WWDC12 Thread of iOS 6, Mac OS X Mountain Lion and iCloud

Yeah I don't see it.

My guess is the current 13 MBP is sticking around with the optical drive and no retina, but with a spec bump.
The question is will they also release a new form factor 13 with Retina and no ODD now alongside that, or will that come later this year or next year.

The current MBP is getting eMac/white MacBook'd IMO, odd man out for one year, two tops before disappearing.

EDIT:VVV The apple tv sdk is all Trojan horse for iTV later this year. They will have tons of apps ready by launch because of this.

I just wish Apple would sort iTunes out.

They need to spin-off some of its functionality in to their own apps.

Bring back iSync.

I fully expect AppleTV to get an App Store. I see the set top box and the actual television running on the same skin of iOS with the same App Store. The set top box will just be the smaller-scale option compared to the iTV like how there is iPod Touchs, iPhones, iPad's...etc.

Although this rumor better be true, I love my Apple TV but the lack of stuff like Hulu, HBO Go, etc is crazy. An actual app store should resolve that. I've been considering geting a Roku box to go alongside it but if the app store comes that won't be needed.

I've been wondering how they can do an SDK for the existing ATV given its storage limitation(8GB reserved for caching), and I think I have an idea.

What if all your ATV apps and data exist only in iCloud, just like the rest of the media does now?

Apps will be local (they still sell an 8GB iPhone 4). Media will definitely be streamed.

They can't do that, the existing 8GB is used for HD video caching.

They either update the hardware, or go with a solution like I'm proposing, where the app data is cached at launch.

BGR is going on again about a new TV OS and SDK.
I view everything from BGR with even heavier skepticism than I do the rest of the rumor sites.

Remember how Sprint was going to exclusively debut a redesigned iPhone, with the 4S for everyone else? BGR reported that the *day* before the iPhone 4S reveal and with high confidence.

Yeah, new TV OS at WWDC is not happening; if it was 9to5 would've reported it.

BGR is full of shit and just looking for clicks.

They can always limit the caching then as the device decreases in available space.

So your movie experience suffers the more apps you install? No way.

1080P video needs a lot of room to cache.
Really? How much? An entire 1080p iTunes movie is about 5GB. They're not going to cache the whole thing if they don't need to.

It's possible they do, actually. Off the top of my head, the reason to do so would be to avoid having to redownload such a large file if you back up to the beginning.

Caching the app will be worse than caching media data. People want apps to load instantly, like on iOS. They're used to media having to take a bit to download or stream.

Yikes! Here I was thinking that I'll have all that goodness on my iPad shortly after WWDC.

Thanks.

The wait from WWDC to October is a rough one. They always show some great new features you can't wait to get, but then you end up waiting months until you can use them.

9 to 5 Mac put put another article summing up what they are hearing. They laid out here:
1) New Mac Pro: 2 standard models, 1 server model

2) New MacBook Air: 2 new 11-inch models, 2 new 13-inch models (likely with Retina Displays)

3) Next-Generation 15-inch MacBook Pro: 2 configurations, Retina Display, Thinner Design

4) Spec-bumped MacBook Pros with Current Design: 2 spec-bumped 13-inch models, 2 spec-bumped 15 inch-models (internal tweaks only)

Scenario 2:
1) New Mac Pro: 2 standard models, 1 server model

2) New MacBook Air: 2 new 11-inch models, 2 new 13-inch models (with Retina Displays)

3) Next-Generation 15-inch MacBook Pro: 2 configurations, Retina Display, Thinner Design

4) New iMacs: 2 21.5 inch configurations, 2 27-inch configurations
http://9to5mac.com/2012/06/08/wwdc-...s-and-os-x-mountain-lion-bonus-new-apple-app/

So the only retina Macs the are certain about are the two Air's and the 15 inch MBP.

Hopefully we can organize something similar to last year where people chipped in for a developer account.

Just give me this and I'll be pleased (retina or no retina, doesn't matter much to me since the resolution on the current Airs is pretty good already).

How are the current Airs for gaming? The new ones should be better. Can they run Diablo 3, etc?

My 13" 2011 MBA (i5, 4gb ram 128gb ssd) can run D3 at native resolution minimum settings at between 10 and 30 FPS. It plays a large number of games just fine though.

I think it can work for a certain type of app(Like TV/video services). Large games would be a problem, sure. The benefit, of course, is that local storage becomes a non issue. You don't have to update apps, either, as you'll always cache the newest version.

Any way, just an idea. Something has to give if an SDK is coming. Carving out a few GB's of storage from the video cache isn't a solution, IMO, and new hardware isn't likely.

I have a late 2011 MBA 13", but it's from work, and I'm leaving this job shortly. I can't imagine choosing any other laptop (11" too small, MBP too heavy, a non-Apple laptop LOLLLLLLLL NO), so I just hope they massively upgrade the MBA at the same pricepoint :p

I have been waiting 2 months for the exact same thing.

Is there any reason not to buy it from Amazon or another store like the MacMall? The prices seem better and there is no tax. Is there any downside?

It is sad but I get more excited for WWDC than I do for e3 these days.

This would never happen but it would be cool if Apple bought Nintendo for 5 billion (pocket change at this point) and had them develop a bt controller for iOS devices along with exclusive content.

Anyone have any idea what they think the New 15 Macbook Pros+Retna display will run? I want to sell my 13 Mac Pro now, but really don't want to drop 2k+ on a new 15 Macbook :(

Considering the current 15" model starts at $1800 I'd expect these to be in the same price range.

So what are the chances of iOS 6 adopting widgets of home page customizability? My friend is pretty much hanging on to her Android for the widgets and cosmetic options but she's more than willing to jump ship to iPhone if it provides some element of that. Plus I really do think it's time that they start shaking things up with the UI.

Are there any major rumors tilting toward that route?
