GTA VI physical edition won't include discs

Remember when peoples were mad about Xbox one digital only ecosystem ?

We are getting closer and closer.

The fact you will not be able to buy used copies of GTA VI is insame.

But take 2 probably known how massive GTA V used sales were and want to get as many $ as possible.

The only positive from this is that it will be funny seeing other publishers trying to do the same ($80 price, and no disc) only to realize they don't get a free pass because they aren't GTA
Actually they will twist it in a different way: "if they can sell a code-in-box for $80 we can certainly sell a true physical one for $80"

all the billion dollar franchises could easily do the same: CoD, FIFA, Madden etc.

I want to dismiss the no leaks rationale as a smokescreen for no used sales. But they aren't promoting early access. So I bet no leaks was part of their reasoning even though I think it's primarily no used sales.

Sorry Gamestop.
It is probably both, but as a consumer, I am excited to know there will not be leaks 2 weeks before launch. Rockstar will have gamers going in practically blind

You misspelled "greedy".

I'm really not surprised they're pushing digital though, they've got a huge budget to recouperate. A physical disc might be pennies on the dollar, but multiply that by tens of millions and it adds up.

No cheapo Gamefly rental for @Topher

or adam :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Happy Fuck Yeah GIF

Time to start mowin some lawns dude

Talk about being greedy as fuck, they're gonna bump up the price and not even pitch in a disc? Come on.
All due respect, modern laptops no longer ship with CD drives, The PC folks haven't needed pissing around with a CD drive for over a decade now unless it's for retro PC games.

Most modern console games were basically license keys on disc that still required download for a good number of years now.

Blu ray disc shortage is a thing because industry at large is now in the winding down phase with the move to all digital.

Exactly people against Switch 2 game key cards will have to not buy this too.

Otherwise they are hypocrites.

I'll bring up GTAVI every single time someone complains about a game key card.

Just to ask that person if they bought it.

Yall better boycott. Nintendo fans are watching you, lol. We know you will fail and we will win. Begin. Boycott of GTA game key card for ps5 starts when?

Digital is not about our convenience anymore, it's about controlling what consumers do.
Been saying this for years lol

You should only be okay with digital when it comes to PC

Console owners cheering a fully digital future even when Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo started limiting key distribution away from GameStop and Amazon and only through to themselves always blew my mind.

Half the benefit of consoles is physical

Game Key Card Auto VI

PS5 Edition

Nintendo continues to innovate, lol. Sony and Rockstar can't help but copy.

With OOT and Rockstar normalizing this and even if they raise the price, Nintendo having the only modern console under 1k next gen, things are looking up.

Most new console games still have the data on disc. It may be a poorly running build without a day1 patch, but it's still there. It's very easy to think otherwise, because news outlets easily pick up hot stories like Microslop shipping their games on PS5 without the majority of the data on disc. It's not a norm.

No disc is crazy work. I expected a high price for the game, but not the complete inability to resell it.

I wasn't going to get it anyway but dang. I do think this will seriously hamper sales in developing parts of the world where a 100 GB download is a nonstarter.

With GTA6 you only have:
shit

Also, GTA V turned out very famous with people buying at least two times. PS360, then PS4 and then PC. Take 2 is counting with this for damn sure, with PS5, with PS6, PC, and maybe even with fucking Switch 2

I'll won't buying this GTA VI for this gen (if ever). It's not to send a message or whatever in this case, but I understand who do with this philosophy. Physical media still has space, but distributors are pushing more and more to not have it. One might say that a good reason it's because for not reselling, and of course it's a good reason. My main problem is the servers duration and the version of the download

Since ever games have different versions released. Ocarina of Time is one of the firsts to became famous for it because it changed the music and some artwork. Gameplay was not really changed, so eh. The thing is that a physical game I can have for as much it physically can live, and the version that I have is the version that I chose to play. Put on the platform and play. That's it. A digital released game I have to trust on some server, and I will only have the option that they're releasing at the time, which can be very worse from what was released in first place - GTA Trilogy is worse than the first versions, and those can't be bought now. I can understand online games because duh, but a single player campaign that online is just a feature? Stupid to make as obligation

CD, lol.

And your second paragraph is completely false. What you're claiming is true for some games, but the vast majority are still complete on disc and playable with no download.

Either way, it's also about being able to resell your games, and physical copies being cheaper than digital in many places. Digital is simply worse in every way except convenience.

It sucks, but I accepted this a long time ago. The alternative would've been a disc that still requires a download, and in those cases I'd rather just download the entire game. I love physical media, but I'm not anal about owning every game I play. Besides, we've been on this path for years now, this isn't going to change anything.

Not me.

If this had a proper physical release and a best buy steel book, I would have in a heartbeat.

not anymore.
Yep, I was planning on preordering as soon as it was available for fear of physical stock running out fast.

Now I'm just mourning the death of bluray games, can't even feel excited about all the new screenshots.

Blows my mind that a monumental gaming release like this is a fucking plastic "physical" box edition lol. The dumbest shit ever. These games don't come out all that often anymore. They should be knocking this one out of the park. Instead, it's a whimper.

Can't wait for Elder Scrolls VI to come out in 2037 and just be the air we breathe. "Pre-order the special "pocket of air edition" now!" Chodes.

No one will care

And every media outlet wouldnt dare touching Rockstar at the risk of becoming blacklisted

Rockstar could demand you to offer your first first-born in exchange for GTA VI and people would do it

idk dude, RDR2 was pushing 150 GB and needed 2 discs for consoles. No way GTA 6 is gonna be less scope than RDR2 i'm taking a guess this game will be around 200+GB if not more.

For a game that's to expected to sell in the hundreds of millions over the life time are we really expecting them to do this with 3+ disc's?

That's just straight up bullshit when it comes to PS5. The vast majority of games are present on the disc and can be played without downloading anything. It's a notable exception when a game can't, as was the case with the PS5 version of Starfield.

Console gamers have a fetish-like attachment to their physical media. I get it, collectors, trading, etc but PC Gamers haven't had a disc in almost 2 decades and are just fine lol

For Sony over 80% sales are digital (over 90% for Microsoft) so Rockstar is just discarding a small portion of players. And out of those 20% many will still buy it even if it's just a code in box because of convenience if they can find it cheaper or can trade in something. In the end people wanting physical media is shrinking and eventually will be (or maybe they already are) a noisy bunch on Twitter.
