Those in the 21st century don't need a disc versionSo just have the disc version.
Pointless.
So you got nothing but conjecture lol35+ years of gaming and life experience, I don't need a source to tell me that Sony won't charge more than the retail difference between digital and physical edition console. It's called simple analytics, logic and business 101.
I think we get a pro console as well though this might not be it.Hmm that non answer was pretty telling I think it’s obvious they're going to use the same strategy as last generation and it's also obvious the fan reaction will be exactly the same lol
And Factions. That GaaS could be as important as Fornite for Epic.Yes, it will be an important year for them: they will release PSVR2, in theory will be the first one without important chips shortages, they'll start publishing tv adaptations of their IPs, they'll release big exclusives like Spider-Man 2 or Final Fantasy XVI, pretty likely will make a strong year regarding SIE acquisitions and pretty likely will release PS Plus cloud gaming on mobile and tvs. Very likely they'll show or announce big 2nd party projects, many of them not released this year, with different important teams from console (in console the Firewalk/Deviation/Haven/Arrowhead games, in mobile/PC GaaS with different partners as could be the rumored NCSoft game).
Also, very likely it's going to be the year where they'll stop making first party crossgen games and the year where they'll show the first next gen only games starting to take full advantage of the next gen hardware. I don't think they'll release a PS5 Pro this time. All these other things will give them a bump.
Even cross gen games give me 4k 120It would be such a waste to release a pro console, considering so many games are still cross-gen. Dumping cross-gen would be a huge start. Let's see what these consoles can actually do.
Why would you want a nasty extra box next too your console ??Yeah options are terrible now.
/s
SUPPOSEDLY its not just going to be a box sitting there, SUPPOSEDLY its being designed to look like its supposed to be there and "attaches" to the consoleWhy would you want a nasty extra box next too your console ??
Oh...you've seen the console? How do you know it won't fit right into the console's design? Why would you want a nasty extra box next too your console ??
Nah, I think it will be more similar to GT7 or MLB, or to other ND games. Depending on the size it could be even be a Lost Legacy-like title for TLOU, but seems it's going to be meatier than the previous ND games. And Factions. That GaaS could be as important as Fornite for Epic.

2TB Pro console that could run even current cross gen titles at 120 fps and new games at 60 with quality mode?I honestly would buy a $699 Pro console that can handle "Quality" presets in games at 60fps and has a 2TB hard drive in a heartbeat.
Don't give them any ideas. Let them price it in a similar model as they did last gen.I would spend $1000 and not think twice
No. PS5 Slim.Ps5 Pro?
No. PS5 Slim.
I think that is just concept art.Looks aweful, hope they go back to full black.
You think it's conjecture, I call it a prediction. Only time will tell.So you got nothing but conjecture lol
We are simply over thinking this shit. Just pure speculation at this point. On both sides of the argument.Sorry, but you're not considering the real life supply, distribution and marketing implications of implementing this strategy cold at the beginning of a new gen. It would've been a PR nightmare. At least now the market has gotten used to the idea of a digital console so that helps to ease their transition into the new revision next year. And with scalpers losing interest in the PS5 (coupled with the massive amount of stock coming next year), they won't be a factor for the new model either.
Your right. Consumer choices really is so 1995. In 2022, corporations own your asses and you will like it. They will convince you the old way is old fashioned while taking away choices from you. What's wrong with keeping the option there? Why the fuck would anyone want them to take away disc drives and physical media altogether?
In all seriousness, it sounds like the plan for Sony is now:
2020 - PS5 and PS5 DE
2023 - PS5 Slim, with optional optical drive. Original PS5 and PS5 phased out.
20?? - PS6, no optical drive, but supports the above as an optional extra.
Because of market protecc forces that try to position their product With things like wow it looks like a vagina or a router... They needed to establish their presence. Now they could even sell dung balls with a silk ribbon people would buy it no matter what.I don't understand how they didn't think of this right from the beginning. They could have avoided 2 separate SKU, 2 separate assembly lines, molds, licenses, patents. djeez.
The new rumor:
The possible future PS5 Slim console with double SSD storage? (The current PS5 Fat console with PS5 internal SSD hard drive, whose capacity is 825 GB and only SSD storage.)
I believe memory has gotten cheaper. Its why I was able to get a 1TB NVME for less than 100$ at the beginning of this year. I can definitely see Sony increasing the capacity.
I would assume the point would be to drop the $500 SKU.Because then people who don't need the disc drive would have to pay $100 more? I get from Sony's perspective yeah it would be great to make everyone pay $500, but this lets each person decide.
Series X is already a slim compared to the PS5Not to derail the thread but I’m wondering why there are not rumors of a slim Series X.
Isn't the volume barely different? Proper slim would slim down the X to S size. Or at least L size.Series X is already a slim compared to the PS5
