Rumor: Mid-Gen Upgrades for PS5 and Xbox Series X devkits have been received by most AAA studios, according to GTA Forum insider

October 2022.

Though PS5s are still limited and people still have kind a hard time getting one(and holidays are coming up, plus MW2 and GoW so it'll get tougher), you still can't walk into a store and just buy one two years later..

Let's go ahead and make a Pro system and spend production on that. Wat?

I wouldn't have expected a Pro version of either system until 2024 if they did one, if I'm honest.

What kind of power bump would it realistically have? I guess better capabilities for Raytracing and more native 4k/60?

Which... I'm not that tech savvy, but doesn't that on PC still require a pretty powerful rig for newer games?

What the fuck is the point if these idiots are still making cross gen bullshit? How about you push the current hardware first. Not a single real next gen game released yet and you want me to go buy a new toy?

That's kind of where I'm sitting. I don't feel there has been a single game released yet that really utilizes the full power of the regular PS5 or XSX--the former due to cross-gen, the latter due to Series S.

I feel the PS5 has far more power under that hood, same as Series X, but nothing has really pushed it.

all i want is a PS5 that isn't fucking HUGE and ugly! we've seen Sony cut down the motherboard size so we know they can go smaller and that the cooling system is ridiculously overkill. they could make the PS5 a lot smaller.

i still expect it still to have stupid curves all over it but hopefully it's not as silly looking.

I highly doubt it.

We had no news from any studio and companies will continue releasing crossgen games for at least another year more. A ton of people is still transitioning, many players couldn't get a new console and devs are still making their engines to take advantage of what the new gen can offer. They don't have enough chips for next gen consoles so would have even more issues if add a different console on top to make.

I think it's complete bullshit.

Ah come on already? I feel like I've played 1 game from this generation. I have absolutely no money left for such upgrades.

No significant amount of work has been done w/ the current iterations. If anything, the new consoles have just been a mid-gen upgrade of the last mid-gen upgrade....primarily res and fps upgrades.... If true, a waste of time and resources if you ask me.

But a las, i guess im not the market for these...i rocked my OG launch PS4 the entire gen.

I don’t need an upgrade for my Series X but since my budget for a PS5 is laying around since release, I wouldn’t mind a smaller, more mature looking PS5.5 for a reasonable higher price.

Makes zero sense so I'm hoping it's bs. Ps5 has been really underwhelming so far this gen. Since I started gaming again when ps3 came out this had been the most disappointing Sony console I've had.

The time for using covid as an excuse are over. Enough with cross gen. Horizon suffered and I'm guessing gow will too.

Sony wants to ship more current and revised ps5 in the next year then they have sold in its lifetime so far. I doubt there's a pro model when devs aren't even using a fraction of the machines power.

No reason you couldn't get both. PS4 slim was announced with PS4 Pro. It's too early for a midgen refresh though.

They truly envy Apple. I thought PS4 Pro only sold a quarter of all the PS4s sold from the time since it was released (this doesn’t count the PS4s sold Prior to its release). Don’t know if they are expecting different results this time.

What an absolutely sensless thing to do if true. The consoles are barely properly utilized yet, i despise mid-gen upgrades wholeheartedly.

Well the consoles are already showing their age. I want upgraded consoles with much more graphics horsepower, especially RT power.

Microsoft midgen refresh will be a VR variant.

I'll bet my account in it.

I bloody hope so im a console guy but Plague Tale R and Gotham Knights both being locked into 30fps modes doesn’t look good and I’d happily pay up to 1k for a 4k60 machine.

Don’t make me get a gaming PC please!

Wait...what? Plague Tale R will be locked 30fps?

PC Game Pass it is then.

I am expecting it but not sure if this rumour has any merit. I think the idea of a 6-8 year hardware refresh cycle is basically dead except for home appliances

Eh don't really care I didn't upgrade to PS4 PRO and most likely won't buy this either.

Might get a Xbox Series XXX down the line tho depends on the games MS releases in the next two years.

man this is stupid.
I don't want console gaming to become like a smartphone market to buy new console every so often....
These consoles don't need PRO upgrades.
And don't need more market segregation
Does it even matter anymore? All games nowadays are built on cross-platform game engines that scale all the way from smartphones to high end PCs.

The days of games being optimized to the nines for one unique piece of hardware are over.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
PS5 and XSX do have RT performance of the RTX 2060 class cards, which is pretty pathetic.

Hopefully mid gen refresh consoles will be closer to RTX 4080 in that regard in 2024?
No one's paying 2499 euro for a console bruh.
