Is anybody else struggling to get pumped for anything that isn’t PSVR 2 related at the moment?

I can’t say that I am short on great games to play currently, or that there aren’t any great games due to release. However, whilst happily plugging my way through Chained Echoes, it’s always there, in the back of my mind…. ‘GT7 VR… Kayak VR… Horizon VR…’

Dead Space looks amazing, but I‘m not hyped; Hogwarts looks amazing, but I’m not hyped.

Is anybody else suffering with pre-PSVR2 excitement as much as me?

Even when I’m playing GT7, which is still pretty regularly, I’m always imagining what it will be like in VR.

It feels like a curse that only Feb 22nd can break.

I feel the same way. It’s probably because modern gaming largely sucks and almost all the games except for having a different skin are exactly the same gameplay and feature wise.

Innovation in gaming is completely gone so I get why you and I would be hyped by some finally innovative hardware that releases waaaaaay too long from now.

Also since I owned the original PSVR which was awesome, I can’t wait to be amazed by the improvements by this sexy kit.

Maybe it’s because I’m a bit long in the tooth now - been there, done that, like you say. To feel that pang of utter excitement and anticipation is very rare for me nowadays.

Couldn't give a shit about PSVR2. I had the first one. What a piece of garbage that was. Apparently this one's even more expensive and there's no workaround to hook it up to pc, which makes it even more useless than the last one. I'll wait for the Quest 3.
The workaround will be there when someone hacks it in a few days, it’s just a usb c connection so to actually connect it to your pc couldn’t be simpler.

Also, the first one was no garbage at all, but I can see how it would feel that way now with all tech advancements of the last years. And psvr2 is not more expensive, it’s 549 dollars for the complete kit vs 569 for the complete vr1 kit, count 6 years of high inflation with that and the PSVR2 is actually around 25% cheaper than the 1.

I predict Quest 3 will be inferior to the psvr2 in almost every way but lets see when it comes out. If it’s actually good I’ll buy it, but I don’t expect it because the Quest pro is ridiculously expensive and sucks compared to psvr2 specs. There’s no way they’ll make Quest 3 cheap with better hardware than the Pro they sell.

I enjoyed PSVR for what it was, but yes, it was lacking and felt more like a rush job because of the need for separate move controllers and a camera. PSVR 2 just seems more complete to me as a package, which will hopefully help it gain more traction with gamers and devs. And the tech is night and day compared to PSVR.

I don't own a PSVR 2 or a PS5 so I'm having no problem being hyped for other games. Age of Wonders 4 and Armored Core VI are currently my most anticipated games.

I ain't tried it yet obviously. I'd be amazed if they hadn't improved it. The specs seem ok. Not having to use them dumb move things is most definitely a good thing. I guess the first one left a sour taste in my mouth. I got a Quest 2 lying around somewhere and it's pretty neat. I don't use it much, but I'm interested in what they'll do with the next one

It has been a long wait. I conected the old PSVR to the PC and played some racing games these past weeks, just to quench the thirst. Gran Turismo 7 is installed on the PS5, never even started, just waiting the arrival of next gen VR.

VR is kinda the only really exciting thing in gaming right now, everything else feels stale.

Of course that could change when we finally get to see real next-gen games or something like GTA6.

AI could also do a lot like building a ton of assets for open worlds or writing quests.

I doubt you'll even have to hack it.

It's a USB C headset with standard tracking and controllers. Steam will probably support it just fine.

One of the other things that doesn’t get discussed very often is the fact that it negates the need to use the TV. My set-up is in the living room, so I only get to play at certain times. But with PSVR2, I can play it whilst the missus is watching the soaps 😂

Wat. Absurd. Divorce.

Sometimes I wish I could say the same.

That's fair; and to not have the first comment come as a thread shitting: I just have never gotten into VR. I used whatever version of the OCCULUS was around in 2018 to play BeatSaber and this Robot Uprising style game and while BS was fun (and I nearly yelped and ducked when one of those walls came at me) I always felt like I was playing VR. The best usage of it I think I had was playing SUBNAUTICA, but that I couldn't do long term because already the sensation of being underwater was too much for me.

I dunno, maybe it is better half a decade later and with better more bespoke games (I know the "robot" game wasn't true first person as you had to look "point to move" or some shit; not sure if that's a thing anymore in VR), but I've never been particularly wowed by it.

Having already played a lot of the launch lineup elsewhere I'm lukewarm on it, but if the exclusives keep coming I'll pick it up in a year or so.

