[Spoilers] Is Saros another woke slop from Sony?

Blaming the community while the creators insist on injecting this slop into gaming is certainly a stance to take.
Imagine being this blind to subliminal messaging (subtle a better word maybe?). Go watch the Creepy Line documentary to see how easily tech companies manipulate your mind.

What is woke… in one sentence it is Marxist class theory applied to "intersectionality". Intersectionality is the combination of gender, race, and sexuality. Yea obviously if you take away the gender, race, and sexuality of the characters in the story it's not as woke lol.
Ok. So the problem here is the race of the guy, race of the women and the gender/sexual choices? That's why this is woke?

So if he wasnt Indian, the other woman wasn't black, and the wife didn't settle for another woman and get her lesbian freak on... Everyone would be ok? Hell, let's just say the black woman was a black man... Say she settled for that instead. Then everything is fine right?

And we just gonna act like we don't see the problem with this kinda thinking?

I mean it's not hard to understand... right? The man is the bad guy, the girl who is married to the man not only jumps genders but races to be with a good person. They had to twist that narrative into knots to get her to hook up with a black lesbian. It's literally right there man.
Read above.

And I happen to know quite a few women that after some traumatic heartbreak went on a I hate men and will only date women phase. So this doesn't seem woke to me.

Blame the dumb #$%&s who claim men can menstruate AND KEEP ON pushing that shit to this day by convincing 14 year olds to chop off their dicks without their parent's knowledge. It's no wonder people push back on anything and everything.
Are you menstruating sir? Cuz you kinda sound like you are.

Exactly.

Woke is very easy to understand. Pattern recognition is not hard.

Liberals just understand that the woke label is radioactive now and want nothing to do with it, so they'll insist something isn't woke while celebrating the elements that virtue signal to wokeness.

And then they complain when specific games don't do ANY of said virtue signaling (like Wukong or Crimson Desert).

Still sounds like a shit story.

Definitely agree. Shit story. Hated it too with the 1985 movie the color purple... Basically the same story.

Doesn't make it woke tho.
The story template is shit.

The elements layered on top of the story make it shit and woke.

And there's a 'they/them' character. It's woke. Flat out.

OK, you seem sincere.

We want to rescue the girl.

We want to fight King Kong to save Ann.

Dante went to hell for Beatrice.

Luke rescues Princess Leia (and then she brilliantly flips the dynamic by taking charge).

Shrek rescues Princess Fiona (who then also brilliantly flips the script).

Link rescues Zelda from the evil Ganon.

Leon Kennedy is sent to save Ashley, the president's daughter.

Mario jumps and climbs to rescue Peach.

Cloud Strife trying to save Aerith. (I said trying...)

In the erotic novels written by women for women, like the famous Morning Glory Milking Farm (you know the one with the minotaur on the cover, you must have seen it, it's been meme'd to death), it's the women taming the beast. She wants you to slay the dragon, and then she tames you with her allure. No-one is safe around Kratos in God of War on the PS2, except for the women he sleeps with, they tame this aggressive monster of a man.

Speaking of Kratos, it goes back thousands of years to the Greeks with Perseus saving Andromeda from the sea monster.

We're longing for this combination of danger, romance, and heroism in one narrative with a happy ending.

Instead Sony makes us cuckhold some lesbian.
That was actually funny.

And I get that. I want all the things too. It's why I said that if I have an issue with devs is that they fail to see how simplistic gamers really are with regards to stories.

My thing tho is that not every bad story... Or story that has lesbian in it. Or new race or something is woke.

I don't like the term woke as it is too easy to throw around. There is a general sensibility about it but you really have to stop every time it is used to see what it resembles this time.

What movie is that?

You have to really try hard not to see woke bullshit being forced into the story.

In a normal story, MC would be punished for his infidelity - his wife would find another, better man OR his tries would be rewarded and she would forgive him, he would become the better man himself.

But here, they decided to suddenly make her gay....

First of all, this story is a fiction. The people who made the game decided to do it this way. If they didn't want it to be woke they would have chosen differently. The black woman was a black woman because the people who made the game wanted it to be a black woman. It was intentional. So some hypothetical doesn't matter and is in fact, really stupid.

So yea take it up with the people who are woke. This is how they think. yea they put these "intersections" in games to push their ideologies. This is what they do. you're pretending they don't, even though we've had over a decade of this and the creators who do this saying they do it and why they do it publicly.

And I get that.

