• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What game are you currently playing?

With some free time, restarted Remedy's dark-horse.

Quantum Break.

This game desperately needs either an update or a remaster so more people can play it. You can see a lot of what led Remedy to Control and Alan Wake 2 take its first steps here, including things like the time warping powers and trippy visuals. The multiple Alan Wake teases in the game were also bread crumbs of things that wouldn't happen 6 to 8 years later. Remedy really did have a roadmap for their games all the way back then.

Always nice to see Lance Reddick on the screen again (RIP, you magnificent voiced legend).

Surprisingly, the TV show portion is also pretty decent, and shit you do in the game changes scenes in the TV show as well.

Series X screens (basically the One X version). Looks pretty good for a 10+ year old game, yes this really did come out more than 10 years ago. April 2016.
I really want to play it, but the 30 fps bothers me too much. Why won't they just give it the fps boost treatment...

I guess I could try how it works on Xbox Ally X.

I have been playing Path of Exile 2 again and Resident Evil 2/3 remakes. RE2 Remake I enjoyed a lot, played 1st and 2nd run scenarios. I just wish they would have kept the scenarios a bit more interactive with each other. RE3 has a bad rep, but so far it has been good. However it is possible that mods are keeping my interest higher than it would normally be. 🍑

In any case, I was pleasantly surprised how well both of these run on the Xbox Ally X.

Yeah but the biggest obstacle on that challenge is the last part when the lasers coming down while you hacking four locks.
Took me a few tries as well. But it's not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. What I can tell you, I wish I knew about the skip before I did it the hard way.

Overall, Pragmata is probably the most fun I had with a game so far this year.

Yeah already did perfect run before patch last part took me some time get it right.

Same, I only discovered that shortcut on my second playthrough when doing the Lunatic run.

jeez... this game
Beat now the "final boss", and practically no one cares and essentially nothing changes.
Beat several sidequest storylines but beside some cool loot, nothing changes.
It is insanely void of consequences and impact. Some guards talking about some events the player did but that's it.

The city Markarth is bugged out. I don't have a bounty there according to the stats page, nevertheless every fucking guard stops me because that one quest ended with killing some corrupt guards, but I can just say "nope wasn't me, don't bother me" only to be stopped by the next guard. While doing one of the assassin missions it was funny there though. I shot an arrow at my target, him uncheathing enraged the guards and they fought him for me (almost killed him, just had to do the final shot) and then still no bounty, but fleeing was extremely cumbersome because a couple of guards were then near the action and me, and that stupid evasive dialog had to be done dozens of times. Probably should just pay the jail bribe. lol

The bounty system in other quests is just weird. How would they know were the shot came from when my stealth mode says "hidden" and no one is around except the dead victim? Almost as random as the sneaking in original Hitman. Sneaking itself is a joke. Only with muffling boots the character does not make noise that alerts everyone I guess. I hear absolutely nothing but even walking naked seems to be "loud", any regular armor makes stealth impossible.

This game is the defintion of meh and feels like I imagine TES Online is. They could have made a couple of interesting games if they focused on the Dragonborne story line, or the Werewolf storyline, or the Assassin storyline, but nope, we put everything in a blender, offer hours of busy work but not a single proper story arc, gameplay that is janky af, buggy quest triggers, pointless simulation systems and npc cycles, no noticeable progression beyond numbers increasing, a difficulty that scales and therefore negates everything but still is unbalanced with huge dragons being easier to defeat than some random enemy in some dungeon, while other enemies are done with just one hit, dungeons that all feel samey with the same traps and same building blocks over and over.
It is great if you want to waste your time 100+ hours with mindless busy work but it is a terrible game in any objective perspective. Critics and gamers alike have mind boggling taste sometimes.

Bethesda games are very close to how the first AI games will be.

Starfield, Elliot and Gothic Remake

Starfield is good I don't care what anyone says it his all the Bethesda feels, there's a ton of game here and I'm absolutely hooked. Maybe it's not the be all end all space exploration game and it has a few extra menus but man I love it, and the space combat has grown on me as well.

Elliot is awesome also, I'll buy games like this forever... Love the throwbacks.

Gothic is awesome as well but the platinum sucks a bit, I'll still get it tho.

Its still very difficult especially with time limit to some vr training, but will try again and again because I need the bingo coins 😁
if you get too frustrated just remember that you don't need to get perfect run, you get each reward individually and there is no trophy for perfect run in VR challenge.

I see so no trophy related to perfect all virtual training. For me I just want to get the coins and upgrades.

