WWDC12 Thread of iOS 6, Mac OS X Mountain Lion and iCloud

Damn I would loooooove for Spotlight to do simple math equations.

What's this kid's idea, anyway? When real iOS6 comes out everyone is gonna know he was completely full of shit. What's the point?

Lol, 9to5 mad. Some of their leaks are about to get murdered by Tim.

Since Apple’s inventory system was clumsily leaked out onto the Internet this morning, placing those who work in the inventory system at significant risk, we’ll post the complete list that we’ve been sitting on for weeks. This includes our best guess on what these parts numbers mean.

Note that we have previously hidden the traceable items in the list so that people involved aren’t exposed. Now that other sites have revealed the location of the inventory system vulnerability, we are presenting the full data for you to see.

So its an Australian? Anyway, its interesting that they sit on info for weeks to slowly leak it out clickbait style.

I don't think they've ever been invited to events anyway.

Oh yeah, Mark Gurman has some grudge against Apple Insider, I guess because they don't credit each other for being minutes later on breaking stuff.

Anyway, they once posted something I emailed to them nearly verbatim and they didn't credit me, so their little grudge is dumb.

Yeah, they're going to get Gizmodo'd.

that just means another place will pop up with the leaks. I doubt this is as big of a deal as we think, the leaks are good for drumming up interest unless its something like stealing the iphone like Gizmodo did

All of them are about the same except the 15" Pros are AU$400 more now. Probably dat retina.
Wonder why Air wouldn't increase in price then? The apple guy leaking all this to 9to5mac said the 11 inch and 13 inch air will also be retina. WSJ is insisting their sources are saying air is retina as well. The 15 mbp rumors have consistently gone hand in hand with the air rumors.

What are the chances that they will update iCloud mail to push to your devices when a mail has been read? It boggles my mind why they havent done this yet, if I read an email on iCloud.com or my iPhone I want it to be marked as read on my iPad also or vice versa. It works fine with gmail

There is a chance but I wouldn't bank on it happening. New version of iCloud is suppose to be revealed.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
Most important question: Will Canada (or anyone else for that matter) finally be able to use Siri for searching shit, as of right now it's useless. (e.g. restaurants)

They sound like they're just reading off specs from the SATA3, PCIe 3.0, Ivy Bridge;
SATA III/SAS connectivity is now native, which is always good for solid state drives.
For your RAID arrays, video cards (professional or otherwise) this will be better than PCIE2 for scaling, though not better for performance in all cases.
expect up to 40 lanes per socket, rather than the usual 36 of the previous generation.
The new Mac Pro’s onboard memory controller has been moved to the CPU
memory will be upgraded from 1333mhz to 1600 mhz.

CNN says 9to5mac's Mark Gurman is a 18-year old "teen blogging phenom."

http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2012/06/05/whats-apple-going-to-unveil-next-week-in-san-francisco/

I didn't know he was that young.

9to5 has been my go to rumor site for years, they were the first to leak the 2008 redesigned MBP. Actually, the pictures were from some Chinese website, but 9to5 got them first. Everyone linked to them. They have also been spot on with their predictions. Going so far as to downright claim it as fact. When everyone talked about the iPhone 5 redesign, they said the design would stay they same.

If he's 18 now, that means he was 14 when the 08 MBPs were leaked? Crazy.

With all these leaks including iPhone shells and what not. I'm one hunned that the iPhone 5 will be mentioned.

It won't be mentioned because it isn't out to fall. We know this purely because iOS 6 hasn't been shown off. They always have to give devs a few months lead time to work with the new iOS before it launches and it always launches with a new phone. They won't show the new iPhone 5 months before it releases, that would kill sales.

That supposedly new iPhone body looks hot, but are they really moving the headphone jack back to the bottom? Does that make sense to anybody?

