[Digital Foundry] Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro Review: All New Modes & Features Tested!

From PSBlog:
  • Introduces 3 Graphics Modes:
  • Ray Tracing Mode enables ray-traced reflections on vehicle paint and transparent objects, with all shadows rendered using ray tracing, at a stable 60 FPS. This is the default setting and our recommended way to experience the game on PlayStation 5 Pro.
  • Performance Mode ensures smooth gameplay, targeting 60 FPS on regular display, and up to 90 FPS on VRR-enabled displays.
  • Ray Tracing Pro Mode adds ray-traced skylight, ray-traced emissive lighting and ray-traced ambient occlusion, running at 40 FPS on displays with high refresh rates (HFR). If your display does not support HFR, it targets 30 FPS instead.

So there is a difference in RT implementation between RT Pro and RT.

Possibly the worst DF video ever.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for pointing this out. Sad DF failed this big here.

DF the ray tracing experts that don't know what they're talking about :messenger_grinning_sweat: 🫣 😂

This is what we get when a fanboy does tech analysis.

He views with prejudice assuming that anything on console will be inferior to PC that he'll only look for what's worse while overlooking what's better.

1440p is overkill. They probably had this feature set already tested when PSSR 2 hit and was too costly to start all over again (specially for a game that isn't selling much more from now on).

I'm not complaining about higher resolution.

And I don't even trust DF "counts" anyway

Genuinely insane they missed all this

They missed so much .. their video about this update is lackluster and horrible. But maybe we should pay attention to what we say or one of them will go on a mental social media break again

They did exact same thing when Path Tracing was introduced. From their video it looked like minor lighting upgrade. No one was really hyped about it because of that. Then update released and people started releasing insane footage... I mean being technical oriented video channel about graphics in games and not being able to properly showcase changes... yeah.

When PS6 releases people will be blown away once again by Cyberpunk2077 with PT on.

Fuck up by DF. Not CDPR.
Possibly the worst DF video ever.
I don't think they had access to that footage. From what Ollie said, they had access prior to release and were given information by CDPR. Is there any footage of large water bodies in the video? If not, that's likely why they missed and just assumed there weren't RT reflections there.

They captured the footage themselves, doesn't make much sense?

And wouldn't trust a single word from beluga anyway considering he's still lying and literally contraddicting CDPR:

"Vast majority of reflective surfaces do not seem to use RT.. This includes most windows.. glossy painted surfaces"

CDPR:
RT reflections on transparent are for all transparent objects like any window (building windows, metro, etc.) and of course including cars, but not only

I haven't tried it myself, but we have people here corroborating every single glass surface in the game has RT reflections:

Where are those "vast majority of windows" without RT when even all those balcony ones have it?

Not sure about "metals and glossy painted surfaces" either, after reading this:
Well, I can confirm there is RT reflections in certain NPCs as well that have shiny pieces of clothing, and some chromes and shiny latex. So in fact, everything that is 100% glossy, it's just not doing diffuse reflections.

And I guess car paint could also enter within both definitions.

What a joke, professionals my ass.

Video actually showcasing the improvements properly:

It's insane how much better this comparison actually is. Comments are roasting DF, rightfully.

Those RT shadows..

Yeah, fuck it. Was waiting for a proper Path Tracing playthrough in the future, but I can't resist those shadows and reflections at 60fps with PSSR2 4K from 1440p base resolution.

This channel has some of the worst music ever. Makes it impossible to watch the video.

They had much better music before.

I think the music they had before was just as bad.
Considering all they do is side by side comparisons, with no context or explanation, it's a channel I can well live without.
There are so many people doing the exacta same thing on youtube.
For all the issues that DF has, at least they try to explain something with their analysis.

What makes me laugh is how easy it is to tell how this game was designed around RT. I mean this is clearly not meant to look like this:

yzZisKK.jpeg

This is what it's supposed to look like:

95MI7cF.jpeg

The best thing DF could do is delete the video, admit they made a mistake, and redo it properly. Make it a video of less than 10 minutes focused on game material; a half-hour talk without substance is not what we want.

I popped it on real quick last night in RT Pro mode, but my save is in the middle of a gig exploring some shithole apartment building. Not exactly the best showcase, but I DID notice the ceiling and wall lights give off a much more noticeable effect when walking past, not lens flare or anything, but it just felt more real.

Hopefully I can pull myself away from PS5tarfield long enough to give it a full checkout on my upcoming three day'er :messenger_sunglasses:

Sorry I meant DF. Mistyped.
Video number…five?…in a row where Digital Foundrys coverage of a game has been either inadequate, inaccurate, or downright deceptive.

Their reputation sinks more and more into the gutter each day and I don't understand why they're letting it happen.

The quality of detail in reflections looks a significant step up from Spider-Man 2 which in turn is much better than RE Requiem.

I don't think I've played anything on PS5/Pro with all cascaded shadow maps fully replaced with RT.

Cyberpunk's direct-view LoD's on the more aggressive side though with some chunky geometry and low res textures in pretty clear view.

What's the deal with the pixelated billboards in the PS5 Pro version?
Just failed to load in the texture, it happens sometimes when the camera is span round and is random, it usually loads in
Or the crap textures on the ground of the PC version
This did have me confused, it might be the denoiser as Bojji said or it might be PSSR2.0 making up details as we've seen that's actually a thing