Concord was the straw that broked the camel's back for me after Spiderman 2, GOW:R and TLOU2. Sold my PS5 after the Concord deep dive show. Glad I did. It's not just the forced DEI elements, it's also being just wholly disappointed with bad storytelling and writing in games, that I've moved to games that are just gameplay only or super limited on story cutscenes and long walk exposition. This industry cries about high budget costs, but frankly they should really look at how much they spend in telling terrible narratives and consider trimming back there.

I don't give a shit about the "woke" stuff, but what I'm reading about the story with the guy cheating on his wife and such.......that just seems like an incredibly odd narrative to serve as the background for the game play.

This is how they think. yea they put these "intersections" in games to push their ideologies.
Intersectionality is a thin veil of a virtuous mask hiding a sinister murderous ideology behind it. It is based on a fatally, most likely purposeful, manipulative, misunderstanding of the world and its people.

The moral superiority of the intersectional ideology should make the hair on the back of your neck stand.

Catherine was an amazing game that did just that.

Why would they put this kind of shit story in the game? What is the mindset + worldview of someone who thinks this is a great story for a roguelike action game?

Someone thought it was important for the story to be the way it is, and for the characters to do the things they do + have the identities they have.

I think it's disingenuous to pretend like oh they just aren't good writers. No, it's because the people who write this shit care more about portraying certain identities in the "right" way + creating a story that reinforces their worldview, than about creating characters you love (or love to hate) and a story that draws you in and sticks with you.

I don't see any brainrot messaging. Just a very bad soap opera. Which will be vaguely obscured by actual brainrot in the vein of a illusory world you play through similar to Returnal.

To be fair the actual story of Returnal is pretty lame as well once you put all the pieces together and has everything to do with guilt, mental illness and regret.

If the story turns out to be as described it will succeed in making As the World Turns look amazing.

Yes! That's exactly what it reads like! A bad Soap Opera!

Catherine was an amazing game that did just that.
Catherine was a humorous, flirtatious game about dealing with the guilt of cheating.

I haven't played Saros, but I cannot imagine it being humorous or flirtatious. Is it even about dealing with the guilt of cheating? If I'm wrong then I'm wrong.

Please. stop with the woke or non-woke stuff. It is making the board less fun each day.

We have a new console from Xbox about top get some info on, PSSR 2 is pretty damn amazing, DLSS 4.5 has made gaming even better on PC with cheaper and cheaper cards reaping benefits, all kinds of crazy news to discuss and talk shit to each other about.

This woke this, slop that, is everything now. Some games can just be written poorly, designed poorly, we just went through a decade of having crazy town pushed down our throats and now the other side is not stopping and pushing and causing the same shit in the other direction.

Let's talk some shit about our favorite hobby, the games to each other, and move on from all of this and enjoy the forum a little more.

Some movie where the woman was chested on and then she refused to take him back and hooked up with another woman.

I'm not pretending they don't do it.

I can't say that the anti woke thing is getting just as bad as the woke thing and not be acknowledging they are both there.

I just do not think this is a woke story. Or even worse the whole woke agenda nonsense.

Where I jump in against the woke stuff, is when they take perfectly fine stories or characters and swap around races or genders for no reason whatsoever.

But that's not what is happening here. In this case. As u put it. It's an original story. So it could have been whatever. Because it's got a spectrum of races and lesbian action doesn't make it woke.

I can probably count on one hand. Maybe 2. Games that have had a good story.

I think most devs mix thought provoking up with good story telling.

Whether it's the red vs blue button, white/gold vs blue/black dress, woke vs anti-woke vs anti-anti-woke, pro-life vs pro-choice, etc., the internet is unmatched at finding the most effectively dividing topics to bring us all together :pie_smiling_hearts: (to argue endlessly)

Come on, man. The tower being a representation of the MC's twisted mind is excellent. Silent Hill 2 is even a better example. In Saros there's a complete disconnection between the woke drama and the actual gameplay and setting.

In Returnal this is cleverly done and the confusing story pieces match what Selene is experiencing in the game, it reminded me of Event Horizon. Saros's narrative is just brainrot with the sole purpose of getting SIE's approval.

I was avoiding reading this cause I didn't want any spoilers... but now that I have... how the fuck is this being woke?

Like, wtf is wrong with people these days, throwing labels on everything? Just as bad as being woke to begin with.

I mean, the guy did a thing, and ended up not getting what he wanted... which is totally understandable considering what he did to begin with. So what is the issue? Would this story have been better if he got fogiven? Or if it was a man instead of a woman? If he wasn't indian?

