Matt Booty: "We are in a unique position to spend Sony out of business"

Yeah, but a healthy business does not need to brainstorm ways to remove/'destroy' their competitors.

A moral absolutely doesn't.

And shouldn't we at least want companies to be moral? After all, in some countries they are legally people.
Well, the system (and human nature) rewards behavior like this, so I don't see it changing.

Ofc they do. But like I said context is important. We dont have another player able to counter anything happening here and buying two of the biggest publisher in the span of 2 years will have a big impact on competition. Didnt he said in another email that they want to content starve sony?
I don't know what to tell you here. I'd love for every bigger company that has a defacto monopoly somewhere (Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, etc.) to be heavily regulated. But some people have sound arguments why that would destroy the market. So if you leave the market alone, big players will obviously do shit like this to small players because they can. Microsoft, from their position, behaving like they should in this market. They're not here to make friends, they're here to make money. Sony and Nintendo are also in it for the money. Countering and removing competition is part of the business. In theory, another big player could enter the market and compete with Microsoft. No one is stopping Apple or Samsung or Tencent to make a gaming device. In a sense, Apple are already dominating the mobile gaming space, not Nintendo. And obviously Apple will have thought about Nintendo and Nintendo will have thought about Apple.

So, I don't know, man. I see your argument and agree with it but it's well within the rules of the game, so to speak. And I don't care enough about all these billion dollar companies to feel sorry or cheerful for one or the other, to be really honest. They're all shitty in their way (even Nintendo).

if it wasn`t for the regulatory system in Japan MS would`ve probably just bought Sony outright. Their combined spending over the years including the ABK offer isn`t even far from Sony´s total market cap....

lay it out for me boss, Im sure it will be a stupid reach like always.
You were banned before for trolling, so I know you're immune to facts.

This email was from December 2019, and 9 months later, they announced Zenimax acquisition. This means this falls right into their plan to run Sony out of Business because this was the beginning of the acquisition spree.

If it didn't mean anything, then regulators would have treated it as such, but they're using it against Microsoft.

So you can reach to damage control this.

Sony is almost twice of Activision, even if Japan were to agree, many of the regulators around the world would block it.

The surprising thing about comments like this is that anyone is surprised about comments like this.

It‘s a gigantic corporation. This is how they operate. And it’s why it’s so stupid to align yourself to any of them, or show some sort of misplaced loyalty.

All those emails dont mean shit when you re playing defense against a company that is doing everything they can to push you out of the market.
Meanwhile the bombshell email from lying crying ryan gets ignored on this forum. Lol.
Sony isn't acquiring publishers to stop all their future games from being released on their platform.

Acquiring big publishes requires regulators to investigate...

Time exclusive deals?

It doesn't.

If this was comparable, then Sony's exclusive deal with Capcom for Street Fighter 5 would have seen all future Capcom games skipping Xbox.

Well obviously every one of these big companies are absolutely crap. Believe me I know that, but I can't hear these free market shit anymore. Iam sorry but there soo many instances where the goverment is giving assignments to specific companys or giving money to companys who threat the goverment that they will fire people if they dont get money etc.

I know iam living in a wonderland and reality dont work like this but the biggest companys deservs to be heavily regulated. Imo the biggest one like anazon/google/apple/Microsoft should even broke into pieces which would make it easier for other company to enter specific markets.

Sony was trying to kill xbox. They were using and abusing their market position to do this. Buying pubs was the last defense xbox had if they wanted to survive.
Sony and their annoying TOTAL DOMINATION fans brought this upon themselves.

He seems to be referencing game pass like services, which I don't think are sustainable.
Currently game pass is way too cheap for MS to make money on it, it will keep creeping up in price until it gets to the point of not being worthwhile for most people and only those that game constantly will see good value in it.

Yeah MS would buy every dev Publisher out there if they could, it’s that easy. THANK YOU CMA. Only ones with half an iota of sense.
Yeah, I agree that it seems the CMA are the only ones with a clue. The Xbox fanboys on Twitter were even more insufferable when CMA blocked the buyout.

It’s just bewildering how they are so blinded by Xbox ‘winning’ that they have no idea that buying publishers out will likely have a long term negative effect on their hobby. If there is no competition for them, they can do whatever they want and charge whatever they like.

