Fable | Gameplay Trailer released

Some of you man, Jesus Christ 😄

When are they adding the british humor? When the game is done?

Have you played Fable before? This is standard Fable fare. There is still demon slaying and all sorts in the other games too.
I expect if they have over 1000 unique NPCs that can be interacted with some corners might be cut in terms of how deep the interactions are. Major characters should have a deeper level of engagement though.

Imagine showing some actual gameplay like dungeons , story content, actual Fable gameplay besides fucking around with npc's

That looks like a middle-England peasant to you? Don't answer that, I guess.

Forget it. I'm tossing out that novel I was pointlessly writing in response. To summarize: Nah.
I'm pretty sick of this tripe. Game's a hard pass, and it'll do nothing to right the sinking ship that is Xbox. If anything, it's turning the cannon on their own hull.

The stances, postures, and facial features of the "women" are all those of men. The "male" main character has an effeminate hip sway in his walk, which no toned, sword-wielding male warrior is ever going to exhibit.

This means one of two things:
1) The developers are incompetent.
2) The developers are doing the thing, and yes, that means this game carries the message, and is thus, by parlance, "woke."

It's strictly binary. One or the other. And either means I don't care about this game.

So that male walking was intentional in the end.

I'm officially abandoning any form of hype or interest for this game. This Fable is dead to me.

Still these things are a part of what youd do in Fable. When it comes to the combat I just hope it isn't too simplistic and easy and there are some good enemies/bosses.

It has been very telling in this thread the amount of people who claim to like the old Fable games but seemingly don't recognize their core gameplay features nor side content.

I decided not to point them out and instead let the actual Fable fans here see who may or may not be pretending.

Yeah like 70% of that video was them gushing about these features as if they invented them for the first time for this game. That's why my main takeaway was that they better have polished this game and have tons of content, because in terms of features, it seems like Fable 2 and 3, but with less.

It is a bit impressive how you managed to word this post in a way to twist my point back towards the developer's direction lol.

Regardless, what they're actually implying they have innovated on (but haven't fully shown yet properly) is NPC remembrance and potential emergent moments.

For example, we don't know how the beggar guy will interact with the rest of the town yet if you change his life. We don't know what repercussions that will have on the people in that town, or even if he had a friend or relative there who will talk to you about it. We don't know what that would lead to down the line. We don't know how that change in reputation will have a ripple effect on some others.

This is the type of emergence these devs are hinting towards, which sounds as ambitious as something like New Vegas combined with a sort of 'nemesis system' where NPCs 'remember', which is why it sounds far too good to be true until they fully show a full on cause-and-effect chain of events, New Vegas style.

Even from what I just typed, I can already imagine a full decade spent on developing such a game and it still ending up with just a mere 20-30 hour campaign. This idea has me intrigued, but if they don't fully deliver on it then I'm still not opposed to another run of a Fable game with a good mix of mechanics from 2 and 3.

March Climber March Climber I guess I'll believe that the emergent gameplay systems are that deep when I actually see it in the released game :pie_thinking: . Obviously I hope it's true, but also, remember Todd Howard back in the day making claims like this about Skyrim?
I mean Peter Molyneux himself made a similar promise with the old Fables lol.

In terms of AAA, only New Vegas was able to 90% succeed and I'm not even sure they went out of their way to advertise it in the first place.

An emergent, butterfly effect sandbox is like the holy grail of RPGs so if anyone tries to shoot for the stars I have to at least give them their due for trying.

Sadly I don't think a 100% success is possible without using A.I. enhancements....maybe if someone were to constantly update their game on the fly and constantly bring in voice actors week by week to records hundreds more lines, maybe that could come close, but that would just be a giant money sink.

Man, people on here are impossible to please. "Walk animation looks gay, lip sync is off, combat is too basic, what do you even do?" 🙄

Are we just going to ignore how ambitious this is for side content? This isn't even the main hook of the game! Managing businesses, buying real estate, relationships built on memory... credit where it's due, this looks incredible. Imagine how that memory mechanic scales into the main game. Will enemies remember you, despise you, or admire you based on your choices?

You lot are just chronic whiners. Everything is bad, all the time

Personally I think the walk animation looks fine, didn't notice any lip sync issues, and Fable combat's never been very complicated, it's not really that kind of a game, so whatever. No complaints with that stuff.

As for the ambition, though, I feel like it's too soon to say. Fable 2 and 3 also had managing real estate. They had npcs with personalities who would react to you accordingly, and they let you do a bunch of stuff that afffected the world and the people in it. I'm gonna need to see more before I decide if new Fable's systems are actually much deeper than what we already had.

Also, this new Fable doesn't have is any sort of body morphing. You can't look good or evil, you can't get fatter or thinner, you can't get buff or weak. I think they also removed emotes :pie_thinking:? Anyways, the big one is the body morphing.

I'm okay with these two going away, because I always felt that the angel halo/wings and devil horns looked too goofy. Additionally, I disliked that it took forever to get skinny after eating food to heal and when you didn't want to get fat you would have to just not eat certain foods, and those foods you couldn't eat healed better than the 'healthy' ones.
you can't get buff or weak.
This one is only one that I'm sad is going away. Being a warrior and going down the path of strength until I was a big brute with a hammer was a cool effect.

