Xbox just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about American culture (I'm an expert), but money and capitalism are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Japan where you can become successful by being hardworking. If you screw someone over in America, you bring obesity and high cholesterol to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is through a gastric band.

What this means is the American public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection for any system, nor will they purchase any of Xbox's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Xbox has alienated an entire market with this move.

Xbox, publicly apologize and release The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection for Series S or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Xbox is getting a mainline Dragon Quest game day one, possibly on GamePass day one, fans should be counting their blessings instead of worrying about petty stuff like some shitty remasters where Square Enix couldn’t even get the font right.

You sure. My understanding is that no platforms for the next DQ have been confirmed as of yet, it could very well be a PS exclusive

So no more complaining about not getting FF, etc., right? Right?
No, you'll still get "old guard" fans complaining about the situation, but there's only like 14 of them left so you'll really only hear them where old guards congregate

This is an odd take tbh.
Not really. FF Online is a big deal. Mainline FF is a moderate, diminishing asset. Outside of those two titles Square Enix produces shovelware. They're the 42 year old hot chick who still thinks it's 2003 and no one can see the 30lbs they put on.

Question, why FFXIV isn't available on Xbox (yet)? If I remember correctly, Xbox and SE were seriously discussing about it. Well?

Someone mentioned that apparently Xbox denied it, which I find hard to believe because Wtf else would they have been doing then.

I think it was because Microsoft required to have the Gold subscription to play it. I'm not sure.

It's called xbox series s. Especially in regards to final fantasy. Square are probably like, our main game barely sells on your platform and you want us to waste time and resources porting to it and optimising for series s? Before hanging the phone up on them.

Wasn't that dropped on free to play and MMOs when the Gold price increase attempt imploded? That shouldn't be holding FFXIV up now.

Makes sense. I can’t imagine it’s an easy feat to get the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters to run on XSS. They may need help from Jason Ronald himself on that impossible port.

There could be some social/cultural factors at play here as well. For all we know, at some point during a meeting between members of the SquareEnix and Xbox teams, someone from Xbox committed some breach of decorum that is considered a serious offense and it was never properly addressed or apologized for. SE is still a very Japanese company, and matters of respect tend to be very important in the culture because of the dense population. Sales has already been mentioned and doubtlessly that has a significant impact on things. If SE's games don't really sell on Xbox, there's no real reason for SE to work at the relationship with Xbox. Especially since they've sold off all their western facing IPs that would've drawn more Xbox gamers in (Hitman, Tomb Raider, etc.)

Ultimately, it probably makes little difference. I imagine the number of gamers who mainline Xbox aren't going to reconsider their purchase of a Series console because SE likely won't put most of it's games on the console. Despite all the console warring, at the end of the day, the three console platform holders have unique cultures and philosophies that draw certain times of gamers in--this tends to be what inspires the whole "console citizenship" mindset which leads to platform loyalty and, in a number of cases, console warriors.

A lot of SE games won't be coming to Xbox. And a lot of Bethesda titles probably won't be coming to PlayStation. It still leaves everyone with the same 3 basic choices:

1. Buy all consoles
2. Pick a single console to mainline and supplement with PC (or mainline PC and forego some exclusive titles altogether)
3. Decide which games you can live without and buy the console that retains the ones you can't live without.

I mean, Xbox has never needed Square Enix, where its a major deal for Playstation for Jrpg console sales. 360 proved this as well making all that jrpg fan appeasement fruitless in the end. it was always a Wrpg brand and now it has 4 of the bigger studios in that genre making games only for Xbox. Final Fantasy 16 does nothing for Xbox.

The new narratives have been born.
