Checked the Era thread. Bunch of SJW posers who are more concerned about the team promoting depressed trans people to kill themselves or whatever but still claiming to love Silent Hill 2....

.....only to say the lines and scenes are cheesy, and over the top and on the nose and JAMES WOULDN'T DO THAT when literally. Every. Scene. Was. 1. To. 1. Like...have these idiots ever played a game? Or are they like YEAH THAT OLD JANK POS I'M NEVER GONNA PLAY IS SUPES POPULAR SO I'M GONNA SAY I LOVE IT?

So much to ponder.

Looks like the characters are based on the actor's, I spotted the James actor in the Bloober video and Mary/Maria

Looks good, but in a world when the original game is the best horror game ever and one of the best scripts ever, there's little reason to get a remake aside from being an updated version of it

I'll buy for sure, still, chances are that I'll not be that happy

The things that give me some optimism:

-I don't think they'd hype this as much if they weren't confident in it's quality. I don't remember (could have been) any Silent Hill specific events in the Tom Hulett era. The games had trailers and some interviews done, but the promotion was never really PUSHED. They seemed to think that their pond was pretty small, and were satisfied "catering," to niche hardcore fans. Except they sucked, largely. This trailer and showcase seemed to be trying to appeal to people who have never played SH or have lost interest/faith in the IP.

-The presence of two of the original team. Ito and Yamaoka are key, I think. This shouldn't lack the spirit and feel like a paint by numbers inspired by Silent Hill game like so many others have. I will ALWAYS give these projects the benefit of the doubt if the original creators (or some, at least) are involved. They were part of what made the initial experience so memorable, so I err towards trusting the vision of the people who crafted elements of the universe.

-Seems 1:1 with the original. This was a faux paux for something recent like The Last of Us to me, but Silent Hill 2 is old enough to vote, so it's nice seeing the vast amount of detail that the original managed to suck out of the PS2 in modern hardware.

This looks great. Cautiously optimistic given the pedigree of the developer but the visuals look like a big step up from previous works.

Y’all do realize if Sony isn’t “momeyhatting” this it isn’t getting made, right? This is Konami we are talking about

Save your outrage for exclusives that would have been made regardless on multi platforms (like Starfield…)

Apparently, this has been in the oven for quite some time, so I can see it releasing next year...
The Callisto Protocol, this, RE4 and Dead Space Remakes...Horror fans, of whom I am, will be feasting throughout the upcoming 12 months.

If Sony had funded this game then it wouldve been a lifetime exclusive like Death Stranding.

From what I understand, Konami had devs pitch ideas and out of the all the teams, Bloober won. Sony then came in and secured the 1 year timed exclusive. They didnt go to Konami and say hey, we want to make Silent Hill 2, can we have the license?
Correct me if im wrong of course.

Considering how long this has been rumored and the amount of Silent Hill projects there are, this feels right. I'd kill to know who else pitched ideas.

Agreed about the cautiously optimistic. Started The Medium last night, and it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. It has its jank, but SH1-3 were all about jank, especially 2. The atmosphere is good, the art design on the demons feels like a cross between Hellraiser cenobites and Pan’s Labyrinth.

Spirit world has a SH feel in some moments as well. Not far enough to see how the sorry falls apart (it has me interested early on), which was the main complaints in which SH2 is already established story wise.

And yeah, Maximilian Dood said the same thing. He mentioned this probably would not even be made of Sony wasn’t bankrolling a big part of it, along with the movie which was the same director for the first film Sony produced.

Konami even mentions that they have been approached constantly over the years by partners for Silent Hill. It’s just how the new Konami works.

You know why there are no platforms for the other games announced yet? Shopping them marketing partners or the ink isn’t dry, yet. ;)

No, it would not have (in current year). Sony owns the Death Stranding IP, that’s why it’s full on console exclusive.

And no, it wasn’t “the. Sony came in” … bet you anything Sony Pictures will be doing the film too with the same director that they did the first film with. This is all a package deal.

Bloober can make silly little horror games and I am excited to see their take on Silent Hill 2. What I do wish is that they would release Silent Hill 1-4 on Playstation Premium with Trophy support.

If I’m mad at anyone it probably is Microsoft for not adapting to Sonys aggressive use of timed exclusives. I think at this point they have no choice but to secure their own.

The trailer on the PS YouTube channel is at 60 fps so... 60 fps mode confirmed?
on PC sure. Dont expect 60 fps in UE5 titles on consoles that use Nanite and Lumens. Especially if they are using hardware accelerated Lumens instead of the software Lumens shown in the first UE5 demo on PS5.

Epic went out of their way to point out that we should only expect 1080p 30 fps on PS5 and XSX when games are using Nanite and hardware Lumens. 1440p 30 fps using software lumens. Its possible they might be able to use FSR2.1 along with software lumens to hit 60 fps at 1080p, but they might be using software lumens on consoles already.

Other posters above summarized it pretty well

Again, Konami has completely abandoned AAA game development with their IP, Sony went and got a packaged deal for this

I hope Bloober Team make a good job of the best Silent Hill. Layers of Fear is kind of good...., The Medium not so much. Well, let´s see. At least part of the original SH Team is in.

I think the problem is we are used to how James looks and this guy looks different but they kept the Hair.
Which doesn't suit the guy as he has a narrow face.
James is more rounded.

As for Bloober making it, I'll give them a chance.
There was parts of The Medium that reminded me Silent Hill but it was different kinda game.
With the foundation and guidance of the original team they might do good with this.

I’m not bothered too much by it as some. He has good emotional expressions shown in the trailer. Some of his winces and angst I think I felt in my mind and gut while playing back in 2002 on the original Xbox version, lol.

I think him being older makes more sense. Or even just looking older. Remember Angela was only 19 yet she looked like she was in her late 20s to early 30s given her life and situation. I can easily see them doing the same for James. Going through what he went through, you aren't going to look young and youthful.

Yeah. Wasnt Phil tweeting about how he was in Japan every few weeks? Like how do you get outbid by Sony here?

I dont know why Sony would give it to a third party studio like bloober. I can see it being a package deal with a movie, but wouldve expected a first party or a sony centric studio to make this game. Not bloober.

Either way. This does not look good for Phil who lost Forspoken, FF7, FF16, Rise of the Ronin, or for Jim Ryan who is trying to make a case that exclusives are bad.

Im just glad it looks next gen after seeing Dead Space, Gotham Knights, TLOU, and Need for Speed even though they are next gen only. This is what you can do with these GPUs if you simply choose not to target native 4k.

Not to mention removing the nostalgia goggles, games back then were also a side effect of the tech at the time. If they can make heavily detailed characters back then like today, they’d probably weather them more so as well.

Just look at the evolution between MGS4 and 5 facial details, etc.. Same prominent developer, yet taking advantage of the shiny new tech.

I remember watching the Making of that came with the PS2 version and how they did they mirror scene.
Devs think it's hard now?
imagine looking in a mirror and manually animating the stuff to look as good as it did back then.
