Xbox business Showcase Announced for February 15

What's this from?

Doubt we'll get anything leaked prior to this and I don't see it setting the world on fire. I expect they'll say a bunch of PR fluff and vague answers, which won't do much to assuage fears.

I think they've out themselves into a position where there's no real way out that doesn't cause at least some damage, similar to 2013 XB1 reveal.

The silence has been defending, and we can piece together the ‘new strategy’ from the leaks we’ve had IMO.

- surface team will lead on their next ‘consoles’ (possible multiple SKUs including a handheld) - these are effectively PCs.

- xbox will be licenced out to other hardware manufacturers (steam machine mk.2)

- xbox will be publishing most (read all) of their games on PS and Switch

- possible Game Pass restructure to nerf the service and promote software sales again

That’s all short-mid term stuff. The long term stuff (exiting hardware business) would only be decided based on the impact of the above.

Most interesting thing about this is does Daddy Nutella purge the org. now that he knows a senior member of the team is leaking this shit?

Not a big deal, they bought SEGA, and they will make the Dreamcast 2.

Coming 2025, with launch games like Persona 6, SMT6, Like A Dragon 9, Valkyria Chronicles 5, Shining Force IV, Phantasy Star V.

Nothing to see here folks, move along sir.

Notice how Greenberg is nowhere to be found…

Or all the rumors of such a thing were bullshit made up by fake insiders competing for attention.

No way. If there was no substance they could, and would've squashed it before it got any traction. Why would *any* company simply allow doubt and uncertainty about their brand to fester for over a week?

Even assuming there's nothing whatsoever behind the rumours, its dereliction of duty bordering on self-sabotage not to push back as strongly as possible!

It's probably already recorded.

Halo on Playstation?

You really think that? I think that's a bit over the top.

I'd be so shocked If Microsoft put games like Halo and Forza on Playstation that I'd gargle my nutsack.

Xbox is just so bad at these things. I understand it's likely to be a sit-down interview that's on video as well, but why the hell announce this as a podcast? It just leaves room for people to attack them for assuming their faces won't be shown. Like come on, Xbox. Maybe think of these things.

man even in the announcement you can tell they are crying. They don't seem happy at all.

" listen to us in whatever fucking podcast you listen to we no longer give a fuck " attitude lol

Sea of Thieves is bigger than Halo.

It’s not even in question.

Sea of Thieves average player count has exceeded Halo Infinite (F2P) and Halo MCC combined for a long, long time.

Patting themselves on the back for doing such a great job with the brand too.

Would not be surprised if we get more "case by case" talk with no actual announcement of any specific game. Will be shocked if Phil Spencer and company have a true "come to Jesus" talk about the status of Xbox consoles.

I'm here for the memes.

The decision to make every game multiplataform, the abandonment of the console business and resignations is also not how these thing are annunced...
That is, it is so strange and novel that no one can know if it indicates one thing or another.

My first impression is that it will be more of an attempt at damage control or "asking for calm" where they will reaffirm their commitment to the console business and perhaps confirm the development of new hardware (without giving dates, plans or philosophy) and embrace the "case by case" and ambiguity to save time and complete the process of facing up and responding to the fans but knowing that the doubts and unknowns will not stop.

P.S. I haven't heard anyone waiting for the announcement of an acquisition 😂. Has anyone here said to expect something like this??😅
On the contrary... I think this is exactly how you announce stuff like that. First off, they are not going to say everything is going multiplatform. They will NEVER say that, even if that ends up being the case sometime down the road.

What they will do though is talk about how they decided to put smaller titles like HFR and MP-focused titles like SoT on other platforms. And how that is because they are pro gamers and want as many people as possible to get to experience these games and how they are not fans of the traditional console walled gardens. Then they will talk about how committed they are to Xbox and GamePass, and then announce how they will be adding so so and so Activision games to gamepass which shows their commitment to their fans.

Then they will say they have no plans on leaving the console hardware business and already are well in the development of their next console. And then may even announce price drops of the current consoles, and probably say something about how December was the best December for Xbox series consoles ever....

And as for future games, the most they will say is that they will treat that on a case-by-case basis, and how they give the freedom of that kind of choice to their studios, so if a studio of theirs wants to bring their game to other platforms, they will try and see if they can make that happen. And they would make a case how a lot of those studios were multiplatform before, so they are not sure thats something they wanna take away from them and the industry. they won't, however, reiterate (cause they have said it before) that Xbox exclusives, past, present and future will remain Xbox exclusives because doing so locks them into that commitment. So it would be left open-ended.

And they will say all this as matter of factly as possible that you would come off thinking it was like this all along.

Yup, a PR salad, thats what this is. At least, thats what I think it is going to be.

I highly doubt SOT would perform better than Halo on PlayStation.

Suprised they are putting booty on the podcast.

One thing he is good at is putting his foot in his mouth.

Philness and robot bond seem perfect for it though.

I have a theory, completely based on guesswork so don't ask for proof:

Microsoft isn't just concerned about the profit of the Xbox division and its failure in this generation. The success of the Steam Deck also worries them.

The Steam Deck runs SteamOS, which is based on Linux. Every time a game gets the Deck Verified seal, it means a game that is capable of running well on Linux, making Valve increasingly, little by little, independent of the Windows OS.

In all these years, Microsoft has never had this concern. If it had, Games for Windows Live wouldn't have been the garbage it was, nor would the Xbox app/Windows (Horror) Store.

I guess we will see MS own portable, capable of running Gamepass, to compete against Deck before it gets bigger.

This is pretty much bang on what I expect I would be shocked if anything more concrete comes from this.
