Steam Machine |OT| There Are Dozens of Us. Dozens!

A reminder that OT threads are NOT a place for drive-by shitposting on a game, console, or whatever. If you're not interested in the Steam Machine, simply put this thread on ignore and move on.
Fuck me ..

Just wanted to pop in as a Deck owner and say that the best thing about this machine is the fact that the Steam Deck has been receiving rapid fire OS updates.

Hopefully this is a rising tides situation and it pushes everything else forward, including Steam OS for other devices.

if this is true Fu valve
I'm already paying you $1,300 for this thing but you want me to buy games too to get a better spot to buy it earlier???
I think he was just kidding 🙂

This was just a random lottery. I created the OT and have been a strong supporter of this thing since day one, and I still got hosed lol

Karma didn't work this time 😢

Looks like all mentions of the Dbrand companion cube case thing they were selling a few days ago has disappeared from their website and youtube. Seems they didn't have the license from Valve to make that. Big surprise, Dbrand is a pretty shitty company I hear.

Whoa! That's crazy!!

A lot of YouTubers have been showing that thing off. That's shady on Dbrand.

(I sure love their Switch 2 joycon grips, though)

Congrats!! Looking forward to your impressions in here! 🔥

Now to everyone that's on the waitlist, I would highly appreciate it if you cancelled your spot in line 😂

Just kidding, but not really.
Oh for sure. I'll post an update when I get the next email. Hopefully ASAP.

Bruh... I was really looking forward to this thing. Hopefully it's just something where they can edit and release.

I'm not a fan of Dbrand's image at all. It's so cringe to me but this looked so cool.

No it's true i have 800+ games
And i instantly got picked.

I also get discounted monthly blowjobs from steam employee's because i'm such a rich and loyal costumer.

I wonder when i can actually get the email so i can spend cash.

This is all so weird. But leagues better compared to the shitshow with the controller.
It made me not care about it at all.

I'm slightly tempted to build my own "Steam Machine" after being put on the waitlist, especially with upcoming hardware increases, but man…it won't be the same.

I'm seeing some folks getting an email that their Steam Controller is ready for order, when their availability said "September". So that's a good sign, at least.

Going to hold on for a bit, but I do hope that us waitlisters get these prices locked in, should prices go up later this year or in 2027 👀

Could always just buy a "better" pre-made not-quite-Steam-Machine though. For example the ASUS ROG Nuc would blow these things out of the water.

Though sadly not as small nor as quiet. But for "only" $2500 you'll get about 8x-10x the performance of the Steam Machine, and you could probably install SteamOS on it eventually.

I'm happy for everyone excited for the Steam Machine, and super tempted myself, but if I had the choice between a box 10x faster for twice the price, I think I'd have been a lot more eager to jump in.

My hope is other PC manufacturers like Asus and Lenovo and Dell etc, attempt gamer-oriented boxes with SteamOS as the primary OS, in a couple years when support for nVidia and other hardware is improved.

The size of that one isn't too bad! Aesthetics could use a bit of work lol, but at those specs, my bedroom PC would be set for many years. Appreciate you sending that over.

I'm gonna start hunting around for a prebuilt. I was ready to drop $1500 on Steam Machine, but I can probably stretch to $2000.

Still prefer this tiny box with HDMI-CEC and sleep/wake, though 😕 I sorta have the sleep/wake working on my 4090 with the Steam Controller, but it's not very seamless.

was it the 2tb?

Kind of a big boi compared with the Steam Machine, but i found it interesting that they're shipping these with SteamOS pre-installed and obviously trying to target the Steam Machine crowd:

15.59 inches deep, 8.15 inches wide, and 12.36 inches tall

Just curious because I haven't messed with SteamOS outside of the deck but does it support stuff like suspending games?

jshackles jshackles you're a legend. I can probably make that size work in my bedroom setup without it drawing all the attention!

I'm also curious about the suspending games and Steam Controller sleep/wake. HDMI-CEC isn't a deal breaker for me, but the sleep/wake stuff with a the Steam Controller would be.

Edit: Here's the return policy for that Steamroller.

2. Condition of Returned Items

To qualify for a refund, the returned product must:

  • Be unused and in new condition
  • Be in its original, unopened packaging, with all factory seals intact
  • Include all documentation, media, accessories, cables, and components that were included in the original shipment
  • Be packaged for return shipping so that it arrives undamaged
Any product that arrives at our facility damaged, opened (where unopened return is required), missing components, or showing signs of use will not qualify for a refund. We may, at our discretion, return such items to you at your expense or charge a higher restocking fee proportional to the loss in resale value.

I was going to get one but decided to try building my own steam machine since steam os can be downloaded now

For 1,370 I can build this, about $300 more than valves lowest end model

AMD 7600X3D cpu
RX 9070 40 Tflops 3-4X stronger than valve's
16 gigs DDR5
512 gig SSD
Liquid cooling

All inside a case that's slightly bigger than ps5, I want as much as I can get to power steam frame headset

All parts bought through a combination of micro center, Newegg, and ebay

Please report back how this goes and post the final parts list, I'd be interested in this

alot of these parts I got on sale, and the SSD was an open box for $60 so this price isn't going to be doable any day of the year
The 7600X3D blows out the price, but I can get close with a regular 7600X, and move to a 9070XT

This Build
https://newegg.io/ee499ad

And this GPU
https://www.newegg.com/xfx-quicksil...b-graphics-card-triple-fans/p/N82E16814150902

For some reason the Newegg builder isn't letting me select any 9070 or 9070xt cards. You end up at $1,380. IMO the 7600X, X3D chips don't get hot enough to benefit from a liquid cooler. I had a liquid cooler in my last gaming PC on a 5900X, but I was never happy with the noise. A good tower aircooler is much quieter and gets rid of heat without issue.

My case came with a liquid cooler so didn't have choice, the only thing I got from Newegg was ddr5 ram for 200

It shows 220 but you can get 200 once it's in your cart

Looking at these prebuilts is making me want the Steam Machine even more 😢

Being added to the waitlist for the one I wanted the least was such a blow.
