Did you actively choose one of the 6 endings or just explore and kill as you liked till the credits rolled? Did you consciously follow a particular questline or go with whatever came to you?

I'm not about to claim one process is more valid, we can all play however we like (and yes, FROM is really to blame for their plots being so convoluted and poorly delivered)

What informed your decision to go with that ending?

As always with From games: first run is blind, then either look up other endings for second run, or return to an earlier save. You really shouldn't look up how to get any of the endings first time through. Ruins the experience a bit.

Title is poorly worded then. I don't mean looking up endings, I'm asking whether you got the default ending (by just going straight ahead and ignoring dialogue or questions) or a considered one (following ranni's quests, for example)
You don't need a guide to end up with a different ending on purpose

Maybe the title should have been "did you end up with the default ending on your first playthough?"

Welp. Too late now

I somehow stumbled upon the place where Ranni’s quest ends, so I could enjoy the objectively best ending of the game.
If I had gotten one of the “regular” endings I’d probably have smashed my TV and my console. Imagine going through this game and getting… that.

I managed to complete all questline requirements for 4 different endings without a guide somehow and then save scummed to see them all when I knew I’m at the final boss

I never really understood why Ranni's ending was considered the good ending

Blind until I stumbled on the Ranni ending and then looked up what to do there as I was 90% done with it at that point

First run was blind and I got the Age of the Stars ending.
I also met the requirements for other endings. Technically I chose the ending, since it was pretty obvious at the end of each quest that I was unlocking a new ending, and I decided to go with Ranni's.

Unlike most dumbasses I play blind, dont seek out shit. Wasnt even that hard of an ending to get, the one with the blue sexy chick. Was a shit ending tho and after I was done, I watched all the others to see if it was just this one and nope, they are all shit which I should've expected since no souls game has ever had a good ending except maybe Sekiro and Bloodborne but Sekiro's true ending is impossible to get without looking it up. Ridiculous stuff.

I finished it without guidance. I watched the other endings on youtube and once again I felt sorry for those who played this game for the story.

On my first run, I did the Ranni's questline and it was clear it was leading to a specific ending.

Then I stumble upon the Frenzied Flame Fingers. I decided to stick to that because it was obviously something I will not do often in my subsequent runs (reaching them is a pain).

I purposefully went for the Ranni waifu ending with no RAGRETS. Then I re-uploaded my file from USB and became Elden Lord, then re-uploaded it again, met the 3 fingers and burnt all that shit.

To actively choose an ending means you looked up the endings and how to get them which is just dumb IMO.

I played and made decisions based on what I thought at the time.

Played with a guide so to not miss any major content, which means that by the end I had all I needed for any of the endings, so I just picked the one I wanted

I haven't chosen an ending yet. I think I'm stuck with the frenzied flame one but I haven't actually finished the game cause I don't want to accidentally block myself from being able to play coop with my buddy. A friend and I are still in the process of helping him with malenia and some other areas.

You aren't stuck, you can escape the Frenzied Flame ending with Miquella's Needle.

Well yes, afterwards I did, but getting Moon Waifu's ending is very obvious and not that hard to achieve. Frenzied Flame is the one that you need to read about IMO.

I have 2 endings left for the 1000 or whatever Xbox calls their Plat. Prolly should get those before the DLC kick in.

I mean I get it in regards to don't miss anything but on the other hand the whole experience of exploring and joy from finding stuff on your own isn't there, right?

Kill shit until I see credits roll.
YouTube the other endings.

Game overstays its welcome the 1st run, ain't nobody got time to do all of that again.

I went for Ranni’s ending because I think you had to do Blaiid’s quest as part of her quest in order to get his armor, which I wanted. So I ended up just doing her whole quest since I was already partly committed to it.

Then I accidentally got myself fingered and locked into the chaos ending, so I had to look up how not to be locked into that. Didn’t really like the Ranni ending.

My man, we were like brothers....But now I know that you play on XBox. Friendship over.

/s

Thought we were lovers.....

Heh. Had a noisy ass PS4PRO and bought an Series S and the rest in history.

Have a PS5 now and I'm game for new run but ER is still pretty expensive and I should just finish up my couple hundred hour S version.

Btw why the Xbox hate brother!

We were lovers...all those nights I will never forget. Your warmth when you held me...but I cannot in good conscience be friends with a person with an XBox. The worst console ever! With stats below 80s Ataris!

Go to go for that platinum ... and so I did.

And still rank Elden Ring as the worse souls type game after DS2

A bit of both. First I just finished it with no deeper thought. Then I went for other endings. Still have 3 left but I don’t like them so not sure if I’ll bother, would just do it for achievements in that case. I’m more interested in playing again to try other builds and find all areas.

I knew you were young and told me you craved the experience of a real man. I still appreciate the kindness you both gave to me. The pasta, the wine, the hidden camera... blissful..

But it all makes sense now. The lack of utter amazement of buying the OG Xbox on launch day with Halo CE, DOA3, PGR, JSR Future, Panzer Dragoon....

I'll teach you the ways of what Xbox truly meant =3

You truly didn't feel the power of Xbox when i came in you?

If the game gave me anything to start with, I would agree, but the quest system in souls games is so obtuse and uselessly cryptic that I'm not gonna bother... For most quest is up to complete luck if you are gonna stumble onto a new step of a quest line or never see an npc ever again... And the game is already big as it is without bloating it with a lot of going around randomly just in the hope to stumble onto somebody I know in a random place of an immense world map.

Lol I don't think I did any quest for those reasons. I just wanted to explore like I did in BotW. Finishing up NPC quest are for NG+

PS I get it though <3

First play through blind, which ment I missed ALOT of stuff. After that I went and read some thing, found out about the different endings then went about doing them in ng+. Was pretty cool heading into the deep roots, under volcano manor and some other smaller areas I missed and getting these whole new areas and bosses.
