GTA VI physical edition won't include discs

All due respect, modern laptops no longer ship with CD drives, The PC folks haven't needed pissing around with a CD drive for over a decade now unless it's for retro PC games.

Most modern console games were basically license keys on disc that still required download for a good number of years now.

Blu ray disc shortage is a thing because industry at large is now in the winding down phase with the move to all digital.
Regardless of required downloads or not, you can always resell your game on disc if you want. That's a huge advantage.

Physical edition without a disc? That's needlessly penny pinching. 100% no need to pre-order now.

Yep, what a load of bollocks!

The brass neck on these wankers is unreal.

I'll pay the $100. I know how much I got out of digital C2077 and W3...maybe a thousand hours combined. If GTA6 can show me a good story and a good time, the extra $20 is around the price of a super value meal at McDeez.

This is it, baby. The biggest game of all time, launching exclusively on consoles, and no physical media. It's all downhill from here. Be ready for more of this from other developers until physical games completely die. OWN NOTHING BE HAPPY.

Exactly people against Switch 2 game key cards will have to not buy this too.

Otherwise they are hypocrites.

I'll bring up GTAVI every single time someone complains about a game key card.

Just to ask that person if they bought it.

Yall better boycott. Nintendo fans are watching you, lol. We know you will fail and we will win. Begin. Boycott of GTA game key card for ps5 starts when?
What are you "winning" by further eroding physical media, exactly?

Yeah, I believe PS6 will have a disc drive (optional one for BC and some releases that are on a disc) but most games won't have physical releases (or they will have cd keys in the box like GTA6).

We are getting more and more information that the boxed version will not be released at the same time as the digital version to prevent leaks. We receive conflicting reports: some say that the physical release will appear 3-4 weeks after the digital release, while others say that it will not happen before the beginning of 2027. More information will be available in mid-February.

There's still hope.

I need an official confirmation whether the code in the box is sellable or not. I'm not interested in GTA online at all!

I tend to play games and then sell them on quickly, except for Battlefield games which keep me going between single player releases.
Why would it be sellable? It'll be like any other code in a box - when you redeem it, it's tied to your account henceforth.

How much is the game size? Can't they release it in multiple disks? What's the max capacity size of ultra Blu-ray disks?
It's not that. This way, anyone who touches GTA VI has given Rockstar at least $80. If they print a few million discs, how many people will get their fill by giving GameStop $74? Some singular discs could sate the GTA VI appetite for 5-6 different gamertags!

We've reached the point where lost sales for a decision like this are effectively zero, but lost revenue due to used sales could reach billions of dollars.

PS6 being digital only is just the cash injection Sony needs with memory and storage prices where they are. This fills that gap almost perfectly

I think the beginning of the end was all the way back when some games started shipping in a broken state and you were required to download and install a patch just for them to be playable.

GTA VI will have a boxed version at launch but it will only have a code inside it instead of disks. That's how you know the person who leaked that was full of shit. Some of it just happened to be kinda right.

That's when any of my remaining interest disappears. I'm all about physical games and consoles on retro stuff. I can never get invested in an emulator save. But starting at PS360, I just preserve those games on PC. Imagine how cumbersome it would be to bust out a PS3 to play some Ass Creed 3 at 600p25hz with 80% screen tearing. Hours of console and game updates if they're even available!

It might be the final nail in the coffin, but physical games have been dying for quite some time now.

It's probably less about the size of the game or the cost of printing 2 discs and more about this killing the second hand market and ensuring there are no leaks before launch.

It'll just be a duff code, then you'll be free to use the box as er, a Frisbee 💁‍♂️

Absolute waste of time and resources!

That's from five months ago, things can change.

However, if the goal really was to prevent leaks, a proper physical version can eventually show up at some point. That's the hopium.

Everyone's being so melodramatic about the precedent this sets. The game is going to be at least 170GB - 200GB without updates, and in my opinion it's understandable that it isn't getting a multi-disc release, because who in the industry even does that?

The alternative is what? Releasing a half baked disc that only a fraction of the audience buying this game will even consider purchasing? What's the point?

The old guard will always complain while the new one is already happily going digital already. We're just closing the gap on phone and PC users.

On PC you are not locked to one market place (pricing monopoly) like on consoles. Good luck.

Disc could have a fucking one megabyte of data and that still would be FAR better than this shit, you could at least resell it.

If your intention is to resell the game after you've played it, then your issue is with the upfront cost. In that case, you should probably wait for a steep sale or not buy the game at all.

If anyone had sense, dont pre order. just wait and buy it the week its out. It wont happen, but its what needs to happen. There is literally no reason to pre order, and it would be the only way to send a message to Take Two.

Ill be hanging fire. Im still excited for the game but there is literally no reason to pre order anytime up until two weeks before. If I see a cracking deal on PSN codes ill get the money and just leave it on my ps5

Not pre-ordering but still buying the game isn't sending all that much of a message.
