It might not be up to them to decide
Not a big uptick, but still a plus.2 pm completed hour.
28.4k vs yesterday 27.8k. So +600 or +2%.
If that hold up, peak will be about 41.5k today.
One thing about Marathon trending (not sure about other games) is that the morning trend is usually way off than final peak. If the morning trend looks noticeably down, the final CCU trend wont be as bad as it'll pick up a bit. Also, if the morning trend is way up, the final will come back down.
My guess is Sony will let them keep a skeleton crew that'll pump out barebones updates, like gameplay modifiers and stuff, instead of full-fledged new maps and systems. That'll probably go on for years. It'll be like 10-20 guys.It might not be up to them to decide
If it holds to a small increase, it shows cryo did nothing again. A day one pop, but nothing more. Not a big uptick, but still a plus.
I think the telling numbers is what Monday will look like
It'll depend too on:My guess is Sony will let them keep a skeleton crew that'll pump out barebones updates, like gameplay modifiers and stuff, instead of full-fledged new maps and systems. That'll probably go on for years. It'll be like 10-20 guys.
Down about 33% from this time last week.
There aren't any games below 2k ccu that run 800+ high paid veteran developers.
You're maybe right 5% of the time on your Gaas predictions (I'll be generous and say 10%), so maybe you don't know the industry either.Marathon was made by "just under 300" employees according to Ziegler. Destiny 2 made considerably more money than Santa Monica or Guerilla Games in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
You people who think S2 isn't a foregone conclusion don't know this industry.
Let me see that spreadsheet. You're maybe right 5% of the time on your Gaas predictions (I'll be generous and say 10%), so maybe you don't know the industry either.

Bungie just lol they've turned me off so bad lately I honestly wish Sony would say you all failed to deliver you're fucking done and just close bungie up... Life goes on I'd laugh my ass off.
Now... Being a dick aside, sure I want destiny 3 and i wouldn't 100 % want that... BUT if it did, I wouldn't lose much sleep because I just hate how they are anymore and the way they cater to such tiny subsets of audience.
I think it's because it feels like it's either marathon or destiny at this point and they said hey destiny fans fuck off, that's how it feels I'd say. But I wouldn't be so so hard on marathon if destiny 3 was on the way because it then means everyone is getting the style of game they want from bungie
It all would just depend, if they said that is their focus and it's all on deck got d3 sure I'd be excited for it.Do you trust a Destiny 3?
Everyone keeps saying Destiny 3 like it's this magic bullet but Bungie just repeatedly fucks the game up and from what I've read Edge of Fate made the game worse than it's ever been. Destiny was probably one of the most toxic relationships I've ever had with a game. Constant FOMO and gaslighting from Bungie while they would break the game and promise to fix it again because they were listening.
Forget any casual relationship you could possibly have with the game either... If you walk away for a few months and come back your light level is off and the second you step back in there's a grind. I got Final Shape for free but I don't even want to bother with the campaign because I know the second I log in all my gear will be outdated and I'll have to engage with whatever tiered weapon bullshit they implemented with Edge of Fate.
I have thousands of hours on Destiny but that shit is dead and buried to me. I would not pick up Destiny 3 and I don't believe it would be this instant success everyone thinks it would. Either Bungie is tasked with something entirely new or just shut them down.
... We are totally going to support this for the next 10 years. Kind of vibes

Well, maybe is doable after all

Exactly lol, thousands of hours in Destiny 1 but I wasn't coming back for more punishment served up by Bungle the fun police. They burned even more bridges with Destiny 2 shenanigans.Do you trust a Destiny 3?

While true, this doesn't address my point. It's gonna be really hard to pinpoint that exact number. Not everyone on the project would have been there from start to finish, not everyone would have been totally dedicated to Marathon, people like IT, studio management, QA, central engineering (game engine, tools, etc...)
That number Ziegler gave might have been the peak value. But way more than 300 people worked on Marathon in total.
Just grabbing the list of names from Mobygames and totaling up the main departments, so not central tech, publishing, analytics, studio operations, and you get just over 400. Now that's all credited, there will be people in that list who never worked on the project at the same time as others on the list. And everyone is going to have been paid from the budget some how, including all the uncounted people I mentioned.
The absolute total number of people associated with Marathon is 2,753. That number is going to include people who spent less than a day on it in some capacity and is more a showing of just how big these beasts have become now in this modern era. It's a lot of people who want to get some slide of the pie from the Marathon budget though.
This isn't a statement about S2. That's on Sony and Bungie to decide. I'd say if the game continues in this state then we'll see an S2. Given that they'll probably need to be knee deep in building it now, it's likely that decision has already been made. Of course it could also get unmade.
I asked how many games get shut down with more than a 2k CCU average. You listed (a totally valid) one game.p.s. You didn't respond to my Back 4 Blood post on the previous page. I was interested in your thoughts on what shut down means and if you'd say ending development counted for that game when it had 8k CCU.
Ye because it's at 0 just like marathon will beNope. It fell below that.
Try again.