Buying publishers was the last chance in order to survive. LOL

Microsoft was picking up time exclusive deals left and right, so that excuse won't work.

It comes down to games. Sony had around 14 studios and was able to put out major first party titles that sold millions while Xbox was putting out the same titles over and over again. That's not PlayStation's fault, that's Microsoft's.

You don't blame Sony for Microsoft's inability to compete. They had opportunities to buy studios YEARS ago but they didn't.

Do you really think it's Sony's fault for Microsoft's lack of Major first-party title releases within the past 6 years?

Exactly.

And what people dont even see about that 2019 comment...its was not just a comment,it was a reaffirmation of intent.

What we are seeing now, didn't start in 2019...it started as far back as 2015. A year after Spencer took over. There was a clear shift or change in direction with Xbox. A new strategy. That new strategy is what we are seeing now... all coming together. It was not just one thing.

like this shit is so obvious to me I don't get how there are people here that don't get it.MS was not even hiding it. Well, as they say...common sense isn't common.
Believe certain xbox 'fans' suddenly collectively dropped their iq to 20, or believe they are arguing in bad faith. I wonder which is likelier.

You need to look at the Sega situation again.

To be fair, Nintendo had ample opportunity to buy Rare fully and didn't. They didn't want to. Even Rare's founders were puzzled why Nintendo never took that plunge. Instead, they sold off their stake in the company and let Microsoft have them.

Man this is making me nostalgic for the PS360 era where this very forum voted Sony most likely to get out of the console business by a wide margin. What a time to be alive.

How is this the smoking gun y'all are trying to make it out to be. Sony is literally do the same thing just on a smaller scale. Silly ponies
You just proved our point.

"on a smaller scale"

Regulators don't care about things on a smaller scale because it doesn't dramatically change the competitive market.

Your argument can't be, "does it too" whenever Microsoft is trying to buy a publisher. The fact that you're using this argument only shows you have no idea what's going on.

Microsoft is showing they're not trying to harm the competition. That's why they're trying to show the regulators that they're willing to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. They're doing these moves in order to get the deal approved and this email contradicts what they've been telling the regulators.

The Stampers have the 51%, Nintendo the 49%
After Microsoft buy the 51% and control the Rare, Nintendo dont have really a choice because they really dont have control

And the Stampers know the reason well why Nintendo dont buy them, Rare was at the end of the N64 and the Launch of the Gamecube a Dissaster, their games failed to sell well, dont have Launch games ready and they bleed lots of talento because of Free Radical steal alot employees

Bro this entire site is like a Sony defense force. Y'all acting like their backroom lawyers meanwhile Sony is just as scummy as Ms in their daily dealings People here act like Ms trying to make these moves is MS hurting a family member or something.
Wow you guys really are triggered by this :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I get it, I’d be annoyed to if I had to defend the indefensible.

As I said, this e-mail is tailor-made for regulators. Not only do they want to ice out Amazon and Google, but they recognize and identify Sony as the only company stopping them from having the monopoly they seek AND they identify that they can SPEND them out of business...

In the 3 years proceeding this e-mail they spent Microsoft's massive Office 365 and Azure money on buying Bethesda and Activision. This is why they're uniquely capable of doing it. There's no way that XGS can afford this deal, only Microsoft can.

Ultimately, we'll see if the judge will allow the injunction, but after this e-mail, I don't know how she doesn't.

Again, this e-mail is going to be stapled to every acquisition Microsoft tries in the future in gaming and probably even outside of gaming.

The big difference is that his statement wasn't hyperbolic. Microsoft has the means to do exactly what he said, and we're seeing their plan in action right now.
Difference with what? I would love to be the only player in a market... Every business wants to be the only player. It's just not realistic.

The article is from 2020 and covers their strategy up to PS4 "and continue to work on PS5". You should read it.
The difference is Sony made good games to gain market share and can now capitalise on it - just like MS did with exclusives during the ps3 era.
MS gave you nothing during last gen yet here you are sucking pills dick because he wants to gobble up the market. Poor old Microsoft, the trillion dollar company!

Not ignored, can't even be discussed

Bullshit. It has been discussed fully in the acquisition OT.

It's not. Everything here will be spun into some huge anti-Xbox controversy, but it the real world, MS is making the FTC look like a clown show. All of these emails from 2019 are normal business emails that every company would have.
