thats why a lot of ppl keep talking shit about No Man's Sky while praising Starfield for mediocrity, some people are so stubborn that they prefer to play a average game over a good one.
I'm not sure it's about preference as much as it is impression. No Man's Sky isn't the same game it was when it released. But at release it failed to live up to standard Sean Murray set for it and that's the impression most people were left with. There are so many new games releasing all the time that it's not surprising that people would want to try new ones before they go back and try an old one that they didn't like the first time. Plus, not everyone who plays games follows them in discussions like this. People who played NMS at launch may not know that the game is better now.

So I don't think it's as much liking to play average games over good games as much as it is developers blowing their opportunity to create a memorable experience the first time around. CP2077 is going to suffer from that with this update and Starfield will as it receives updates. Old games that get fixed aren't going to get the same attention as new games.

Cyberpunk isn’t much of an RPG anymore but it’s a pretty good action adventure game.

So...completely redone skill trees are not admission that they were badly designed in the first place?

Okay...
I'm gonna be super real here.

What they did with the new system was just remixing most of the elements that were already there in a better way and with some cool addon like the long dash or some cool melee moves.

But like, most of the melee was already there, the hacking was there, the gun personalization was there etc, now it just make more sense, even the new relic system in the dlc with cool stuff like applying hacks with the monowire is just combining 2 elements that were already in the game, monowire+hacks.

If you didn't liked how gunplay and melee felt at launch, you are not gonna find much difference with 2.0, IA is still hit and miss (but better).

Police system is still all kinda of clunky and clearly not designed from the core.

It is a way better system but hardly a revolution.

They fixed some builds but also broken others like total stealth hacking not being feasible anymore and no suppressors on magnum so you have less option for one-shot weapons during stealth.

I'd just try to play both. The cost of entry isn't high these days and I think both are damn great.

If you're playing on PC then it might be a good idea to start with Cyberpunk and wait for more Starfield patches/mods. It's already shooting up the ranks on Nexusmods and will only get better once the Creation Kit is released next year.

im sorry to hear that, FF16 has a far better soundtrack.
I haven't heard the entire FFXVI OST yet since it's not on streaming services and it's so huge. FF always has top tier music. It's a huge downside though that he didn't record any of it with live instruments. Pretty surprising honestly given some of the high quality audio stuff they put even into stuff like FFX HD, which sonically sounds 100x better than XVI.

Starfield OST is really unique to gaming. Reminds me at times of a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie melody, or 70s sci-fi and it all sounds great. I was just checking out a full live concert for it yesterday they already put on youtube. It's the best OST Bethesda has had in a game since Morrowind. So many timeless themes and strong melodies that are blended into atmospheric, soundscape-ish orchestration that fits with a more open world setting. Combining those two things well is difficult and he does it over and over. Easily the best OST of Inon Zurr's entire career.

If you're into XVI that's fine. I literally just said what I like. You can keep your sympathy lol.

Pretty sure the meat of both games are in the dynamic sidequests. Witcher 3 was the same way. I enjoyed Witcher Contracts more then the actual main quest.

Faction Questlines and key "Missions" in Starfield set up lore and Universe building. Stuff like Terrormorphs, Derelict Ships, Alien Life on O2 filled planets, cross faction skirmishs in Space all serves to flesh out the Universe.

Sidequests in CP serve to increase your reputation but also flesh out what Night City is like and how Nomads, Street Gangs, Police Forces, Corporations, Netrunners all interact with each other. Kinda wish I could play as a NCPD Officer though. Would be fun to just be a Cybernetic Supercop instead of Mercenary.

Not sure why we need to play this game of "my game is better then your game".

both looked pretty lame though.

starfield has enemies just standing in the open and shooting and overall looks tame.
cyberpunk's mech has terrible aim and a bunch of scripted events where you're invincible.

havent played either, but gonna play both.

You really have nothing better to do than come in a thread about two games, neither of which you've played, just to say "they look lame"? 🤣

I can't really say but, I do know that I have NEVER witnessed a game talked about or compared to as Starfield - especially for this long. It's genuinely suprising to me.

Someone said the update nerfed all the Cyberpunk mods. Sucks if true.

This post is really funny when one of the more in depth series of side quests involves street racing events lmao
random side quests arent a actual
Cyberpunk is objectively a better game on just about any metric I can conceive but I would rather play Starfield. I have no idea why.
cyberpunk gameplay loop is do mission get bigger gun repeat ,there is zero exploration unlike starfield that at least breaks up the autonomy of it all, also most npc in starfield you can talk to while cybperunk npsc are all props

Starfield's music is good/great but honestly imo it just comes across as "generic space epic fluff." It doesn't stick with me or feel like it has distinct themes the way other games like FF16 or TOTK does.