I know Apple will stick to their schedule, but how will all these leaks affect their plans, though? How will it affect sales? EVERYONE has seen the leaks, not just us small rumor digging crowd. Shit spreads fast, especially if it's a new iPhone. 5 months is a long wait. It'll be an interesting 5 months nonetheless.

Oh totally. Imagine the iPhone on your desk, you have your iPhone portrait and the headphone port away from you. By repositioning it, the headphone port is facing you. Also, for those who jog with an iPhone strapped to their arm, the screen will be positioned so that they can see it.

Eh, kinda does to me. In a pouch, you always have to change your phone orientation (facing downwards or facing upwards, screen-wise) depending if you need to use the headphones jack or if you want the speakers. Not sure if I explained myself right. To me, it'd be better this way.

I am so happy for this change since I had an iPod Touch before I sold it and got an iPhone 4S and the headphone jack being on the bottom is so much more convenient to me. When I'm driving, I use my iPhone as my music player and I don't have a dock so I place it between my legs when it's not in use and having to readjust the iPhone when I pick it up when I didn't have to for the Touch is slightly annoying. Plus, the headphone cable doesn't get in the way of the power button or overlap the screen or get in the way of your hands when it's at the bottom.

OK, all valid arguments. I've just gotten so used to it being on the top that it kind of surprised me.

With the headphone jack on the top the phone was easier to slip into a dock as well. Since the data port is still at the bottom, now you'd need to disconnect the headphones every time. Minor niggle, really.

Never used a dock so I never thought about that. It will be interesting to see how they get around this.

So I doubt it'll be revealed at WWDC, but I'm holding out for the new iMac...

Now is it rumoured to have the Ivy Bridge/7000 series GPU upgrade that I'm hearing about, or what?
When can we expect the 2012 iMacs to hit?

I need to upgrade my 2009 model, but don't want to buy the latest computers to find another is revealed just around the corner, so I'm sitting tight for now.

Also keep in mind that the headphone jack is already at the bottom on the iPod touch, so that's not exactly unheard of for Apple.

I'm guessing they wanted it there all along but space constraints prevented them from doing so; the rumoured smaller dock connector freed a small spot for it.

The biggest bomb Apple could drop with iOS 6 would be finally Retina-ifying the shutdown spinner.

I'd be blown away.

Not that this bothers me but I notice it all the time too. So weird that they haven't updated it.

That would be an issue if I ever turned off my phone!

I only see it rarely when my battery completely runs out and the phone shuts off, but it bugs me every time. For a company so focused on details that is a pretty big oversight. I wonder if it's perhaps a technical issue.

Hopefully 7970M. Please Apple?

I'm not up to date with GPU's. What card would you say is the minimum you would be satisfied with? Anything from the 7 series? What games would it be able to run smoothly.

I'm just trying to get a general idea of how powerfull the cards in the 7 series are. Thx.

Darn, I was hoping for a Mac mini spec bump.

Oh I am sure it will eventually this year. But likely they are focusing for right now on their Macs that come with screens due to big Retina push. Mac Pro would be the only exception since it hasn't been updated in over 2 years so people, myself included, were starting to suspect it was dead.

Haven't been following the thread too closely but I am planning on buying my first Mac next year, what am I looking at (rumored) for the Mac Pros/Airs? Just a slight spec bump and retina?

Improved specs and retina for both. Also the MBP expected to become a lot thinner and get rid of the optical drive and ethernet port.

I hope not. Geez. I was expecting to by an MBP this year too. Sometime this holiday season for college.

Some analyst says Apple will bring back the MacBook positioned between Air and Pro:

We expect Apple (US) to unveil a new MacBook series independent from the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines at Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. We expect the new MacBook to have the following features:

(1) Basic 13" model to be priced at US$1,199
(2) No disc drive
(3) To come in both SSD and HDD
(4) Lighter and slimmer than MacBook Pro, with equal computing power
(5) Retinal display with tapered edge, larger battery capacity

Doesn't make much sense.