All I know is, what I've seen so far looks way more interesting than Fable 2 or 3. Especially given how limited magic was in those two games. I still hold the original game in higher regard than its sequels, and this game looks like it has a foundation to potentially surpass the original from the mechanics I've seen so far. Hopefully there's difficulty modes to choose from, Hogwart's Legacy was way more fun on hard due to the massively shorter timing for dodging and counter play.

Sony studios like SSM and Naughty Gods have set a really high bar for character animation (Combat and Otherwise) in WRPG's. I think most WRPGS will never get to that level, so I understand the criticism this game is getting for that.

Honestly it's embarrassing how many happily and arrogantly show their ass and their ignorance like this.

As the saying goes.

Fuck dem kids…

Looks promising to me.
The questionable voice acting and naff lip syncing, lends it a certain Eurojank charm.
I'm looking forward to being essentially good, but also a total asshat.
Combat looks a bit better than before.
Art direction is fantastic.
Male walking animation is nothing to be afraid of.
Hopefully we'll see more soon.

this game is a joke. it looks like a village simulator who the fuck would play this? I want to slay demons not manage people's emotions. i don't expect any good art to come out of the uk ever again.

This video was to show depth, NPC complexity etc. these are the fundamentals that are in place and it's a very positive development that they've nailed it.
The video doesn't go into the main quest and doesn't focus on combat. Stuff like the lip synching is relatively light work and is fixable by launch. They can even polish up the combat. There's like 8 months of dev left.

Joke of a reaction indeed

That's kind of what Fable is and has been since its inception. Blame Molyneux for the weird social sim aspects if you like, but if that's not what you want in your fantasy action game, this probably isn't the series for you (it's not my fav either, TBH).

Not sure if serious....

This is just a part of it. Tell me you've never played Fable without telling me. Yeesh breh. All these games had that and they wanted to show here how it looks.

It's going to have a story with main quest and side quests and all kinds of stuff that you'd expect. Be real, please.

There's still 8 months to release and the stuff they showed is a major part of a fable game.

Have you guys shitting on this game played the others?

We have seen British humour, let them do the marketing they want.

Supposedly GTA 6 is out in 5 months and we haven't even seen anything of real gameplay of that.

Where is any humor in this 30 minutes???

It sounds and feels absolutely bland as fuck without any character or quitkyness whatsoever.???

And why not show that first??? Like the core of the game???

Lmao

They are talking about the 1000 NPC's which is very much a fable style thing.

I am sure there will be more videos on combat etc.

Did you play the original fables?

They've literally got a shit load of famous UK comedians in this game and you are asking if there will be humour, is this in good faith?

Yes 1 and 2

And it was never the main focus of the games, even in two where it was much more in depth

I dont care about 1000 bland npc's withhout humor or personality.

They are all straight out of Hogwarts Legacy

Also Im gonna miss not having a doggo

I added a bit on the UK comedians. Do you think there won't be humour?

Sorry you are not bothered about the NPCs which to me sound like the most Fable part and Molyneux esk - I dont want another typ;ical third person fantasy game. Lionhead were famous for pushing systems and thats why we played games like Black and White and Fable.

To just discard the NPCs is one of the key parts of the game. Maybe, you should just skip it and move on if it doesnt interest you.

The npc's need some flavor to them, caricatures of a british version of a fairytale setting

There's more personality and flavor in the entire 30 minutes here than in the new "Fable" I bet

I played all three, and watched my girlfriend at the time play through them as well. I know exactly what they look like . I completely disagree with you, as I think theyve nailed the tone completely. the 30 minutes you shared is primarily talking to NPCs. I am confused.

Heres some of the comedic talent in the game. I am sure there will be comedy.

  • Richard Ayoade: Plays Dave, a gardener-turned-giant. He is best known for The IT Crowd and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.
  • Matt King: Voices Humphry, a retired hero. He is celebrated for playing Super Hans in Peep Show.
  • Nathan Foad: Plays a character named Jacob. He is an acclaimed stand-up comedian and writer known for Bloods and Newark, Newark.
  • Natasia Demetriou: Plays Jenny. She is famous for What We Do in the Shadows and Stath Lets Flats.
  • Susan Wokoma: Voices Arden the Cobbler. She is well known for her roles in Chewing Gum and Truth Seekers.
  • Nina Wadia: Voices Grandma. She is a veteran of the sketch show Goodness Gracious Me and EastEnders.

I definitely understand the frustration. To this day, I don't get why some teams seem to treat the largest demographic of console and PC gamers as an enemy. Not every game needs titillation, but if you're going to code a whole romance system that includes nearly every NPC, some titillation might be a good idea. If it's already in the game, they should have marketed it. If it's not, they should probably address that. They're trying to sell copies after all.
No they arent ... the game looks exactly what it is... gamepass fodder. The "trying to sell" part was added later in development when an Ps5 version was decided. Its one of the major issues with this subscription system.

Now take the new Halo, who was build from the ground up like a game intended to sell to Ps fans. it just looks miles better and its just a re-skin remake.

You are basically bashing your head against a wall with this guy, he's been working double time trying to convince people this game isn't for him. Nothing you write will dissuade him from writing this game off. Another guy in here complaining about the regional accents in the game 😂

Take away Ayoade and you have a list of literal nobodies who aren't funny.

now if you said, Jimmy Carr, Lee Mack, Dara o brien, Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey, Aisling Bea, Sandy toksvig, Ricky Gervais, Joe Wilkenson, Noel Fielding, Bob mortimer and so on and so forth, pretty much any of the actual comedic greats of Britain then you would have a case.