While I did enjoy the VR missions, I definitely won't be doing them again :messenger_beaming:

What nice though is, I have the Infinite Ammo weapons now. So in the future if I want to do some playthroughs again, it's going to be
fun with the infinite ammo.

Some people I've seen online complained that while the infinite ammo is cool, you still have to actually play strategically. Which I did find funny, because what did they expect? Infinite ammo != 1-shot kills.

Onimusha 2, PS2. Just finished it, the ending true boss battle is a bit crap. The Nobunaga fight was easy, I had everything maxed out and ultimate weapon.

Even though it doesn't completely follows the story of the first, this is really a great sequel. Cool secondary characters.

It improves length and gameplay with more attacks; more armor upgrades; more replayability with scenarios/mini-games; shop/bond system

Jubei doesn't have the charisma of Samanosuke and the original has a great horror tone rather than include comic relief moments but as a whole 2 > 1. It's content makes 1 feel like just a prologue.

Finished all the DLC for Wolfenstein 2 New Colossus. All three are fun in their own way. Football Joe is an absurdly rediculous character. You wait in hiding for a nazi to walk by then football charge them for an instant kill, lol. Love this game.

Returning to one smaller/indie game between big releases. Picked up and finished another Indie horror / P.T like.

Infliction: Extended Cut

This released on PS4 around 2020 (I think) and never got any PS5 updates. Runs at 60fps but is aliased as fuck. It's good the game is mostly dark cause whenever you can see stuff, the jaggies are scarier than any ghost. On the game itself, it's yet another one of those no-combat walking sims, this one is a bit closer to Gone Home in tone as just about all of it takes place in a single home and you have to do different loops to solve the puzzles and move the story along. The game also has some live action FMV here and there and I got a decent chuckle out of its implementation. And a lot of pictures of clearly one of the developers girlfriend/wife used in the in-game photo frames.

The one thing I will give this game some marks for is that the main ghost is a motherfucker. It gave me good jump scares multiple times through the game.

Still playing and loving Star Fox and Adventure of Elliot.

Despite of all the sad news surrounding the gaming industry the actual games has been great.

Got sucked back into Star Wars Outlaws. Never played the final DLC. Only issue is you gotta finish the story first, but even getting through that takes awhile because its so easy to get sidetracked with contracts and earning creds for upgrades.

Also taking my time with Adventures of Elliot. The game is pure distilled PS1 Squaresoft nostalgia.

I finished all the normal challenges in Starfox only to realize that in order to play on expert mode, unlock more things in the holoviewer, and what not I need to get a medal in every single stage. I managed to complete every normal challenge (and that was a lot of effort!) but I'm not sure if I am able get those medals imo.

I also have like 50 steam games and switch 2 games I haven't played yet that I need to get into. I don't even know where to begin.

I had a bit of a playthrough on "The Invincible" released some time ago I know but it was on my radar for sometime...still need to dig deeper into Star Wars Outlaws and Forza Horizon 6, the World Cup has been a distraction (albeit a great one!)

Actually started Dino Crisis last night.

Is pretty cool TBF, I enjoyed it. Was refreshing to just feel like I'm playing and figuring everything out myself.

Sure, I wandered around lost LOADS and got eviscerated plenty of times but it was just cool.

I strangely felt it was a lot more "chill" - there was nothing super flashy, constant changes and crazy music or sound effects going on plus the little loading screens made it feel a lot less ADHD and slower paced.

Looking forward to playing more and also going to go into the original RE games I bought ages ago too.

Began The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales tonight after browsing the OT here on GAF. Got about three hours into the game and I love it but why do they have to hide stuff under every random bush and in every random barrel? My OCD ass running around chopping all the grass on an area just to find a handful of coins. Game is a blast and I didn't need to play the demo after reading impressions. Instant buy.

Finished Bastion.
I started enjoying it towards the end and I'll probably give NG+ a go.
The Narrators cryptic nonsense was so tedious towards the end.

"Well Kid, guess ya wanna know what's going on? Well, to tell ya the truth, I kinda wanna know too, but I'll tell ya this, if I don't know what you wanna know, you ain't gonna know... You know?"

Aarghh shut up!!!

Bastion.
I love Supergiant games but dropped this a couple of times before.
I'm making good progress now, definitely got a bite on it, but I remember why it falls short for me personally.
Firstly, the narration. (Loved it in Transistor) I just find that pseudo, Wild West drawl to be so irritating after a while.
Secondly, I think the melee combat is just too clumsy, you have to be literally on top of an enemy to register a hit, which makes taking a hit yourself all but inevitable sometimes.
Doesn't help that the Kid moves like he has lead in his shoes, and his evade barely has any iframes at all.
Best off using long range attacks and that shotgun imo.
Good but not great, bit like a slower paced Chaos Engine.

