are so many.
I'd prefer Specter over Spike, if only because he's an evil, super intelligent monkey...
I'd also prefer Naked Snake to Old Snake. I think Big Boss is more iconic to the MG series, but Old Snake is visually pretty awesome, and his Octocamo could be a cool game play element.
EDIT: Also, how about we refrain from having meltdowns about the character roster until the full line up is revealed? We've only seen 8 characters. Big Daddy was a surprise nobody expected to be true. I'm with-holding judgment until the full roster is revealed. Even so, as much as I hate to admit it, the DLC potential for this game is strong. It almost has a LittleBigPlanet level of possibility in terms of releasing "series packs" featuring 2 or 3 characters from series with strong PlayStation roots like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, etc.
Also, I love Dante, but man, Viewtiful Joe would be such a great fit, despite premiering on the Gamecube. His look and moveset would be fun (his Level 3 super could even slow the game down, turning the screen into a film reel, with only Joe moving super fast to get in kills).

Not even its own stage, lol. It gets a cameo in the Jak & Daxter stage.
They'd have to tone her "features" down a bit for the kids, but seriously that's a rad suggestion.

Clearly the men out number the women so it'd be nice if they could get some more women in. Salvaria or Alicia would be really nice to have.

I'm going to be PO'd if guys like Paul and Lightning make it in, but not characters like Sephiroth, Wanderer, and Max/Monica. I generally do not want to see any fighting game characters in the game at all, as they are more poster boys for their respective games than they are to the Sony brand.
Three things lacking:
-Japanese characters
-Evil characters
-Female characters
It sounds to good to happen, but I really want to see Sony show some love to Dark Cloud and Shadow, and I really think a FF7 character is a must.
What do you guys think of 6 player support?

Well there is allready Radec, Kratos, Drake, Sweet Tooth and Big Daddy so thats over half of current roster.
joking aside there is allready 3 baddies if you count ST so they definately are represented atm.

Woo, come on Chimera. As disappointing as the Resistance franchise became, Resistance: Fall of Man will always have a special place in my heart.
As for Battle Royale...the demo left me somewhat underwhelmed. I love the concept, and I'm still open to it, but it just wasn't particularly interesting to watch. It seemed like it was missing one extra layer or something.

Wow, for some reason I forgot about my most favoured character, Radec... I always counted ST as a good guy, lol, but yeah, he's a jackass. I still hope we get Sephiroth over something like a Chimera. There are far better and more popular/legendary characters from the PS2/PSONe era than the PS3 era.

I'm ashamed to say this, but I just now discovered the play mechanic of SSB. More damage % means you get thrown back further. I always thought you could either ring out or kill players by reaching 1000%, I only played SSB a handful of times at a friend's house and no one ever explained the rules -_-
That said, I can see why people are hating on PSA, SSB sounds like a very original title for its time. I STILL feel that PS:A should have went Power Stone, but I guess I just really want a Power Stone sequel more than anything else. For some reason, I just think Sony could have made a fully 3-D world fighter more their own thing since they came in during that time.

The main focus and point of games like these is to showcase and promote exclusive characters. Third party wishlists are silly as the games are supposed to spotlight characters only found in games for that system.
This is why in SSBB Snake and Sonic were bonus unlockable characters, rather than being there from the start.

Nobody expected it. I saw that thread. He got called a troll and stuff like that. I'm pretty sure he got banned for the thread, too. After it was revealed that EVERYTHING there was true, he still wasn't un-banned. It was still a shock how eerily specific it all was.
So is it confirmed that you can pick Big Daddy right off the bat?

You could argue Cloud and some other 3rd party characters are pretty much only found in games for playstation consoles if you exclude some minor cameos. Besides there is no need for them to take the same road as SSB. I don't think the 3rd party characters are only unlockable in this game.
And they have confirmed that DLC is probable so who knows how many 3rd party characters there could be in the end.
Which Chimera would you like in this game?

Should be a standard hybrid or steelhead, but I worry there will be way to many gun characters. A huge melee focused character like the Titan would be good.

Really? One would think that wouldn't be a problem. Sony has a ton of characters under their belt. Square Enix could afford to give them Cloud, no? Dissidia has a more niche audience than PlayStation All Stars. People who want to play as Cloud would rather play--oh, I see your point. They'd play the game with a bigger audience as opposed to Dissidia. Gotcha.
Sora would work well, if that's the case. What about Chrono Cross characters? Not a big enough following?
Square Enix owns Lara Croft, Cloud, Sora I don't see them allowing Sony to use all those characters so I think they probably made Sony choose one which is unfortunate seeing as I associate all 3 with PlayStation
I don't even care for Final Fantasy, and don't have any nostalgic feelings for FF7, but if Cloud isn't in this game, then Sony and Square-Enix screwed up. Cloud should absolutely be in this game for the same reason he should absolutely never be in Smash Bros.: FF7 going to the PS1 was a huge blow to Nintendo and everyone else, and the PS1 may not have dominated so handily without it.
But I can see SE forcing Lightning or someone in instead, because they're not planning on using Cloud again any time soon, so Cloud's presence wouldn't effectively advertise the current Final Fantasy brand.