Yes, I’m sure the entire 2% of ps5 owners who will actually buy a psvr2 are are supper pumped and the rest of us poor heathens have nothing at all to be excited about. /s

I’m pumped for Undisputed early access on the 31st. I’m pumped for MLB the Show 23 ina few weeks, I’m pumped for Spiderman 2 and hopefully Starfield in 2023. I’m hyped for a lot of games that are not on psvr22.

I remember being super excited for my first VR headset, but today I don’t think the technology is exactly where it needs to be.

Plus with each headset I need to buy special prescription lenses and it’s expensive.

I was pumped for PSVR. I bought PSVR. I played PSVR. It was great and then I stopped playing PSVR because it was inconvenient and nothing has changed with PSVR2 but my eyesight is worse so I’m completely deflated.

Not at all OP. I'm more interested in the games that will be dropping in the next months.

As someone who jumped on the hype wagon when PSVR came, after the honeymoon phase, the usage of the device went down the pipe.

I'll wait to see what the general consensus about it is, see what type of games get launched on it and then maybe, more down the road and during a promo, I may binge it.

No way I'm paying 600$ for the device, sorry.

What?
Outside of "Playstation fanboys bubble" on social media (mainly Twitter) I see no excitement for PSVR2.

But I'm certainly not arguing against your preference. But January brought plenty of games to get excited about. Dead Space remake, Hi-Fi Rush, new Fire Emblem...
February has Atomic Heart, Hogwarts Legacy, Wild Hearts, Returnal on PC, Like a Dragon, Octopath Traveller II, Destiny 2: lightfall and Company of heroes 3
And March has Wo Long, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, WWE, Resident Evil 4 Remake.

So yeah. there are plenty of games to be excited about.

I am very excited for PSVR 2 but the CC I used for my preorder was compromised. I hope I get the new CC in very soon and can change my payment method in time. If not, I am going to be very unhappy.

Generally, VR tech excites me. Though I would say, after years of using PSVR and Quest, my hype for VR games has lessened significantly. I find that because of many reasons, VR gameplay is significantly smaller in scope as compared to flat gaming.

VR was supposed to allow gamrplay scenarios that exceeded the ability of controller gaming, and I find that generally isnt the case. The one exception would be concerning non gamers, in this case, it's easier for non gamers to enjoy a game in VR as opposed to a game on a 16 button controller.

PSVR2 is kinda missing the mark for me, I too have the PS5 on a shelf beside the TV but that means I would struggle to use it while someone is watching TV, would have to move the console to another room.

I do understand the idea though, console gaming is tricky, bunch of kids and/or wife is usually occupating the living room until it’s time for bed, it’s why I play lots of PC and Steam Deck nowdays.

As for the starter post. Can’t relate I’m excited for lots of games! Currently I’m looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy, then we’ll probably get Spider-Man 2 soon and Zelda and Starfield, I want to try Hi-Fi Rush too which everybody is talking about now.

It's actually cheaper than the original considering you had to buy a camera and controllers on the side.

Quest is the biggest piece of crap headset on the market because it's owned by Facebook.

I'm with you! VR makes games much, much more immersive, I'm beyond excited to play Demeo, Resi 8, No Man's Sky and many other titles. They are announcing so many games that I want to buy lol

PSVR2 will be the first VR headset I buy (actually, bought it already) which makes it even more special. I absolutely had a blast trying VR some friends have, so I can't wait to have mine.

I’m especially keen try try NMS as I didn’t get chance to play the PSVR version. I’d imagine seeing a giant brain-crab coming at me will definitely arouse stronger feelings in VR haha. I think just ambling around a lush planet will be a really cool experience.

Don't live your life in a constant state of hype.....sounds exhausting, and full of disappointment.
I think that’s the point. The last time that I was genuinely (and I mean to the point of obsession) hyped for a game was on N64 - Mario 64, OOT, etc., I’d argue that since that generation, standard gaming hasn’t really improved that much, only the technology/scope. VR has the potential to spawn games of that ilk. And N64 didn’t set the world on fire with sales, but some of the games have sort of set the template for the future and have still never been bettered in some instances.

The launch lineup doesn't get me hyped. A few nice games but for 600 Euros i'm missing absolute bangers like Half Life Alyx or Astro Bot 2. I think i will wait for a drop in prices.

I get it. The banger for me is GT7. But there is more than enough to keep me entertained until Astro Bot 2 is released, which I have no doubt will be stellar. I suspect it may already be in production and could be ready for the holidays.
