Edge review scores issues #379(GoW:R, Pentiment, Sonic, CoD:MW2, Gotham Knights, etc.)

Some people seem angry. I understand someone dared to criticize Ragnarok and you just have to throw a temper tantrum. Even worse Pentiment got a higher score. I mean, how could they?
I'm guessing most of you haven't even tried Pentiment. Maybe you might then understand, why a game looking nothing like the flashy, with all bells and whistles 3rd person action game, could score higher. If you want to give it a go, you just need a browser and you can try it on Xcloud.

Are you 16 or something? Point and click adventures been around since forever. Just a couple of years ago Disco Elysium won major GOTY awards, and that game has a lot more going on than pentiment.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

What lol
Have you stop to think that you actually have shiity tastes?

You literally on the left field. Out of 137 reviews only 1 aligns with your shitty take. But I guess you are the one right everyone else is wrong 😆
Halo Infinite won GAF’s game of the year last year and was universally critically acclaimed. I’m sure you’ll agree that those scores and awards are not representative of reality.

God of War Ragnarok getting a 7 seems about right to me. Honestly can't believe how boring this is compared to the first game, just offers nothing new or anything really.

Would love to know what world Modern Warfare II is a 6 though, the gameplay and campaign itself are far beyond that.

Even Gotham Knights, a very flawed game but I wouldn't say it's a 5, there's enough good and fun in it to be a bit higher.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
Magazine has become a shadow of its former self. Nothing to do with review scores.

Last month harping on about politics in the UK I want to read a fucking games mag not how shit red or blue are (Mods that's all I'm going to say not trying to stir shit)

Still makes me laff that the prick editor had to leave all of a sudden because of the Death Stranding fallout too.

I'm done with this wankfest magazine, last months issue was utter shite. Glad there's a postal strike for two days as my subs copy hasn't arrived.

In what fucking world is GOW:R a 7? I’m usually tolerant of Edge being a point below most others but that is fucking insane.

Great story.
Great gameplay.
Brilliant characters.
Doesn’t outstay its welcome.
Excellent sound design.
Excellent music.
Excellent camera work.
Some great surprises.

I can understand people not liking the loading masking but damn.

Tbh, those are points to valid their review, same old same old, nothing outstanding from the God of War franchise so far

I don’t need another console at home, really. I have a Switch OLED and thinking of selling it. I’m kind of a minimalist. Pentiment should be fine on my OLED iPhone Pro Max.
You can change the font size on the conversation bubbles that pop up, and everything else is also perfectly readable on a smaller screen than yours. Im on an apple 10r.

Only a few people are complaining, it's no surprise that people are exaggerating what's going on in this thread.

What's funny is that when people criticize God of War, they seem to jump on the low review scores and call it the "Real score."

I'm like 1.5 hours in and man, I can't believe how bad some of the scenes are. Just Kratos being way over the top dramatic like he's about to start crying if his boy even speaks. It's just constant bickering. I do see what people were saying about the waves of enemies dropping in a bowl.

Thor's actor is really good. Really liked him in Sons of Anarchy. That's the highlight for me so far. The fight scene was pretty underwhelming though. Just kind of felt overly cartoonish, and I'm not a fan of the boss UI for glowing yellow / red circles. The boss enemies track you constantly as well since your mobility is so limited, you basically just have evades and that's it. Reminds me a bit of Elden Ring in that sense, but even less mobility. And I forgot how insanely close the camera is. Same as the last game but man, it sticks out after playing Bayonetta 3. I tried to look up at the sky at the frozen lightning after that fight and you can't even point the camera more than like 5 ft up. I'm getting burned out on Kratos going spartan rage because he loves his boy. Like, I get how that can land for some people but it's just not hitting for me and feels cheesy.
Anyway, I loved the first one so I'm expecting it picks up but so far I agree with your take.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
I really liked Gotham Knights, wish it didn’t run like shit even on a 4090

It does pick up but man, my first 15 hours with this game were rough and I wasn't sure I would even finish it.

No better time to hop on board the jester boat and play Pentiment!

Pentiment is not an action game. Think of it like a point and click adventure, without all of the obtuse puzzles and inventory management. It's pretty good so far...but lots of reading. Those with ADD need not apply. So far I'd give it an 8
GOW: 7 seems about right.
Sonic Frontiers: 3 seems very low. I would go a 7
Marvel Snap: 8 seems about right

European reviews are always harsher then american ones, who gives out 10s like candy.

Is anyone allowed to criticise a PlayStation game in your presence without you leaping to PlayStation’s defence?

At least the comments here aren't as bad as what some users were saying against that IGN Korea's reviewer.

So far.

I'd give GoW: R an 8.5 myself. Edge almost always give PlayStation games low scores so this isn't a surprise.

I don't know about that, based on Banjo's post above they seem to have given 10s to more playstation games than other console(s).

God of War: Ragnorak.

But there are just as many false crescendos and annoying Marvel movie quips, and the plot marshalling it all is a bog-standard MacGuffin hunt, culminating in a surprisingly (and, to be fair, deliberately) muted assault on Asgard. If the no-cuts direction brings you closer to the cast, it also produces a narrative that has more plateaus than peaks or troughs – not so much a story as a meandering, open-mic podcast for traumatised divinities, endlessly chewing over the same cautionary nuggets about violence breeding violence while you swat eyeballs or pillage yet another sumptuous blind alley. The combat is beefy enough to carry you through the slower stretches, but even when you're lopping heads off dragons it can feel like what you're really killing is time.