So I'm not alone. It's crazy how many people seem to love the Narrator and his pretentious babble. I thought the game was decent overall but all those voiced lines really detracted from my experience.

Haven't contributed to this thread in a while, but I've got updates....I actually beat some games!

This may not seem huge to some folks here, but I assure you it's a big deal. When you're a busy guy with a family, life doesn't always allow for playing games, but both my daughter and wife are off for the summer, and my own work has massively subsided, (cut in half matter of fact), so I've finally got time for fun :D.

I beat the following, all somewhat recently:
Yakuza 6
Lost Judgement
Like a Dragon Gaiden
No I'm not a Human
Octopath Traveler 2
Marvel Cosmic Invasion

I'm almost done with Cyberpunk, (game is fucking huge), but there's still probably at least another twenty hours there. I wanna start Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, but I'm afraid to buy it even at the currently great price as I assume it's gonna be coming to Humble Bundle fairly soon....I don't know, might cave.

I'm proud of myself, I think that's a lot of game time I put down, probably more than I've gotten in the last five years.

The secret is to make your enjoyment and leisure time as much of a priority as everything else that you prioritize, like gym time, nutrition preparation, and even education and work. Being happy is fucking important, really goddamn important, and having no time to engage in your hobbies is actively terrible for you. I've made it a point to prioritize my hobby time as much as my training time, and my training has even improved as a result.

I'm up in the air on what to play next.... thinking about finishing up Cyberpunk but it's up in my attic which is like a hundred degrees this time of year lol.

Holy shit is this game horny.

Here's me trying to be a Bladerunner style detective looking for clues and the character I'm playing just wants to bang the fuck out of things.

Here I use the command ((Check)) on Catherine, a 14 year old daughter of a colleague. I'm thinking that this option might give me some clues or make an observation. No. My character tells her to get naked.

Also, to get into this house she wanted to validate who I was, and for that I had to tell her how big her tits and hip size were before she'd believe me.

Is this Kojima's homage to Leisure Suit Larry?

World of Warcraft Classic and Retail
I kinda miss the slowed paced vanilla/classic era. I also miss how grounded and small the overall scope of the story was. Classic Warcraft. Humans vs Orcs. Areas of centaurs, murlocs, kobolds, and rabid wildlife. None of this cosmic entity stuff that is in retail. I miss popping to places like Duskwood and Stranglethorn. Going into those zones and spending a morning or afternoon clearing lots of quests and doing the odd bit of grinding. Getting new items and upgrades was always something I looked forward to, too. Anywho, I am currently levleing a hunter who has just turned level six! Also playing a Paladin on retail. Level 86. Just been doing delves and decorating my little house.

Resident Evil 4 Remake
I am in the castle area. Just about to head to the maze area with all those infected mutts - that bit used to really get to me in the original when I was younger.

Borderlands 4.
This is a really fun game. The open world is hit or miss but every time I'm done playing, I can't wait to play again.

Shame it launched in a very rough shape (only recently bought but I remember the discourse on it. People really like it but the performance at launch was bad enough to kill any momentum)

Yeah, i like Borderlands 4 also, it is really a fun Borderlands game.

I just rolled credits with Guardians of the Galaxy. It's the epitome of a modern game, mostly competent (albeit a little buggy), feels really expensive, goes on way too long, and is completely uninteresting outside of a solid story.

Grabbed this on the Steam sale now, shame games like these don't get the attention and praise they deserve. Recently heard about it and good things, also that there's a sequel.

Great game so far, old school survival horror, clearly heavily inspired by Resident Evil. Great puzzles, some are a bit obtuse and weird, you can feel it's a lower budget game, but great nonetheless and absolutely love the no difficulty and limited saves.

Finished Cyberpunk 2077

Somewhat less than the sum of its parts - the characters are underdeveloped, and the story could've done with some extra love. The final boss especially needed greater presence throughout, to heighten that final encounter (flipping heck, that fight was so damn hard, too!).

Overall, though, I really enjoyed it, and on a technical level it's a stunning achievement. I'll return to the game later in the year, to finish the side missions, trophies, and other bits and piece. I'm at 60 hours now, so a good point to take a break for a while.

It was fantastic! I have Tormented Souls 2 in my backlog still. But Tormented Souls 1 was an absolute treat to play.

Playing throught FF16 right now and it reminds me a lot of those interactive movies from the 90s. Walk two steps - cutscene. A few fights - cutscene.
Side missions are a joke.
Still playing through as the story is quite engaging.
Also: Benedikta is bae