Like, call it a bad story all you want, but I do not see anything woke about this. I don't even think it's a bad story... I mean its not my cup of tea... but it's not a bad story.

Honestly... where I blame devs whn it comes to this stuff is that hey have too much faith in their audiences and trying this whole weaving intricate thought-provoking stories. They would have been better off just making it about a man trying to find a stone that would give him eternal life and the power of a god so he can take revenge on a business man that killed his wife. It's like those are the only kinda stories that can safely fly with gamers.

It can't be a coincidence that some of the most loved characters in gaming are those that can't talk and in a world with barely any story. Eg the Doom guy.
I agree the superficial "things" about the story don't really equate to it being "woke". Or, if that would in some people's definition, I'd not care.

Examples- Arjun's race, or a "diverse" cast; that shit is par for the course. That's not the issue at all - if someone is truly mad he is Indian and British, they can suck a doorknob.

The "woke" shit is the plot - every modern western piece of major media does approximately the same tired trope on masculinity and aims to portray an straight male in a very particular way.

Does trauma and drama make for a more interesting protagonist? Sure! But look across modern media, especially western media, and tell me this isn't what "they" do; You surely can't argue there isn't an agenda, can you? ESPECIALLY coming from Sony's studios.

I'll end my useless diatribe with a anecdote that I feels like it encapsulates this whole situation.

Maybe you've seen this commercial on YouTube or whatever, I don't have cable so I don't know if it's there lol, but this girl is sitting in her car and she's browsing on cars.com for a new car because she just got a promotion. She's sitting there with her boyfriend and he asks her what she's doing, she says because of her promotion she wants to upgrade. So she swaps to some cutesy little Italian car, turns in her seat and there's a suave looking Italian guy who says Bongiorno in a flirty way, and she bats her eyes and says Bongiorno back.

Do you think if that was reversed it would ever be allowed? The man just replacing his girlfriend for something "" better? No. The whole western calculus is to degrade and lesson men. This is seeped in in major and minor ways and it's calculated and plotted.

So the fact that Arjun was developed to be this way it's just part of that calculus because they all think like this - the cherry on the cake with SAROS is that the end the whole thing with his wife, turning out to be a lesbian, or having been Bi the whole time, and deciding it's time to fucking start doing the ol' clam slam is just their obvious way to dial up the "inclusion".

Do you see woke stuff in Spider Man 2, Last of Us 2, GOWR, Concord, old Horizon and new Horizon game?

I wonder what is the threshold for you to admit that game is woke.

Both MS and Sony are pushing this shit very heavily.

Posted by Emmy Ator Best Emmy Ator Best in kojima thread, still cracks me up lol

WHAT IF this is literally what happened to the director/producer and it is a 4th wall breaking effort to get his own wife back?

That's the ONLY way I can see such a horrible story for a game like this being redeemable.

Catherine was an amazing game that did just that.
Catherine wasn't a bullet hell roguelike shooter. It was part visual novel part puzzler.

SH2 - "Men are bad" = Woke Slop just 25 years earlier... /facepalm

People need to stop projecting their outrage, the only result is limiting the number of things they allow themselves to like.

Its political brain-rot that needs to be resisted.

SH2 had unique story for a video game 25 years ago. What is unique about this?

lol you're saying this is really the director flagellating himself in an effort to un-gay his ex wife and win her back?

It's a great theory. This really deepens my appreciation for the game.

Oh I don't believe this is what it is. But its the only thing I can think of that would make this story not so embarassing for a game like this.

As said in my other post, the level and monster designs and overall symbolism of SH2 is 100% on point. The genre is a much better fit for that kind of message too.

Naughtydogifying a roguelike is beyond dumb.

What's next? Tetris with a story mode in which the way tetraminos link are sexual postions?

True, but that doesn't mean it can be pulled off in every game. I haven't played Saros yet so I'm not really criticizing it. Just saying it doesn't appeal to me.
Catherine was a humorous, flirtatious game about dealing with the guilt of cheating.

Play the game, Carcosa in Saros serves as a similar metaphor to the tower in Cathrine. One is comedic, and one is more dramatic, but both are representations of the main character's guilt and internal struggles.

The game is fun, and while the narrative is not the strongest, it's no where near as offensive as this thread is making it seem.

That twitter summary is very obviously biased by the posters apparent racism, and is phrased in a way to incite rage in some people and rile up others.