~300 are on Marathon. You kinda forget that Destiny 2 crashed hard after their final shape. Destiny 2 is still profitable for Bungie but not profitable enough to cover salaries of close to a 1000 people team which is why they pushed hard to finish marathon.
Destiny 2 will generate another wave of revenue in June for Shadow and Order. Then they'll likely have another big update in the winter.Steam numbers (worth noting that on PC D2 was mainly battle.net game for a good while)

Secondly. IT doesn't matter if marathon was made by 1 person or whole 1000. It needs to cover salaries of whole bungie because there is no other game on horizon for next 4-5 years at least.
My guy, thoose clowns has been collecting data for years for both Destiny and Marathon, and yet here we are with 2 games that together barely can hit a ccu of 50k.....A number that was something Destiny ate for breakfast once upon a time. They had it all, but theire greed and desperation and poor planing and handling left them with nothing. Its a shame....~300 are on Marathon.
~500 are on Destiny.
Bungie is not a 1,000 person studio anymore.
The same logic can be used on Guerilla Games, Santa Monica, Team Asobi, Sucker Punch etc...
They generate a lot of money for 6 months - 1 year and then go 4 - 5 years in a drought.
Destiny 2 will generate another wave of revenue in June for Shadow and Order. Then they'll likely have another big update in the winter.
S2 for Marathon is a certainty. Bungie is collecting a ton of data right now and they'll attempt to course correct in June.
Relatively speaking, the Marathon team has not collected a ton of data. There's a massive difference between doing lots of small closed playtests and opening your game up to everybody. My guy, thoose clowns has been collecting data for years for both Destiny and Marathon, and yet here we are with 2 games that together barely can hit a ccu of 50k.....A number that was something Destiny ate for breakfast once upon a time. I would imagine the original plan for early follow on content was 'more of the same'. That doesn't seem like a great plan at this point.

I bet you it generates considerably more revenue than the studios I listed.![]()
Shadow and Order has practically no chance of generating much of anything. ILY but that sounds likeyurinka levels of delusion.
It'll be a grain of sand in the ocean kind of wave, when they used to do Lizzo jumping into the kiddie pool waves. The ceiling for the update is "maybe generate some goodwill in the remaining playerbase" if they actually deliver some quality of life updates they were supposed to ship last year. Pantheon 2.0 and the third or fourth loot refresh for old raids won't be bringing players back in droves.I bet you it generates considerably more revenue than the studios I listed.
With Peter Dinklage's lines restored?I know what can save Bungie
Destiny remaster. Easy cash flow
Well, according to Steam Top Sellers Chart for 2025, only 25 - 50 games generated more revenue than Destiny 2. It probably performed similarly well on console too. It'll be a grain of sand in the ocean kind of wave, when they used to do Lizzo jumping into the kiddie pool waves. And again, I do believe Destiny generated significantly more revenue than Santa Monica and Guerilla in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and likely 2026. Context that is rarely added in the doomer talk.

I assumed God of War Ragnarok and Forbidden West released before 2022. I appears I got my years mixed up.Do you have a source for these claims?
I find it highly unlikely Bungie beat both God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West in 2022. Ragnarok did 11 million copies in the first 3 months alone, though some of that revenue was split in the 2023 calendar year because it was a Nov 2022 release. It basically out performed the Last of Us 2 which took 2 years to hit 10 million. Keep in mind at this time Bungie was ~1200 employees if I recall and Santa Monica was 400 or less. There were support studios involved in Ragnarok but it was a massive success for Sony overall.
Keep in mind as well 2023 was the Lightfall release year where Bungie under performed their own revenue expectations by 45% ( Source ) which lead to the first massive wave of layoffs at Bungie, that hardly reads like success to me. Bungie then had to keep laying people off in 2024 because the Final Shape also under performed. It's CCU stats were ok but people did not stick around for the seasonal content and checked the fuck out. In 2025 Edge of Fate and Renegades can only be labeled as disasters, doing 1/3 and 1/4 the CCU stats of the Final Shape. 2026 had Marathon sell a mind shattering 1.2 million copies as a budget release price of $40...
Every year after 2022 has been under performance after under performance for Bungie... Btw Santa Monica and Guerilla didn't release any major games in 2023 and beyond. At best Guerilla released a VR title and a lego game. Why would you expect them to beat Bungie in revenue in those years?
He never does. But you bet your ass he will ask you for a source every single time.Do you have a source for these claims?
Again, moreWell, according to Steam Top Sellers Chart for 2025, only 25 - 50 games generated more revenue than Destiny 2. It probably performed similarly well on console too.
I think the drought studios I mentioned would love to generate grains of sand like that.
Its almost april 2026 bro, w/e destiny2 made back in 2025 was already used up for keeping bungie alive all that time.Well, according to Steam Top Sellers Chart for 2025, only 25 - 50 games generated more revenue than Destiny 2. It probably performed similarly well on console too.

The numbers are the numbers.Again, moreyurinka logic. He liked to pretend that because of 2024 numbers (top 10!!) that 2025 wasn't about to fall off a cliff (which it did). Shadow and Order isn't even a paid expansion... most of the people who will stick around playing it probably already picked up the Battle Pass in the bundle last year. A hypothetical end-of-year expansion would surely bring in some revenue... but the odds of it being significantly bigger than Renegades or Edge of Fate from a content perspective are practically zero, and the odds of it pulling back revenue to even 2025 levels are zero.
