Redfall Is Always Online Even In Single-Player, Bethesda Confirms

Context is important. He was clearly talking about video games. He even went out of the way to explain what he meant and why. He doesn’t like the video game characters.
Sure Jan GIF

I'm sorry, but that's not going to stick.

False equivalency. You can play offline any time want you too in Fromsoft games. This Redfall shit is anti-consumer greed.

That's what I was vaguely pointing at. There is no need for alway online here, developers who are winning hearts and minds are doing much more with greater flexibility in the user experience. Always online hinders pick up and play, quick resume, fucks up menus, etc

I'm not going always online just so I can buy a fucking hat, and I plan to never group up. Give me interesting interactions in an online way, and let me turn it off.

It is only then that I will consider a new scarf. Everyone is planning for owning the market, and acting confused that a user base never materializes.

So are there people in your game world whether you co-op or not?

Like is it an MMO-lite like Destiny where you are on a server with a few people and there are "public events" and whatnot?

You don't need the online subs to access the single player games.

You will in Diablo 4
Paying for online does suck, but not required for single player games that require internet connection. Well for Xbox at least. Don't know about PlayStation.

Xbox LIve is only required to play multiplayer, with the exception of F2P games. Those can play multiplayer without xbox live.

Ah well that’s good.

I refuse to buy any single-player or single-player capable game with this shit.
Anyone who thinks this is okay is a fucking idiot. It's not just about preservation, it's about whether or not fucking game you paid for works on any given day based on whether their servers are working and secure. It was bullshit when GT7, AC, Outsiders and all 3 Hitman games did it, it's bullshit now.

Soon don soon, your time will come

Isn't this kind of ironic considering you're in a thread about a MS purchased publisher doing it right now?

This was probably going to happen with or without Microsoft purchasing Zenimax, but you can bet top brass had no complaints about it.

Microsoft has been slowly implementing their DRM initiative into Xbox directly and indirectly. From 10 years ago, I knew throwing Mattrick under the bus was just for show. Making the platform hinge on Gamepass does enough of the trick, but the Series consoles in and of themselves, and the first party games that Microsoft releases on disc are borderline paperweights without online. People don't like acknowledging that even after the Xbox outage last year.

It seems that Xbox want to expand in countries like India and middle east but they think that everywhere is like america and they have constant internet access. Even in Europe there are places that internet is not always stable and you have here people claiming to understand their brand but can't see over their eye sight.

Exactly. Microsoft showed their hand when they were going to make the Xbone mandatory always online. It's clearly still their fucking end goal. They just learned they couldn't do it all at once and instead have to implement it slowly over time. It's the death of ownership by a thousand cuts.

Ah, lets see how this gets treated.
Last year it was a problem for GT7. But pretty sure the tone and narrative will change now that an Xbox game is doing it…..
Yep already has , there is people defending this shit 2 posts above yours.... This crap is a problem, especially on single player games.
Some pc games can get by this with hacks and cracks. No such thing for console games though. Thing is it shouldn't ever be a thing.

Remember the backlash XBone got for it at launch for "awlays online..xbox phone home"....guess they waited for a new generation of fanboys to be ok with it. Get people used to digital only and slide it in the backdoor when no one was looking.

Crying about always online in 2023? Who cuts off the internet after downloading a game?
Not the point. Say you want to play on steam deck, now you can't.... Wait until elder scrolls gets the gaas always online treatment. Its the day i say you don't get my money. and pirate that shit.

OR when servers get cut, as you know they will, you will be out of a game. As someone who has a 500+ game backlog, I don't always play games right away, sometimes years, decades later. I expect it to work on system it was bought for years later. Can't do that with always online single player.

In games like Skyrim, I prefer to play as the Nord, Khajit, or Argonian, but I will never see myself as playing as a Dark Elf, Orc, or Red Guard. It's a preference thing.
It's like I don't want to be forced to play a male character doing gay romances in video games, me being straight, I find that shit uncomfortable and off putting.

I think that could be easily removed at a later point with a final update patch before the onlines servers shutdown, as long as the patches are downloadabale of course.

guy tries to explain why he's not? a racist homophobe

outs himself as a furry lol

I don't deny it.

I also hate woke culture.

And I'm an advocate of bringing sexy female character models in video games. I hate when games make females all masculine, ugly, and old. I don't want that shit in my video games + they don't sell well.

If it's some sort of background verification I don't think it's that big of an issue.
If it's like Diablo 3 on PC (at least at launch) where you could actually get lag while playing alone then that's a dealbreaker.

All this does is ensure I'll only play it via Game Pass and will never purchase it. I'm not going to buy a product whose single player content will, by design, be a coaster in the future. Same reason I haven't bought GT7.

Anyone justifying this because "lulz who doesn't have the internet" doesn't have the mental capacity to understand why this level of DRM is shitty for the industry and consumers. Companies already have consumers by the balls with regards to copyright law, and yet there are people in here cheering for a future where you pay your money but can lose access at any time with no recourse. FOH.

That's a daft reason. What would be "unsmooth" about requiring a connection for coop when you decide to play coop?

It's more likely that this isn't really a single player first game but a GaaS with some shop/mtx element which requires it. A bit like how people were advertising SoT being played solo but it's really a GaaS.
Ideally you would just do it the way MHWorld did it. Whether you are playing single-player or not, you start your session online, and just make it so no one can join. That way you can easily ask others to join later on if you change your mind. But regardless, this game will be heavily geared with Arkane wanting co-op to be as seamless as possible, so whether or not I personally like that I can't play it offline, I get why they are doing it this way. Is my point.

I mean, it's not even their first GaaS right?

But then again
Gran Turismo Ps5 GIF by PlayStation

Same energy people, same energy!

Can't wait for the next big PS first party GaaS game and the world will be on fire again aka "arrogant Sony".

Aren’t there a lot of games that do this nowadays? Used to piss me off but seems weird that it’s newsworthy at this point

oh christ did you not see the GT7 threads, you had fucking religious crusaders announcing that being online only was the greatest thing ever because GT7 did it, and that suggesting otherwise was heresy that required them to trawl through your comment history to discredit you as a person, because they based this on nothing but pure faith and had zero defensible points, loudly declaring "your probably dont even own GT7 OR A PS5" when presented with photographic evidence I do "well your just wrong HERITIC, also your tea sucks" I wish I was joking, I ended up just blocking a bunch of members in the end.

being Xbox or Playstation don't matter, its just being a fanboy, full stop.
Most people were upset about it though. The people who already knew they were getting it were the most bummed because they know they'll likely not be able to play the $70 game in 6 years or whatever.

ANDS

King of Gaslighting
. . .the people assuming folks are shilling for MS and Big Bidness - no one LIKES having to be constantly connected to a game such that a loss of connection will kill progress. You aren't dealing with drooling slaves to a corporation, but folks who realize the game has been up for years now and there's no going back.

Context is important. He was clearly talking about video games. He even went out of the way to explain what he meant and why. He doesn’t like the video game characters.

Come on man. . .like what're you even defending here? At BEST the person you're defending has bad English and doesn't understand the weight of the words they are using. This:

I don't like their ethnic race, their facial structure, or their personality. I just can't relate to them, it feels off.

- doesn't sound good whether you're talking about video games or not. At the very least they could have used code words ("Ugh, I hate how WOKE this cast looks"), but they just went in on the whole hog there.

They wear us down to accept and give in with the long game. Attrition. Apathy.

And remember when it all started with horse armor?
I just feel like this battle is lost at this point. I didn’t buy the Xbox one precisely due to the messaging around “always online” or whatever - now it’s just how it is.
