Hard to give a fuck when a studio that's had every possible warning of their idea not hitting with the public at all but chose to ignore it at every step and even acting like shit with the fans that got them where they were.Go wokego broke. Thanks to theold team for the memories of SR 1,2,3,4 and a big fuck you to the snowflake losers who buried the studio with their woke garbage.Bye bitch.
sometimes i wonder just how much of this is being triggered by generational staff turnover, & a younger group of people far too disproportionately influenced by social media. i'm convinced that it's gotta be one of the things contributing to this...

Saints Row 2 and 4 were excellent games, sad to see Volition never getting their chance at redemption but to be fair they had 10 years to do it and both times failed miserably. Management was incredibly stupid for the decisions they made.

I never like to see people out on their ass without a job but boy if there ain't some karma at work here.

Anyways, the good news is that Embracer will probably sell the IPs eventually. Who do we want handling the SR/Red Faction games? NOT Ubi.

Red Faction Guerrilla multiplayer was fun back in ps3 days. probably the most fun claymore kills than any other game.
you plant it in the building and the guy and whole room go in the air

couldn't believe they made such a huge mistake when they put the whole next game underground. what a shame.
I was excited to see more polished open world but we got that shit called RF Armageddon where you play underground the whole time -___-

Way to go to show your shit gaming cred by quoting two weakest IPs they did.

This is a company that made fucking Summoner and Freespacw 1&2.
Developers aren't immortal. The Volition developers from 30 years ago aren't the same developers who have had their studio closed recently.

This is why someone like Post-Anthem Bioware is on the clock with EA, and guess what...

I still play Freespace 2 with the MediaVP Graphics mod, looks stunning and plays just as awesome as it did.

This whole game stunk like it was written by dipshit zoomers from r/antiwork. Like they lived in some echo chamber and thought all they had to do was pander to people in that echo chamber.

Jokes on them, when you tailor your consumer relationship based on the demands of a niche demographic, you'd better pick a demographic that makes enough money to buy the things they constantly bitch about. It was a doomed model from the foundation.

I also love it.

Very sad. The latest saints row was such a high quality reeeee game.

Drinking game: take a shot every time someone on the Era thread says "I hope they land on their feet,"

It's not the sentiment I find weird, but the cultish hivemind lockstep speech. It's fascinating from a human observation standpoint.

Also, don't take a shot every time you see it, you'll be dead by page 3.

All of this could have been avoided had they just made a good game, the market is hungry for GTA clones and they have squandered that opportunity.
Seeing Forspoken, Immortals of Aveum and Saints Row all fail so spectacularly might at least dissuade other studios from this cringe worthy style of writing.

the other place is having a total meltdown. Highly embarrassing

The blame over there is being placed on big evil Embracer's shoulders. Fact is that if the games were any good and made bank for Embracer then the decision to close wouldn't even have been under consideration.

A lot of that is down to the developer. Just recently we heard the story that Atlus would've closed if Persona 3 had flopped. What saved them was changing direction and making something with broader appeal. Maybe Volition didn't get that memo, maybe they did - perhaps their focus testing was just dogshit and they truly believed woke college students would bring them to the NPD sales data promised land.

Closures suck for those involved but gaming is also a business. If your studio can't bring in enough money to sustain itself then it's inevitably headed to the chopping block. No parent company is going to keep throwing money at something without a return on investment - not even a studio they just bought a few years ago. I'm still bitter to this day about Sony killing off Japan Studio, but if they weren't contributing fiscally then part of me can understand. It shouldn't even take a dirty capitalist or corporate nob gobbler to point that out, it's just basic economic reality.

It's also telling how a lot of the good memories people had attached to Volition were for Red Faction Guerilla and Saints Row 3. Those were over 10 (nearly 15) years ago. No one seems to have much good to say about their recent output and yet somehow it's a fucking tragedy they're gone... at least Japan Studio helped put out bangers like Bloodborne and The Last Guardian (and Knack II baby) in their twilight years.

I'd bet the modern state of Volition was yet another example of a once great developer Ship of Theseus'ing itself through staff turnover into something incompetent. There might be a 30 year legacy of games to the company's name but it stops being meaningful when only a handful of people there even contributed to them.

What they should had done with SR is keep making them, but make them more serious like the first few SR games way back. Considering GTA games take forever to come out, anyone itching for a B-tier GTA game could play SR games while waiting for GTA.

Instead, they made the games super goofy, sales dropped and reviews got worse worse too.

Well, even though The Third was the best game they've made for the last however many years, it's sucks that ther'll be no more SR games anymore or even something as stupid af as Agents of Mayhem. I hope they'll fine new place to work, there was a lot of talanted people there.
