[Digital Foundry] Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro Review: All New Modes & Features Tested!

Quite frankly I'm getting sick of seeing all these PS5 PRO threads.
Put them all in ONE thread please. I don't want to see them any more.

I wonder how much rendering budget they could have freed up by lowering the res to 1080p. 1080p upscaled to 4K using PSSR2 still looks good and perhaps could have left enough overheard to add reflections to more surfaces. This would have been more transformative than a sharper image in my opinion.

However, it's impossible to know without dev tools. It's possible that even with that, they couldn't quite hit RT on most surfaces OR perhaps the internal resolution of reflections would have followed and be too low? I don't know. Don't reflections operate at 1/2 resolution?
It would have made a world of difference.... they surely settled on some strange rez choices, then again, if this was being worked on before PSSR2, they probably didnt have a choice, as there was no way they were going to upscale anything from a 1080p base.... which is evident with even the performance mode with RT pushing 1440p-4K native.

I suspect all they did right now to whatever PS5pro mode work theyhad been doing was swap in PSSR2. If they had been working on this with the knowledge of how good PSSR2 was, they would have pushed this thing harder.

I kinda assumed that the PS5 Pro's RT hardware is more powerful than my 3060ti's... guess not lol.
I'm pretty sure I could easily get the same settings + the full RT Reflecions running at 30fps on it... never tried because I wouldn't even consider playing it at 30fps, but I bet I could
Is your 3060 Ti running the game at 1440p upscaled to 4K?

again, never tried targeting 30fps. I target 60fps, and at 60fps I am going 1440p DLSS quality mode with DF's optimised settings.

and for the fun of it I played it an hour or so at DLSS performance mode with pathtracing. where I hit 60fps but i lt was very unstable at times.

not sure how it would run with RT reflections and sun shadows only. especially if I'd modify the reflections to only apply to materials with no roughness... should be easy enough to mod in I think... I might try it some time

I agree with Oliver they should've lowered the resolution and just went all in with reflections but that would've required more dev time and cost I'm glad the dlc is still one sale though this patch is right on time.

How does the Liberty DLC get incorporated into the game for us guys who haven't played cyberpunk yet? I'm wondering if I should buy that DLC now or just wait.

So basically there's a mission a ways into the game and it branches off from there. If you're gonna start it just buy the full game at once so you don't miss it.

Ray Trace pro mod really could have drop the internal res and increase the graphical fidelity, that is the magic of a good up-scalar. 1440p to 4K is quality mode up scaling on pc, they could have opts for balance mode 1260p or even 1080p internal. Ray trace mode should be same RT pro graphic setting but running at 1080p internally with FSR3 FG to double the frame rate with the extra GPU headroom for dropping the rest. Performance mode will be no RT but DRS + FSR3 FG targeting 120fps.

Off topic: Examples like Crimson desert and Cyberpunk upgrades pretty much assures ps5 pro owners will have a very good version of GTA 6 on ps5 pro.

Hopefully. Considering the mediocre image quality of the base PS5 version, which appears to be 1440p with FSR1 (so borderline an upscaler with a sharpening filter) and what seems to be an engine with very heavy RT, Pro version could be vastly improved since these are the core strengths of the Pro.

CP has last gen numbers of NPCs, geometry and textures. I doubt you can compare it to fully next gen game like GTA6 with WAY more complex Ai simulation. Crimson Desert drops to 30fps in CPU heavy places, whole GTA6 map could be like that.

What's the deal with the pixelated billboards in the PS5 Pro version?

LOD or those billboards just act like that.

That's a good question I'm not sure but I'm just going to buy it because I've liked what I played from the base game after 4 hours.

It unlocks in act 2 after you have done a quest path in Pacifica since that quest path is tied to the Blackwall.

It doesn't change much in the base game. Few lines of dialogue change after you've done PL and that's about it.

Few things you can do in the base result in minor changes for the dlc. Mostly dialogue related. A minor cosmetic item and one minor change to a quest late in the DLC.

DLC also unlocks two new endings.

You can start DLC from main menu using new game, but that obviously prevents you from experiencing main game missions.

The 2 endings are locked to the dlc and very self contained. But you're right. Depending which ending you get in dlc, you get the new ending to the base game. Which has variations depending on your relationship with Johnny.

Personally, my favourite ending because of how it all plays out. But I can see why people don't like it.

Edit. I've never touched the skip to PL. Not sure how it handles the meat packing warehouse. But I gotta get Sir John Phallus to use for the killing blow on the end game boss.

One question...

If I play the PlayStation 4 version on PlayStation 5 Pro, will I get these improvements?
So yeah, the specific PS4 version itself won't get these enhancements, but if you have the PS4 version you can download a free upgrade to the PS5 version, which will have Pro enhancements.

So you are running internally at 960p native.

Try doing 4K DLSS quality, that's what the PS5pro is running at its RT pro mode at 40fps. Curious to see how your 3060 would fare.

Or the crap textures on the ground of the PC version

Possibly the worst DF video ever.

RT reflections on car windows only.

RT shadows are also the full Psycho version now, covering every element including small blades of grass, unlike Base PS5 Fidelity RT:

It's a shame they got Alex to make this video.
That guy is completely incompetent.

They had to update the article after CPDR had to correct them
[Update: we've had word from CDPR - "Just to mention that RT reflections on transparent are for all transparent objects like any window (building windows, metro, etc) and of course including cars, but not only. Super minor, but we thought we'd just let the team know."]

Does it apply to the 60fps RT mode as well?