Random sidequests? Bro, there is an entire storyline involving multiple quests and street races lmaoooo

I wouldn't be surprised if most people feel that way honestly. But I am just stunned by the amount of memorable melodies and themes in the game. As I said above, they are purposefully blended into more soundscape orchestration so they don't interfere with immersion in an open world setting and risk oversaturation, but the melodies are there and there's a ton. The main theme, and a dozen more tracks. The New Atlantis track instantly transports me to that area. Been listening to it in my car a ton, and even that has a really nice melody hidden in the middle / end of the song blended in.

I like the chill and ambient atmospheric stuff in it.

But yeah, nothing touches Soule's work he did with Howard & co. His compositions really gave those games identities and feels in ways I cant put into words.
1) Morrowind
2) Starfield
3) Oblivion
4) Everything else from BGS

That's my personal OST ranking from them. I'd have to revisit Fallout 3. Been a long time.

with over 3.5 days of in game time in Starfield (and having loved the game!), I can confirm you are talking 20000% out of your ass when you claim that Starfield is a superior RPG, they both are very similar in terms of their RPG mechanics on offer, and if you want a true "Role-Playing" experience, it's far easier to find that immersion in CP2077 over Starfield and it's various oddities and weird exclusions.

Cyberpunk easily had better characters, better dialogue, a better narrative and better side quests overall. The faction quest for the Crimson Fleet came close but the other faction quests are quite average in Starfield.
I will agree with this but I have more fun with Starfield then Cyberpunk, there is so much to do in Starfield then CP 2077. I have 5 days played in Starfield & even didn't scratch main story, I'm doing random faction/mission quests, have fun with Starship builder/outpost builder & exploring planets/moons. There is strange magics in Starfield what I cant find in CP 2077.

No magic in CP, but you have the cyberwar and quick hacks.

the gameplay loop of cybeprunk is a weak attempt at gta and a far cry game, its nota rpg at all
I’ve just played it too much can’t say anything particularly negative about it, was my GOTY and is on my all-time top 10, definitely a RPG.

Starfield just released though and it’s strangely addictive and I have more stuff to do and I just enjoy it more right now.

No idea what I would think if both were unplayed.

At least I can actually play Starfield. I played Cyberpunk at launch and don't remember my game crashing at all. Maybe once or twice, I don't know, but that fact that I don't remember it means it probably was rare for me. This latest trash they just put out crashes more than it works.

Guess I'll wait a bit longer to experience the so called "greatest redemption arc in gaming".

Gambit2483 Gambit2483 Kacho Kacho I'll just post one last time on it since I haven't really had much chance to discuss the OST in detail with people yet. I don't expect most people to really agree with me though so no worries.

I've played the entire game on headphones so far, and it's just so cool to be playing really long and immersive sessions with a lot of background ambience, and then out of nowhere a strong melody like this just floats in. You barely even notice it start it's so well blended into the rest of the sound, but he just really leans into simple and catchy and then blends back out before you even fully stop to mentally take note of it.

Or just exploring the surface of Mars next to that giant landing pad and out of nowhere you get this pseudo Interstellar-lite melody at 1:17 while you're just out exploring and you're just like damn where did that shit come from? Then fades back out seamlessly.

New Atlantis is like an ambient Mass Effect Presidium style track, and then out of nowhere he just drops this catchy Morrowind style melody in your ear at 2:50 and then it floats away before you mentally stop to take you out of the moment.

Almost every track is like this. Just tons of super catchy melody perfectly blended in all over, but still serving the purpose of immersion. I posted the Triumvarate track earlier, but that has a sick melody just drop once at 1:45 that really catches my ear, and then it floats away. Peaks and Valleys has a sick, super subtle flute part that I love at around 2:00 where they change to a new line with the rest of the orchestra cutting out, and then they just slowly lay into the heavy, darker melody overlapping. Just sick as fuck. And then it changes again after that to another really cool melody at 3:00. A masterpiece of a track.

To me, Starfield felt like some of the most awesome shit ever for about 15 hours. Then I was all of a sudden like "Okay I get it" and just rapidly lost interest to continue.

But Cyberpunk Im playing 2.0 and the DLC right now for my 3rd play through, and its still awesome the whole way throughout. Actually even better than ever with the 2.0 improvements.
